Just four gameweeks to go now and the race is really heating up at the top of the Fantasy Football Scout league. Our top five rundown sees two new entries, with Chris Prentice and Sean og Connolly dropping out this week. With two of our top five inside the overall Fantasy Premier League (FPL) top ten, and the lowest-ranked in 18th place overall, it’s clearly no easy task to maintain this pace. Here’s the update on this week’s action:

Chris McGurn

Morons FC

Fantasy Football Scout Ranking #1 Overall FPL Ranking #2

Last Week’s Score 63pts
Chris opted for two double gameweek players, Asmir Begovic and Jamie O’Hara, giving the Wolves man the captain’s armband, a move which brought just 8 points. His Lampard, Terry, Luiz Chelsea trio combined for a 24 point haul at home to West Ham and ever-reliant Robin Van Persie grabbed 7 points at Bolton. Villa pair Ashley Young and Kyle Walker bagged 7 points between them.

Gameweek 35 Preview
Having made no transfers last week, Chris will have two free trades this week. With Man City players strong on many radars, a home tie with West Ham could be tempting, particularly ahead of next week’s double.

Big names here include Wayne Rooney and Nani squaring up to Van Persie’s Gunners, the above-mentioned Chelsea trio at home to Spurs, Leighton Baines at Wigan and Ashley Young travelling to West Brom.

Kevin Havelock

Beyond Havoc

Fantasy Football Scout Ranking #2 Overall FPL Ranking #4

Last Week’s Score 69pts
Kevin breaks into our top five this week and, similar to Chris, also had a Chelsea trio to thank, as Luiz, Cole and Malouda brought home 26 points. He also tripled up on Spurs players, but Van der Vaart, Bale and Dawson harvested just 7 points in total. Only one double gameweek player -Robert Huth- graced the team, but having been handed the captain’s armband, the Stoke centre half brought home a haul of 20 points. Van Persie and Charlie Adam added to the haul.

Gameweek 35 Preview
Having drafted Huth in for Leighton Baines last week, Kevin has just one free transfer this time round. There are no Man United players in the squad, an interesting tactic ahead of the leaders upcoming (ars, CHE) games.

With Spurs travelling to Chelsea, there are six players in the squad for this one fixture alone, though the likes of Dawson will surely be benched. Van Persie and Nasri face Man United, Andy Carroll (if fit) squares up against old club Newcastle and Aleksander Kolarov has an appealing home game against West Ham.

Kenny Coffey

Castel di Sangro

Fantasy Football Ranking #3, Overall FPL Ranking #15

Last Week’s Score 98pts
Our second new entry, Kenny fielded just the two double gameweek players, but that’s all he needed; captain Clint Dempsey and Robert Huth brought home 46 points between them. Florent Malouda and David Luiz grabbed 17 points at home to West Ham, Edwin Van der Sar and Van Persie picked up 7 points each, and Darren Bent pitched in with 6 with a goal against Stoke.

Gameweek 35 Preview
With no transfers last week, Kevin has two trades to play with; will he field four starters at the Emirates? At present, Van der Sar, Nani and Wayne Rooney travel to Van Persie’s Arsenal, Dempsey travels to Sunderland, Malouda and Luiz square up to Spurs while Bent travels to West Brom.

Patrick Tyrrell

Scalachis Allstars

Fantasy Football Scout Ranking #4, Overall FPL Ranking #16

Last Week’s Score 76Pts
Captain Clint Dempsey saved the week for Patrick, his 36 points returning almost half he team’s total. Frank Lampard bagged 11 points, Luiz and Van Persie both picked up 7, and Charlie Adam and Joey Barton grabbed 5 apiece.

Gameweek 35 Preview
Last week saw one transfer- Nani out for Dempsey, so there’s just the one free trade this week. Lampard and Luiz will take on Spurs at home, Leighton Baines travels to Wigan, while Peter Odemwingie and Yaya Toure have favourable home ties with Aston Villa and West Ham respectively.

Utkarsh Dalmia

Team Zophar

Fantasy Football Ranking #5, Overall FPL Ranking #18

Last Week’s Score 85pts
Utkarsh was another of our top five to captain Clint Dempsey and with Huth his other double gameweek player, gained a fantastic 46 points from the two. Doubling up on the Chelsea defence paid dividend, with Terry and Luiz picking up 13 points between them against West Ham. Van Persie grabbed 7 at Bolton, and both Charlie Adam and Wayne Hennessey chalked up 5 each.

Gameweek 35 Preview
Like Patrick, Dempsey-in was last week’s transfer, leaving Utkarsh with one free trade for gameweek 35. Rooney and Nani go head to head with Van Persie and Walcott, and the two Chelsea defenders are joined by Didier Drogba against Spurs. That’s seven players contesting two games. Will they all be risked? Elsewhere, Yaya Toure plays West Ham, Dempsey visits Sunderland and Charlie Adam hosts Huth‘s Stoke.

    El questione por favor.

If you're taking a hit for Joe Hart next week (which I am, fitness pending - main issue I guess), proactively it begs the question...

Who do you think is more likely to keep a Clean sheet this week, Ben Foster or Joe Hart?

In all honesty it's a toss up for me, but I'm wondering if it's just me and the great swathe of opinion differs one way or the other.

Ermmm... Even if Foster doesn't keep a clean sheet, then I doubt Hart will score four more points than him. Foster is always good for a fair few saves.

Taking a hit for a 'defender' if one believes the person you are selling won't keep a clean sheet is always worth it in my opinion.

In theory, under said belief, you may lose 2 points if it doesn't work but on the sweet spot you can gain 8 or so.

It's late and that's a god awful explanation. But my point being, I fully expect Brum to concede so Foster will get 2 points.

As long as Hart just plays both games he will get 4 points. So I just need 90 minutes of extra saves and two, albeit not great, chances of a clean sheet to make up or surpass the other 2 points spent

So, am I, a little bit.

What about the scenerio were Birmingham keep a clean sheet and City concede? A 19% chance according to the bookies, and in that scenerio you'd lose around 8 points from making the changes.

            Ignoring saves etc.

City clean sheet and Birmingham clean sheet: 0.46 * 0.36 = 17% Net points: -4

            City clean sheet and Birmingham concede: 0.46 * 0.64 = 29% Net points: 0

            City and Birmingham and both concede 0.54 * 0.64 = 35% Net points: -4

            City concede and Birmingham clean sheet: 0.54 * 0.36 = 19% Net points: -8

            Expected returns: (0.17*-4) + (0.29*0) + (0.35*-4) + (0.19 * -8) = -3.6 points

And all that ignores the fact that Foster has made 1.5 times as many saves as Hart this season. Obviously Foster could concede two goals, and is slightly more likely to do so than Hart, but it wouldn't alter the math *that* much.

The point which you're missing is you're transitioning the cost of the hit to THIS week entirely.

My point is if I'd spend the 4 points next week anyway (which I would and will) then that cost becomes rendered moot so it's just who is more likely to keep a cleen sheet this week.

Yeah I'm back on track now!

Still, working on clean odds alone, Hart is only expected to outscore Foster by 0.4 points this week. Once you factor in the fact that Foster is more likely to reach 3/6/9 saves than Hart then there will be barely anything in it.

Yeah but we don't score by decimal points. Saves I'm not even going to consider, I'm just working on clean sheet potential alone. I'll either make 4 points or not.

If I think they'll both do the same (whether it keep clean or not) I won't bother, but if I think City will and Birmingham won't I will. I'm as of yet undecided.

You're also running the slight risk of Hart (or Kompany etc) getting injured/suspended this week, which would probably mean you wouldn't want to have Hart next week after all

                  Indeed.

If Hart gets injured then you'll have to spend 8 point net on your goalkeepers. Is there a 1/10 chance that Hart will get injured in between you transferring him in this week and the first game of the double? Not a clue.

Yup, that's the biggest extraneous factor that means I haven't done it yet - were he to get suspended/injured/etc.

If I was selling, say, Tim Howard I would do it in a second and take those risks. But because I think their chances of a CS are quite close I guess the unknown weighs against not doing it...

After all, it's only four bloody points and I've lost all my leagues anyway. Who cares Andrew, who cares.

Because you were applying the hit as a factor in the transfer this week I was explaining, not very well at all, why I plan to make the transfer next week so I apply the hit into that weeks expectations; even if the transfer is now.

          Using the bookies odds:

Chance of a Man City clean sheet and Birmingham concede: 0.46 * 0.64 = 29%

Nuff said. Hart isn't going to outscore Foster by 4 points unless that happens.

        To answer your question:

Unless your applying dbronaldo's Law of Averages to the equation, then Hart is more likely to keep a clean sheet. But even if he does then Foster (+4 points) could easily outscore him. I'd make the change next week.

...that's the point. The 4 points is gone, vamoos, already committed.

So if people (well, I) ultimately think -as I said, I'd not made up my mind one way or the other- Hart is more likely to keep a clean sheet this week then it's logical to get him this week and make the extra bullion by being proactive with my transfer.

The hit gets costed/spent/however you want to put it next week or, at worst, across the weeks on the whole.

I am making the change next week, as I said.

The point is if I'm already committed to making said hit next week why not take the hit now when Foster scores 2 and Hart gets 6 (let's say) and make an extra 4 points out of the bargain.

Yeah, that's the long and short of it...

As I said, it's a toss up for me so I was looking for opinion on who people think is more likely for a CS etc. I know the bookies odds etc.

However the one extraneous factor that is on my back a little bit is this: I have no Wolves attackers whereas I am playing Der Hammer.

i think regardless of bookies' odds, our thought etc you'll have your thoughts on his chances and need to go with those. you'll have formulated your opinion for a reason so go with that. i'm also worried foster could be a 2 point or 6 point job this weekend in that i'm not overly confident in wolves to create enough shots for save points, nor am i confident enough in birmingham to stop them nicking a single goal

Really undecided this week. As it stands....

    Foster
    Baird - Luiz - Walker
    Lampard - Nani - VDV - Adam - OHara
    Drogba - RVP

    Begovic - Smalling - Dawson - Welbeck

    Currently Thinking Drogba/Smalling to Kolarov/Suarez(c)

    Opinions much appreciated

Offhand, I would downgrade Young and get VDV or be able to do it next week. You might have to do Bent for Odem. Whatever it takes to get 6 DGW players. I also like Lescott over Kolarov. Good luck and grats for the patience on not using the WC until the last moment.

So do I, ..... I followed conventional wisdom and unloaded VDV a few weeks back, wish I had kept him to save a move- now with the DGW he has to come back in. Your situation is unusual because of WC and a DGW this late in season, which is the context by which I made my move up.

If you don't want VDV, then you have to be brave and pick a TOT striker- I have no idea how. take care.

no idea about the details. i think the guy/company/group that owned tevez was part part of an investment group. the only benefits are making money for the company, business men like money and if yuo invest in a young up and coming footballer you're invariably going to make lots of money. i guess the football authorities don't like it as on top of complicating what should be more simple transfers these companies suck money out of football as opposed to it just being circulating between teams
