Wayne Rooney is facing a two-match ban having been charged with β€œthe use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language” by the FA.

The United striker was caught using β€œcolourful” terms following his penalty conversion which gave his side a 3-2 lead at Upton Park on Saturday. Rooney later submitted an apology for the incident but it became clear early on that the FA were to investigate the matter further.

The FA issued their verdict at 5pm today, with a two-match ban for Rooney now looming. He would miss Saturday’s gameweek 32 fixture with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Man City on April 16 – a massive blow to United’s ambitions this season.

This is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers of course – Rooney put himself to the forefront of our plans with Saturday’s hat-trick and almost 20,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have already made the move for the 12.0 capture of the striker.

United and Rooney have until 6pm on Wednesday to deny the FA’s charge. If it’s accepted then the suspension will come into effect. Given the evidence captured by Sky’s cameras and Rooney’s apology, it’s going to be difficult for United to find a case to contest the matter; their official site has confirmed the charge but no comment from the club has been made as yet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This Rooney news made me to scout for a Che striker as a part of my squad. 3 games compared to one is no brainier IMO. So the question is:

    Drogba or
    Torres?
    And why?

Who is more likely to start every game? I think Torres but Drogs had good game against Stoke so maybe Anceloti could play both of them. But I think due to CL Torres was benched, otherwise he is in first squad by default. Opinion?

For solo piano, get Koln Concert by Keith Jarrett. For piano trio, get Serenity by Bobo Stenson. If you can ever get your head around classical music, solo piano, get Goldberg Variations by Bach played by Andras Schiff on ECM. Legalised drugs.

I know it's been discussed - I have to still go back and get angry at all the ABU pontificating and strutting - but this likely 2-game ban is absolute and unvarnished bollocks.

Every game - every one - you'll see virtually every player on the pitch mouth the 'F' word.

As I've said before, it's as if the media went into the showers afterwards and then banned all the nude players there for disrepute.

Laugh all you want at the States - but when we get all Puritanical, we fine the television station that transmitted the "vulgarity" ... no offense to The English, but this is a simple joke which makes your league league look as simple as the MLS looks technically poor.

The ABUs will be happy ... mongs. What a joke. I suppose you will think a competitive sanction for a non-competitive 'offense' is fair.

    I think it's sub-MLS.

k8ing eric, saying f.uck you to the camera directly, is very different to calling an oppisiotion player a f.ucker, or telling the ref to f.uck off.

this is how ABU's get all their ammunition, the fact you cant see the difference here.

and he got the ban cos of the elbow AND this, stupid stupid attitude that he can do what he wants.

its really simple, get over it, and stop putting yourself in such an easy place for people to take the piss out of you.

So if the telly stations fine-tuned their microphones such that they could/would broadcast every word uttered by players on the field, you support this type of ban for every saucy-mouthed player?

And what about those 'precious little vulnerable children' in the stands each week, every week, for - what? - the last 100 years?

Guess they don't hear the naughty bits being shouted?

You'll notice I am a.)a United fan, so obviously partial; b.)not defending nor condoning the behavior, per se; and c.)willing to grant such adult and professional latitude to even the most despicable of the PL, i.e. Lamps, Fabby, and the Stevie G's πŸ˜‰

no it isnt, cos you cant make the distinction. People used to go to gladiator arenas for entertainment too. They used to know theyd be about to witness bloodshed and horrific violence, and theyd bring snacks too. Peole watch football knowing what to expect too. But fuk me i can guarantee you if Russell crowe had walked into the crowd and stabbed a senator after ripping four heads off, that'd be the end of him.

No, it's about intention - see below.

If you want my opinion read the last page but i've said i think the apology should have sufficed and that it's been blown out of proprtion.

I also said i can't understand why people keep talking about children and role models because i don't see that as being the issue at hand. What he did was completely innapropriate, and though it doesn't bother me at all i can see why it was seen as offensive, and neither of those change just because children may or may not have been watching, or that some may look up to him.

There's not that much of a distinction IMO. Had he done the same but not looked at the camera, would this be acceptable?

Tbh, I think telling the ref to F off (which Rooney is guilty of) is worse than what he's actually being punished for.

His outburst was because he'd just gotten a hattrick, and he celebrated the wrong way.

            1) He didn't run up to the camera, the camera went to him.

            2) He didn't say "f*** you", he said "f***ing what? what? f***ing hell!"

I don't know about you, but if I'd just done what he'd done I'd have swore. I think I did swear when he scored tbh. Can't remember, it's the heat of the moment.

What he did was wrong, but there's no way in hell that's worth a 2 match ban. Ludicrous decision.

no - he just doesn't say that. regardless, the ref didn't see/hear it, so they can take action after. He would have been sent off if he'd seen/heard it. He lost his head, which unfortunately means he'll get punished.

Really and how are you certain of this. I could say its more to do with him being a man with no sense of morals and an excellent talent of not knowing when he puts his mouth in it.

Besides what you or I think is irrelevant. He did what he did. He needs to be held accountable.

Got to give him benefit of the doubt. There's few people alive that can tell you the emotions running through your system when you do something like that. Added to the season he's had and no-one else can really say.

            He swore. BIG DEAL.

he swore into the camera, unfortunately swearing in front of millions of people worldwide in the process. yes he didn't exactly run across the length of the pitch seeking out the camera but when it was put on him he had the chance to ignore it, but instead he chose to swear into it. swearing isn't that bad, i'd have given him a fine personally, not a ban but he did it in front of millions when he didn't have to

If you read you may have seen - "besides what you or i think is irrelevant" I never said i could be certain. I took umbrage at the idea you could be certain "His outburst was because he’d just gotten a hattrick, and he celebrated the wrong way.”"

Oh and the season he had. Lets just see how silly that point you made is.

Say a man has had a really terrible year , lost his job, wife left him, friends hate him etc etc ....is whatever act of violence he deems is fair and worth it cos of his sh*t year therefore given some form of liency ? No

Same way no matter what "season he's had" doesnt allow for him to act like a thug into front of a camera or doesnt somehow justify it. Its how the world works. You are responsible for your actions. Period.

I really dont think you should engage in such debates when you make such silly blind sighted views.

But way to go addressing the point and not ignoring it and then just as if following the Republican mantra (Thats another comparison - no im not saying your a Republic *hopes he understands*) of throwing enough sh*t in personal slurs that the original point is long gone and people will just not care.

I agree with the second point, and like i said i think the apology should have been the end of it.

BUT i do think there is a massive distinction, different things are appropriate for different audiences - i.e. what is okay among close friends might not be okay in public etc.

If i swore at work and no customers were around nobody would have a problem, if i started swearing in front of customers then they would - and i totally see why there is.

At the end of the day he is a professional and what he did was completely and utterly unprofessional - it's been blown out of all proportion and i agree a ban is ridiculous, i think a fine would have been too much, the apology should have been the end of it - but it definitely was completely inappropriate and unprofessional, i don't see how that much can be denied.

So you're saying what Rooney did was totally unprovoked?

How about a dozen customers come in and start screaming and shouting at you, calling you every name under the sun? How do you react then? Because that's more of a fair comparison.

If i got his wages i'd lap it up.

And i do get customers that do that, i've never ever sworn at them. If i was really, really pushed i'd tell them politely that i wasn't prepared to serve them.

But this point is flawed on so many levels i don't even know where to start - that's without mentioning the fact it's completely missed the point i was making.

He swore indiscriminantly at everyone - not those who may or may not have "deserved it", that's the equivalent of me telling every customer to f**k off, not just the ones shouting at me, even new customers i've never dealt with before - they walk in and i tell them to f**k off based on the angry customer i had last week - that would be a fair comparison.

What is considered 'professional' differs by profession, yeah? What is standard, or accepted, practice within an industry helps to define what is 'professional behavior', right?

Is swearing outlawed in footy? Is is penalized at any point during the game, providing you don't cross some hideous line considered the hobbies of the ref's mum?

So cursing is commonplace on the field?

            Huh.

So, all you 'He was a jerk and rude and damaged me wee lad'-ers, if a player was on-camera and cursed out the camera when they were just walking down the street some day, they should get a game sanction?

Really? Puh-leeze. I might be a United supporter, but a 2-game ban is redonkulously scandalous. And supporting that, even against a tw@t like Roon, makes you ABU-blinkered.

He apologised and i think that should have been the end of it - i've repeated this so many times. All i'm saying is that i think there is a distinction between swearing on the pitch, and running up to a camera and swearing directly into it.

Jeez this is hard work. Seriously though, find me anywhere where i've even come close to supporting a ban? You can't, so pipe down.

I suppose you would blame a gun shot victim of getting in the way of the bullets too?

Rooney ran to the camera and sweared, He delibrately sought the camera out. Thats the difference

I have no problem when a player is swearing and is caught by a camera un aware. Its normal practice and more the media who seek it.

Rooney went after the camera so he could be heard swearing. He made that choice himself.

If some fool ran onto a gun range whilst there were people shooting: yes.

These players are bred and trained for Cro-Magnon power and aggressiveness. They curse - every freaking week - at the top of their lungs while thousands are in attendance.

If the PL has a problem with grown men using naughty words, make it a rule not to be spoken at any time on the field. But this 'OK if no-one hears, 2 game ban if someone does" is asinine. My primary school team penalized naughty words - does FIFA?

Rooney ran to the camera amidst the joy and emotion of the moment. Do you really think he intended to do what he did? Really?

The choice is the telly broadcasting a game live wherein serious injury, nudity, violence, profanity, all sorts of things could occur ... with no delay. They should shoulder some of this burden.

You want to fine players for this? Whatever. But affect the competitive balance of the league, affect a team's chances of staying up, that sort of thing, for a non-game related offense? Utter tosh.

@ DBR: it's not a conspiracy ... you'd have to be a dope not to know/understand the emotionality of the moment.

I've said Roon's a schmuck for cursing, but is cursing a game offense? Well? So the sanction for this should be a competitive penalty?

And if/when Barton or Terry or some other bloke gets picked up by a parabolic mike while shouting/celebrating to the crowd, they should be banned?

Really - different can of worms. First - he was sanctioned by the ref (free kick) during that game. Was he a lucky boy? Yup. But if he was red-carded and banned for three games, it would have been a game infraction, game sanction.

Should Terry be banned for adultery or Leon Best for showing off his abs at nightclubs?

But this comment of yours shows the inability of ABUs to separate the player/club from the point/essence of the debate.

I don't even know what an ABU is - but i've already said (several times) i don't think he should have been banned, or fined.

He wasn't justly punished for that elbow, the acknowledgement of it is irrelevant in that respect when you're talking about the integrity of the competition like you did in the above post.

What someone does in their own free time is their business - what Rooney does when he is playing in a FA premier league match wearing the Man United kit is very much a different kettle of fish.

    My team for nxt gw

    Robinson
    Coleman, r Johnson, luiz
    Nani, nasri, vdv, Adam
    Rvp, tevez , welbeck

    Subs silva, foley, Kelly. Gordon.

I have already done my freebie to bring in welbeck
Is it worth an 8 point hit to do silva and vdv out for lamps and ohara?

Chasing my mini rival by 31 points. I'm in second position. Money at stake. He doesn't have lamps. Suggestions? Or should I keep my team the way it is and take no hits??

31 points isn't that much with 7 GWs left, especially with the doubles in there.

It's a really tough decision, I probably wouldn't do it cos of the 8 point hit, but Lamps v Wigan does sound tasty...

Tricky one. If you take the hit, you're definitely 8 points down on him before you even start the GW. Lampard might get a big haul, he might not.

        GW 32: Kolorov & Rooney > Drogba & Luiz

        GW 33: Dempsey & Huth > Nasri & Walker

Leaves me with 0.2m to spare so timing will be key.
And should have 5 doublers, 2 Arsenal, 2 Chelsea and 1 Brum.

king eric, it isnt the same thing, its bizarre you cant make the distinction. People used to go to gladiator arenas for entertainment too. They used to know theyd be about to witness bloodshed and horrific violence, and theyd bring snacks too. Peole watch football knowing what to expect too. But fuk me i can guarantee you if Russell crowe had walked into the crowd and stabbed a senator after ripping four heads off, that’d be the end of him.

This is all im gona say on it, if you cant understand this then i fell soory for you.

I've heard it's full of t*ssers people like the Priest brothers. πŸ™‚

(Posted as reply above by mistake)

How does this look? (Cant afford Lampard)

    Thoughts??

Have another one that would've worked a few months ago - Man City are expected to win the race to sign Wayne Rooney after offering him 230 Grans a week
