Although many bemoan the often graceless and unstylish methods of Tony Pulis’ Stoke City, there is no arguing that they’re extremely difficult to play against. In their third year as a Premier League stalwart, the club’s rise reached a whole new level last Sunday as they hammered a helpless Bolton 5-0 to reach their first ever FA Cup final.

Jonathan Walters, who was playing at League Two side Chester City a little more than three years ago, grabbed two of the goals for The Potters. Since his lower league days he has grafted and crafted his way to the top and now looks to have held on to a starting attacking role in Stoke’s starting lineup, as well as firmly propelling himself into Fantasy Premier League Managers’ thoughts as the season draws to a close.

Walters recently spoke about his remarkable achievements in a career where he’s become known as a bit of a journeyman:

“You’ve always got to believe in where you want to be. You’ve got to work hard and it pays off in the end. It’s been a step up for me coming up from the Championship, but I also know I’ve got a lot of hard work to do to stay in the side. But there’s also a lot of hard work gone into that from everyone in the weeks leading up and it paid off.”

With form and confidence firmly on his side, Walters could be a shoe-in for points over the next two Gameweeks as Stoke face an attractive double against Midlands opposition and then take a trip to Blackpool.

Listed as a midfielder on the FPL game, Walters is currently supporting Kenwyne Jones in an impressive forward pairing and this out of position factor gives him added FPL zeal. It’s not just in the FA Cup where Walters is impressing, he has scored 2 and assisted 2 in his last 3 Premier League games as well as fetching 5 Bonus Points. If there was ever a time to include the unfashionable forward in your FPL team, it would be now.

With a valuation of just 5.5, Walters offers few stumbling blocks – only the consideration of team-mate Matt Etherington for the double gameweek provides a distraction. Two Stoke signings may well be overkill so a decision is likely to be required here. While Etherington’s has a strong influence on Stoke’s overall play and offers set-piece and spot-kick involvement, Walters has outstanding form and comes in cheaper than the former Spurs man. Many Fantasy Managers are likely to go into the gameweek with one of the two Potters midfield options – Walters is likely to be the choice of those looking a potentially more explosive differential.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    Okay, re-up time.

Everyone seems to have taken issue with Bale and Parker getting the PFA and FWA player of the year awards, so I thought I’d do a little FFS poll. There’s no shortlist, you can vote for whoever you please, provided they’ve stepped onto a Premier League pitch this year. I’ll try and re-up this every so often so everyone gets a vote, so there’s no rush to do it now if you can’t make up your mind.

So far the voting is as follows:

    Charlie Adam – 6
    Nani – 4
    Tevez – 4
    Vidic – 3
    Barton – 1
    Van der Vaart – 1
    Scholes – 1
    Kompany - 1
    Boselli - 1 (yeah, I know)

So, who do you think has been player of the year?

i guess it depends what the criteria is. if its whos been most influential to their team then youd look at parker/adam, if its whos going to lead their team to trophies itd be vidic

im going solely on who has performed the best imo and for me thats komapny

Parker was the correct choice without a shadow of doubt.
He has performed consistently all season and not in waves as others have.
The cherry on the cake was when he played against Spurs just after his dad died and then for England a week later.
He is IMVHO completely deserving of the award.

    Hello lads,

Is Baird assured of starts at Fulham? I am looking for a Fulham defender and Hangeland its too much cash for me. Plus Baird takes some set pieces too.

    Cheers,

P.S. If anybody knows to name the Fulham regular back line it will be very helpful

I'm going for RVP. Both he, and Arsenal have been very good on the road this season.

Sturridge because of the number of chances he had vs West Ham suggests he's on very good form while Zamora is still not 100% from injury, is unlikely to play 180 and two of his three goals came against Blackpool. Plus sturridge has a better run in.

Walters because he's the form player in one of the form teams, the last two teams outside the top 5 they have played they have hit 4 and 5 goals so he is very likely to be in the goals again with the service he's getting and the goals they are scoring with two relatively easy fixtures. Dempsey meanwhile is looking likely to be played on the wing with zamora back so will have lower point returns that OOP Walters.
