Having looked seemingly unstoppable in the opening quarter of the season, Chelsea and their Fantasy assets fell away. As discussed in today’s “Frisking the Fixtures” however, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are about to embark on a run of opponents that provide a platform for a run of results and performances that has their key players ascending to the very top of our Watchlists.

Certainly that is the case with today’s refresh of our own player rankings. Chelsea dominate in three of four positions in our Watchlist – as can be seen in your right-hand sidebars.

It starts in goal, where Petr Cech has climbed back to the pinnacle of our rankings, overtaking the potential offered by Ben Foster, despite the Birmingham keeper’s outstanding display against Bolton. Birmingham may have a double fixture in gameweek 33, but Chelsea’s prospects look stronger. Birmingham are without a shut-out in five and have other prime assets in the back four to plunder (Roger Johnson), while Cech is a relatively cheap and secure route to Chelsea’s potential defensive returns.

Blackburn’s Paul Robinson is the notable addition to our rankings. The Rovers keeper climbs back into the reckoning with three home fixtures in four and off the back of Blackburn’s fine display at the Emirates.

There’s been very little movement at the top of the defender rankings. Chelsea’s David Luiz is still the top target – despite a less than convincing performance at Stoke. European ineligibility continues to help his cause amongst Ancelotti’s rotating back four. Behind the Brazilian we have Everton’s assist machine Leighton Baines holding second spot, with Villa’s Kyle Walker keeping third with his forthcoming run of opponents.

Like team-mate Robinson, Rovers skipper Chris Samba benefits from his display against Arsenal and the run of Ewood Park encounters that offer opportunity for boost in his points tally. Young Bonus magnet Phil Jones is another consideration – he made his return to the starting XI at the Emirates in a holding midfield role – more on him later this week.

The midfielder rankings have a new top two with Alex Ferguson’s decision to rest Nani helping to topple him from the apex. Frank Lampard and Charlie Adam are currently “most wanted” by Fantasy Managers – both have a very strong run of fixtures and the influence and set-piece roles within their respective teams to capitalise. Nani, who should make a return against Fulham in gameweek 32, has to settle for third spot.

There’s little to choose between those amongst the chasing pack – they’re all potentially devastating Fantasy targets, but all have a drawback to consider right now. Cesc Fabregas replaces the out-of-form Samir Nasri as our top ranked Arsenal midfielder, but his match fitness is still in question having been reduced to a bench role against Rovers on Saturday.

Rafael Van der Vaart, like Nasri, has been a major disappointment of late. Much has been made of his pitch time and his relationship with Harry Redknapp but, behind this smokescreen, the statistics show that the Dutchman has scored just a single goal in 6 league starts and that came from the spot against Bolton. His Fantasy stock needs a revival against Stoke this weekend – whether it gets it depends on whether Van der Vaart comes through tonight’s Madrid tie and avoids weekend rotation.

Lower down the list, Theo Walcott is perhaps the weapon of choice for those looking for a potentially powerful differential. The speedster struggled to make an impression against Blackburn, but clearly carries a major goal threat that could come to fruition over the Gunners’ run of fixture that includes the gameweek 33 double.

Robin Van Persie holds to our top spot amongst the strikers – thanks in the main to Wayne Rooney’s possible suspension that has the United man drop out of our rankings. Rooney’s absence boosts the stock of Javier Hernandez but the Mexican is still trailing both Darren Bent of Villa and the in-form Luis Suarez who will surely be a key figure over Liverpool’s tough run of opponents to come.

Further down the rankings you’ll find a whole array of quality available for a budget price. The likes of Daniel Sturridge, Junior Hoilett and Danny Welbeck all offer exceptional value over the coming gameweeks; if you’re looking to plough money into your midfield – these three look ready-made solutions to free up funds in attack.

You can add Sylvan Ebanks-Blake into that bracket too, along with Blackpool’s DJ Campbell who will return for an unusually shot-shy Blackpool, just in time for four straight home matches. Simmering below them, Bobby Zamora’s brace on Sunday has him waiting for a climb up the rankings once his fixtures improve with Fulham’s gameweek 34 double.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I know most people have gone to bed and there's probably no point even asking but.......any thoughts on
Berba, Meireles and Kelly out for
    Anelka, Adam and Luiz?

at the moment it seems like Anelka is just as likely to start as Berba is

anelka is essentially a rotation risk playing in midfield most of the time, don't see the appeal at all.

Well, if they have the same likelihood to start, surely you just want to keep the transfer? I see Berba starting especially if Roon is out, with Anelka you never know.

Adam and Luiz sound very good.

I can only do the Adam and Luiz moves if I downgrade Berba though. I see Berba as a rotation risk (looking past Rooney's ban) so should I downgrade further and go for Gyan/Welbeck/Zamora who are more likely to start......although might only return 2 points? If I'm downgrading that much should I be looking to Lampard instead of Adam?

I took a look at your team. You can definitely downgrade berba because you have two other good forwards. You can go very cheap (and upgrade Ferguson) or mid-price and upgrade Meireles to Lamps. If you have the funds i.e.

exactly, if he doesn't play I've got a cheapie midfielder in Ferguson who tends to be 1st choice in Brum team to come off the bench. I just think it's risky not to have Chelsea coverage with their fixtures

Quite torn which one to get next week for the dgw. Terry seems a banker for around 8 points imo, ramires has been playing awesome but not sure he has many goals/assists in him, walcott's fpl gold but the fixtures suck.

    My "Jinswick" stylee tranny plan.

    Earmarked 5 "essentials" :

Adam, Mignolet, Luiz, Lampard and, er, Bent.

Now: how can I get these in over the coming 2-3 gwks and in what order?

    Thought process:

32 Use 2 freebies for Lamps and Bent (replacing Roonpigster and Lennon)

33 Mignolet and Luiz in (replacing Sczczcny and Kolarov)

    34 Adam in for Nolan.

    34 Adam in.

            Drogs no; Lamps yes.

I just think Drogs is too risky with rotation and hardly a points magnet at present.

Lamps is a safer option-albeit a costly one-and will start. Have a look at the new updated watchlist for other options.

35 no? Lamps is one hit. You're oppo is probably doing something similar. Thing with transfers is to buy in players that will give you a good fixture run. Lamps fulfills this criteria.

                    I know it's quite chess-like at times isn't it?!

To get Lamps in, an 8 pointer is needed. However, with just looking at your team, I'd have kept Zigic (he has a dgw coming up) and done:

                    VDV/Silva out for Lamps/O Hara

Easy to say now I guess.

Nasri is no longer a certain starter with Walcott back and Arshavin finding some form, Nasri hasn't scored well recently and usually doesn't when Fab plays.

Other than that its a solid side.

You have been lucky in the last 4 gameweeks. Under the new rules you would have gone out twice. That 125 will shrink quite abit. 🙂

IMO my team looked good for the past gameweeks. However at the end, the result were always different from expected. LOL. Anyway, luck plays a role in fantasy football.

What 3 trades would you do with this team for a hit.

    Foster Begovic
    Kolarov Coleman Huth Carr Walker
    Fabregas Nani Nasri VDV Barton
    Rooney RVP Odemwingie.

    0 in bank. 🙁

I assume most would get a player in each position apart from GK or some may suggest 2 mids & a new striker.

    Thanks in advance.

3 Arsenal players are a bit much for me. I would say Kolarov and Nasri out. No idea on your third trade. I'm still thinking whether to keep Rooney a not.

I might keep them for Blackpool. They will want a cricket score after that 0-0. Thinking Rooney out if I want to turn a mid into Lampard without giving them pies.

Mignolet a nailed on starter? the ideal replacement for gordon for me this week if he is.. else i could do baines to luiz and gordon to cech for free.. or get either gomes or foster for gordon.. which option? seems a waster gettin foster now when i already have johnson.. and baines has bad fixtures after 2 weeks(plus already have coleman)..

I wouldnt say nailed on starter. Gordons the better keeper more experienced. If he wasnt nearing fitness he wouldnt be on the bench. I dont think mingolet will play every game for sland till the end of the season, and for that reason i'm not touching him.

If he was out long term I dont think he'd be on the bench for Sunderland & Scotland two different medical teams assessing him. Admittedly Mingolet scored more points but that doesnt make him a better keeper. I dont know who each keeper played or if gordon had the tougher fixtures. dont get me wrong mingolets good but I think Gordons one of the best in Britain and with bruce payin 12m for him, i cant see him being a bench warmer.

Morning all, i'm just wondering what to do this week.

Was going to ship Berbs but Rooney being suspended mean i won't do tht just yet.

Coleman out to Luiz i'm thinking and possibly bringing in Mignolet, apart from that maybe freshen things up in the middle??

For 33 i'll lose Berba for a cheaper option to fund Lamps..

Yeah because of th eSPL back log of fixtures we need to play all remaining games before the split. St Johnstone v Rangers was scheduled to televised by ESPN so to honour the contract the rearranged fixture had to be on ESPN. Now with UEFA regulations in place no top flight game from any country in Europe can be televised at the same time as the Champions League. With no other free dates we had to play last night at 6. Not very supporter friendly but if it wasnt for our Championsleague money we'd never survive so cant complain.

It'l be really tight but I think we can do it if your placing the bet do it today before Celtic v Hibs tonight. Celtic have something ridiculous like 4 games in 9 days from saturday onwards but they hve the bigger squad. Rangers have the better player but not enough of them, I can see it going to the last day of the season again. I have never wanted to the league so much as I do this year. I might follow you with the bet actually you getting that on PP?

      Foster/Begovic,
      Coleman/Vidic/Luiz/RJ/Bardsley,
      Nani/Nasri/VdV/Adam/Brunt,
      Tevez/RVP/Rooney.

Two weekly transfers.Thinking of doing Rooney->Gyan/Carroll,Nasri->Lampard.Or is it a bit short-sighted to sell Nasri when he himself has a double coming up,and to sell Rooney when he'll only be missing one game?I could sell tevez instead for Bent and do Nasri->Lampard.What do you guys think?

i have Al-Habsi in goal and have stockdale as my second keeper, should i transfer stockdale out of the team for a better keeper as wigan might get a beating this weekend?

im chasing a rival but 19 points so was thinking of drafting out rooney (if ban confirmed) and Nolan to bring in Lamps and Ameobi,

You should ideally have two starting goalkeepers (e.g. Stockdale -> Mignolet), but if you have other transfers planned I wouldn't take a 4 point hit for it now. You might end up with a couple of points from saves this GW, and the next 5 matches are a walk in the park for Wigan, i.e. after this weekend you don't have a pressing need for a good second GK.
