As mentioned earlier in the week, the guys at Player Manager have set up a Scout League tournament with £400 in prizes up for grabs.

The League will start this weekend (gameweek 31) and will run until the end of the season. The league placings will be calculated using the best score from all your solo games each gameweek (friends leagues don’t count) and the best 4 of these determines your position on the leaderboard.

Those who wish to enter the Scout League for this tournament can do so by emailing “In” to this address scout@playermanager.com. Make sure you send it from the address you’ll be using at Player Manager. Scores will only count after you send the email.

Want more details? Here’s a full FAQ on the tournament from Player Manager

Q. How much will it cost me to enter?
A. There’s no entry fee for the league tournament but you will need to register at least 4 scores over 4 different gameweeks between now and the end of the season to qualify. That means entering at least 4 Solo Game teams costing 10 credits or £1 each.

Q. Can I enter multiple teams?
A. Absolutely – one of the unique benefits of Player Manager is that, once you’ve designed your master list of players, it’s dead easy to generate multiple teams. So, in the Scout League, you can register as many scores with as many teams as you like over the 8 remaining gameweeks but only the best score from 4 gameweeks will contribute towards your standing.

Q. What happens if 2, 3 or 4 of my highest scoring teams overall are from the same gameweek?
A. Only the best score from each gameweek is used to calculate your score

Q. What if I miss, or have a low-scoring, gameweek?
A. That doesn’t matter – you just have to enter teams in 4 out of the 8 remaining gameweeks in the season.

Q. How long will entry be open?
A. We’re only at gameweek 31 with 8 rounds to go. That means you have until the close of gameweek 35 – 11.30am on Saturday, April 30 – to enter. But entering later gives you less chances at posting a high gameweek score.

Q. Will there be a league table?
A. Yes. You’ll receive a link to the full table in an email from Player Manager once the scores are finalised early next week. We’ll also look to publish standings right here once a couple of gameweeks have passed.

Q. Do you include scores from private (friends) leagues?
A. No – its solo games (which are against random opponents) only.

Q. I’ve signed up. What now?
A. Log in and hit the “manage my player list” button to go to your Player Station. Start putting your player list together based on this week’s fixtures. You can use the “AUTO-FILL” button to get you started with 33 in-form players. Once you’ve listed your players you just need to assign ranks (order of preference in auction) and add a max bid.

Q. What sort of maximum bid should I set for players?
A. The “Avg” column shows you the average price each player went for last gameweek.

Q. Can only one person (i.e. whoever makes the highest bid) own a certain player within each 5, 10 or 15-person league? And can we fill the Player List with as many players as we like?

A. Yes and yes.

Q. What is the difference between these 5, 10 and 15-person leagues and the Scout league?
A. You play your solo games in leagues of 5, 10 or 15 people. The best score from any of these leagues in a gameweek is taken as your score for the Scout league.

Q. Is there a limit to the number of players we can have from any Premier League team?
A. No – its all down to your maximum bid (and remaining salary cap)

Q. Can I bid £100m for one player?
A. Almost. You can bid £90m on one player (there needs to be at least £1m reserved for every place in your team so that you get a squad of 11 players). Having said that, if the next highest bid for that player is £2m, you’ll get him for just £3m (just like eBay with automatic bidding increments of £1m).

Q. How do I pick my formation?
A. You don’t. You’re after the best players – not the best formation. Player Manager will automatically ensure that your team has a valid formation (3-5-2; 3-4-3; 4-5-1; 4-4-2; 4-3-3; 5-3-2; 5-4-1). For example, if you have already bought 3 strikers, you won’t be nominating or bidding for any more strikers.

Q. Can I see the maximum bids of other managers – either before or after the auction?
A. No – but you’ll get to see who every player was bought by, and at what price.

Q. How do I enter again?
A. Email scout@playermanager.com with the subject “In”. Be sure you are signed up to Player Manager using the same email address.

For those who want to know more, there’s a full FAQ about the game here.

        Im currently going Simpson, Adam.

But im 0.1 off the above which I should be able to afford when Tevez drops if he does tonight.

Prob means benching Adam in next 2 gameweeks

i noticed you're bringing tevez in earlier. i know you're saying you think he'll finish strongly with no european distractins but why not wait until after liverpool away then his blank?
my logic on johnson, birmingham defence has been dodgy lately (fosters' abundance of save points masks this a bit) but they've had hosted newcastle and west brom and gone to wigan in the last 4 and conceeded 7 in those 3 games. if coleman doesn't play johnson will come on anyway

Fresh , coverage of city, sunderland defensive problems, and huge ownership.
2 goals i see , He is a top player undoubtedly stopped recently by fitness issues. The 2 weeks will do a world og good

I reckon within 12 months there'll be no Prem players on twitter. One of them will say something as a joke which will be taken wrongly, or out one of their team-mates, and there'll be a massive storm.

I'm surprised clubs haven't started writing it into contracts that anything said publicly needs to be cleared.

Hadn't really thought about DGWs, more about just which players I wanted. I've been burned before getting players in just for the sake of DGWs, so I'm more concerned with generally better players.

In that this week it will give you a stronger bench, as Saha won't play, but if there's any injury problem or something to clear up then you'll wish you never did it.

    A. Is zigic back from injury?

    B. Should I start Torres instead of Zigic?

    C. Should I start Zigic instead of Larsson?

      A. He played 15 minutes for Serbia during the week and is back in the squad for tomorrow (no word yet on whether he will start).

      B. Tough one. I could see Zigic starting on the bench but so could Torres. I'd go with Torres.

      C. Larsson doesn't seem to have done anything for a while. I'd go with Zigic - even if he comes on for 20 minutes he could still nick one.

Going to use the first to do Saha > RVP

for the second should I do:

    VDV > Adam
    or
    Mereiles/Downing > 4.7m midfielder?

I did a quigi board when I was in year 11 - one of my mates took his mum's. My advice would be: go somewhere safe but scary to do it, and take it seriously even if you don't believe in stuff like that, and you may have an interesting experience.

Along none of the people you're doing it with are in any way dangerous or unstable, nothing can go wrong.

It'll be fun. As I say, just be aware of not taking anyone with you who'll lose it if strange things start happenning. I'm sure it's all perfectly explainable, but bizzarre incidents and bizzare behaviour gravitate to those things.

    Just thinking aloud here...

But I'm considering that there may be a tactical advantage in joining after GW1. While it's too early to pinpoint trends, it would basically give you an extra wildcard at the expense of your GW1 haul.

There was a friend in my mini-league who joined after gameweek 1 and did really well out of it. The best thing about it, as a tactic, is that you don;t have to decide to do it before the season starts. You can sign up for gameweek 1 and try your best, and if you get a lame score that you would happily exchange for a wildcard, then you can just start a new team and do the tactic you suggest.

      no advantage whatsoever.

as someone could just make 15 transfers and it would be the same as someone missing the first gw if the average score was 60 points.

Therefore having an extra wildcard would be no advantage

Or, for example, if gameweek 1 turned out to be a minger of a week where NO-ONE got more than about 35, and a bunch of previously unpredictable players were suddenly looking like hot prospects....

Extremely unlikely set of circumstances, but I'll probably take a couple of seconds in gameweek 2 of next year to consider whether there's anything in it.

it will also leave u 60-80 points behind and there will not be much difference between the teams even after gw1 altho it can help later in the season...

Tosey makes the best point here - just don't be afraid of a few biggish hits over the first few weeks to get on the form players.
They won't all reveal themselves in the first week anyway.

Yeah, good feedback guys, especially Jonty.

I was considering my slow start after a lot of rivals wildcarded early, and without taking hits it took me a while to ship out certain players *coughbosellicough*.

I think part of it was getting caught up in hype, a few players like Milner and Villa defenders underperforming.

and RBJ, no offense taken, I didn't claim it was a great idea, it was just something that popped into my head.

Why not start a team in GW1 as normal, and see how you do that GW. If you have a bad start, join with a new team from a different email address in GW2, like you suggest.

if the fixtures were horrible for the big guns in gw1 then it could work. don't think anyone would have the balls (and patience) to try it though

Yeah, if you did really badly then it would be worth scrapping the whole team and starting afresh as Jonty and 1966 suggest.

agree with them. unless the fixtures for gw1 were chelsea v man utd, arsenal v liverpool and man city v tottenham then i don't think it's worth considering. the reason being in a gw like that you'd predict it to be a low scoring one

Don't know for sure, Wenger press conference just before 6pm.
Apparantly Mancini says all 3 strikers are available.

I can see him doing well this week, but then look at his fixtures after that. (liv, blank, bla) After that I will bring him in for the West Ham (H) game then the double.

    R.Johnson, Coleman, Baird (2:Huth,3:Walker)
    Nani, VdV, Nasri, Lampard, Adam
    Gyan, RvP(c) (1:Odemwingie)

So... the bench players seem sensible?
(I am taking 4 point hit for Tevez->Gyan and A.Young->Lampard
    and Baird?->Luiz next GW)
