There’s just one Premier League fixture this fine Tuesday night, as Manchester United look to strengthen their grip on the title with a visit up to St. James Park and Newcastle United. The Dugout Discussion chatroom has been opened, and offers you a place for your musings as the action unfolds.

As is unfortunately the norm nowadays, there have been one or two differing team sheets for tonight’s game being passed about on Twitter, but this is how they line-up…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Barton, Guthrie, Tiote, Gutierrez, Lovenkrands, Ameobi

Man United XI: Van der Sar, O’Shea, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Hernandez, Rooney

The home side are as predicted meaning that Tim Krul replaces the injured Steve Harper. Elsewhere, Cheik Tiote comes straight back into the Toon midfield, with banned Kevin Nolan missing out.

As for the visitors, Chris Smalling replacing Rio Ferdinand doesn’t come as a shock given the latter’s recent injury record. Neither is it a surprising that Luis Nani starts at the expense of Antonio Valencia. One piece of team news that does raise an eyebrow is the total omission of Dimitar Berbatov to the United squad, with no late injury news to report of as yet (EDIT: Sir Alex Ferguson says Berbatov “wasn’t feeling great” earlier today and is the reason why he misses out).

Oh, and Wayne Rooney (swear-jar in hand) takes his place alongside Javier Hernandez up front for the Reds.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

Ouch, a very disappointing finish to that game, United looked way too casual. Giggs was very very poor, had 3 chances he should of converted, or at least got on target, and Valencia failed to make any kind of impact, butI expected nothing less with the superb Jose Enrique marking him.

Rooney didn't seem to be firing tonight, some nice passing at times, but in general a bit clueless. Attila, up to 9th, nice.

he was, impressive enough in all fairness.

Hernandez made a meal of it, but when Simpson put out the foot, where there is contact, you cant argue that it is a penalty. By the same token, Lovenkrands should of gotten a penalty swell.

Though to be fair Utd and Arsenal could use him. Ashley shrewdly got him tied to a 6 year deal part way through the season to up his potential fee. Hope he doesn't go though!

Yeah he sat a bit too deep (as did Barton) in the second half but he was causing all manner of trouble in the first. Works so well with Enrique, I really like him. A lot of Toon fans were disgruntled with him and his lack of end product a few months ago but I think he's a great outlet.

Enrique has been excellent since the turn of the year. Watched him at Villa last week and he links with Jonas very well. Was actually quiet tonight but Nani was kept under wraps. Can see attacking points against Blackpool and if Adam is out Blackpool are surely due a blank at home.

BAE gets a raw deal, when he's good he's very solid but when he's bad he looks horrendous.

Enrique definitely a better full back.

I not a fan of BAE, he loses concentration and is a little bit lazy getting caught out whilst the rest of his back four tries to play a line.
Enrique is excellent, he kept Nani fairly quiet tonight.

Enrique's so under rated. I've been harping on to my mates all year about how good he is, hope they finally realise after he kept Nani quiet tonight.

BAE is pretty average, but I think he's a very un-intelligent footballer. He always runs ahead of Bale bringing another player with him, clogging Bale's space and although it's good to see a full back getting forward, he should just stay behind and support Bale. The only reason jamseip likes him I think is because of what he said about being a footballer last year, that he turns up does his work gets paid but that's it, it's not his life or anything.

That's because generally speaking United and the bigger clubs are the sole topic of conversation on these boards. There are a lot of United fans.

By the way, Boltons performance at Wembley was the worst Ive seen in about 5 years (including Megsons time in charge).

I basically think the players bottled it and it wasn't Coyles finest performance in terms of his tactics. Elmander in centre mid was always going to fail. Mark Davies should have started the game instead of Klasnic.

Fair play to Stoke though, they were good.

Carrick turns like a cruise ship, I agree, when he gets the ball, I almost have my head in my hands waiting for him to give the ball away, he has done it two times this season that have cost us goals as a direct result, in the Champions League earlier on the season and the FA Cup at the weekend.

Good result for Man City. Arsenal will go all out tomorrow against Tottenham to take advantage. Yeah, I know it's Tottenham, they should go all out anyway, but knowing the title is still on could give a little extra push.

Totally agree. His frogslegs act makes it look like a dive. And for the newcastle pen if you slowmo the angle from the corner flag you can see the ref's actually checking on the guy on the floor and looks up just after the contact

Exactly. I don't understand all these players wavering their arms in the air and rolling all over the place when there is contact. Surely if you just fall naturally like you would there is a better chance of getting the penalty. Fking frustrating to watch.

couldn't have said it better. allardyce was spot on in the commentary, both hernandez and lovenkrands made too much of it. even stephen hawking would have landed on his feet after leap-frogging simpson's leg. it's a dive because hernandez landed on his belly

Has no one had a foot stepped on, moved the foot, only to have it too far beneath and behind, throwing off the balance?

It was plainly, to me, not a dive. I assure you, Hernandez is Mexican, if he wanted to dive it would have been epic ...

      The foot-stomp wasn't a penalty shout - nothing like Tiote's arm - but neither was it a dive/yellow.

He certainly made the most of it. But to be honest we could have had a penny too if that was given, so lets just leave it as a draw. Both Lovelypants and Hernandez flounced about instead of falling over like rational beings.

Agreed. As I originally sai:, bad reffing - that most likely changed nothing. United looked anemic and off-rhythm; Toon were playing well, pressing, and closing down space.

Bet he's had words with SAF or is sulking. Sure fire way to stop a striker keeping his run of goalscoring going is to "rest" him. Berbatov looks like the kind of player that likes to be told he's special and he's getting the opposite treatment. Will be on his way in the Summer.

That was only the 2nd league game United have failed to score in all season. Not bad.

That would be superb as far as I am concerned - would secure JE's place as a BP darling as he didn't do much at all tonight, Tiote much better.

Doesn't always work on logic though. Tiote probably deserves them. Enrique did an excellent job of keeping Nani then Valencia quiet which is tough enough to do
