Having covered half of the Premier League in part one, the second half of our focus on the remaining fixtures switches to those teams facing a less than favourable path to gameweek 38. Read on for team-by-team analysis of the opponents they face, the motivation left in the tank and the player prospects to consider…

Arsenal

Final three fixtures: [stk, AVL, ful]
Away trips against two of the strongest home sides in the league threaten to throw further disappointment the way of Arsene Wenger’s men. The Gunners put in a determined show against United on Sunday however, and will surely go to the Britannia going all out for three points. Defensive returns will, as always, continue to look fragile and with slight injury doubts over Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, the onus will be on Robin Van Persie, and perhaps Theo Walcott, to produce at the sharp end. Van Persie’s form continues to be outstanding with a goal or an assist in 6 of his last 7 outings. Few Fantasy Managers will be getting rid then, although new investors will likely look elsewhere given the away fixtures and the likely hit on Arsenal’s motivation once the title slips to a mathematical impossibility.

Banker: Robin Van Persie Differential: Theo Walcott

Everton

Final three fixtures: [MCY, wba, CHE]
The Toffees have come good with their regular second half of the season resurgence which has seen them shoot up to table to sit comfortably in the top half. With fixtures against them however, David Moyes’ men are going to find it hard to add points to their tally with home encounters against top of the table sides and a trip to a more resolute West Brom outfit. Leighton Baines’ raiding runs and the possibility of retaining spot-kick duties following Mikel Arteta’s miss at Wigan, keeps him afloat as an end of season prospect.

Banker: Leighton Baines Differential: Tim Cahill

Liverpool

Final three fixtures: [ful, TOT, avl]
Liverpool’s form is outstanding and their fifth place ambitions certainly remain realistic. They will go into every game expecting three points right now but with tough trips to Fulham and Villa, plus a titanic clash with Spurs at Anfield, nothing will come easy for Kenny Dalglish’s side. Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez will surely attract investment following their weekend points haul but those chasing points will have to consider the fact that, even in their current run of form, Liverpool have scored more than one goal only once in their last 5 away games.

Banker: Luis Suarez Differential: Dirk Kuyt

Chelsea

Final three fixtures: [mun, NEW, eve]
Chelsea’s trip to Manchester United is a season definer that will shape the title race and our end of season Fantasy plans. If Carlo Ancelotti’s side can earn a result at Old Trafford then the final two games suddenly look more appealing and potentially rewarding in Fantasy terms. Goal difference could prove vital come the final count, meaning that Chelsea will be on the attack with Fantasy returns looking assured.

Banker: Frank Lampard Differential: Fernando Torres

Birmingham

Final three fixtures: [new, FUL, tot]
Alex McLeish’s outfit are limping their way to Premier League safety but they are far from out of the woods. The fixture list offers a mixed bag with the home clash with Fulham looking easily the most vital match-up remaining. Just 2 goals in their last 3 outings, with a single clean sheet in 9 sums up the current form. Fantasy Managers are surely likely to steer clear at both ends, with Ben Foster’s Save Points and Roger Johnson’s occasional Bonus Point potential providing the only real glimmer of promise.

Banker: Ben Foster Differential: Seb Larsson

Blackburn

Final three fixtures: [whm, MUN, wlv]
Steve Kean’s side won a vital three points against Bolton and, with two away fixtures in three, it’s clear just how precious they may prove. United’s visit to Ewood could be the game that seals the title for Alex Ferguson’s men and Rovers surely cannot look to that game for points with any real confidence. Attacking returns may materialise at West Ham and Wolves should Rovers be forced to fight to preserve their status; clean sheets look unlikely, although Chris Samba’s goal threat from set-pieces may yet come into play.

Banker: Chris Samba Differential: Junior Hoilett

Blackpool

Final three fixtures: [tot, BOL, mun]
Prospects seem bleak for Ian Holloway’s side with two away trips at White Hart Lane and Old Trafford remaining. The home tie with Bolton is without doubt the Tangerines’ best hope of earning the points to save their status, unless they can muster a result to frustrate the ambitions of Harry Redknapp’s Spurs this weekend. The final day trip to United may yet provide potential, although if United are still being pushed by Chelsea at that point, it’s hard to see any joy for Holloway on the final day. Fantasy Managers may well hold Charlie Adam for the Bolton clash, although his alarming dip in form, with strong midfield prospects elsewhere, is likely to spark increased sales over the coming week.

Banker: Charlie Adam Differential: DJ Campbell

Aston Villa

Final three fixtures: [WIG, ars, LIV]
Villa’s easy passage of fixtures has almost past them by, with their final two gameweeks handing them testing match-ups with Arsenal and Liverpool. Heavy returns look unlikely in those games, but the weekend Villa Park clash with Wigan is a vital one for the visitors that could draw goals for both sides over the 90 minutes. Those holding to Darren Bent and Ashley Young may well let that fixture pass before selling on.

Banker: Darren Bent Differential: Ashley Young

Stoke

Final three fixtures: [ARS, mcy, WIG]
Stoke not only have the FA Cup Final to provide a major distraction, they also have the controversy of their gameweek 37 fixture with City, a match which Stoke could be better off losing. Motivation and Fantasy prospects are clearly questionable then, with pride and Cup final places the only reasons for Tony Pulis’ side to fight till the end. Robert Huth’s dominant presence in the opposition box at set-plays has no regard for fixtures however, and that could keep him installed in many a Fantasy squad till the final weekend.

Banker: Robert Huth Differential: Jermaine Pennant

Fulham

Final three fixtures: [LIV, bir, ARS]
Mark Hughes’ side have by far the hardest final furlong to traverse this season. Their two home games against a Liverpool side resurgent under Kenny Dalglish and an Arsenal unit surely eager to end the season with a flourish, present few home comforts. Their away day meanwhile, has them travel to Birmingham who will surely be looking for three points to save their Premier League skins. Those holding onto Bobby Zamora and Clint Dempsey following recent profits will surely be planning an exit route right now.

Banker: Bobby Zamora Differential: Gael Kakuta

Coleman has to go, along with Carr and Kelly. I'd also expect Luiz to end up with 2 points on Sunday.

Play Simpson v Birmingham. I might chance my arm with Gary Cahill for the last 3 even though Bolton have nothing to play for.

Perhaps Luiz, Simpson & Cahill as your back 3? Don't see any massive incentive for players like Kolarov & Dawson, even with the dgw.

I am with you JOM8PH, seriously thinking of benching Lampard (giving front 7 of Fabs, N'Zog, VdV, Silva, RVP, Odem and Rooney). I also have 5.4 to spend on a defender. Cahill would have been my choice with funds, so prob going for Dawson, as he has a good fixture in GW38 too.

It's a risky strategy philman, but I can see United grinding out a 1-0 victory. I've got Little Pea still and I'm sure he's going to add to his goal tally before the season ends.

That Blackpool game for United in gw38 could be a bloodbath. We will know by then whether United will be genuinely playing for the League or using it as a practice match.

It's a risk, sure, but I think Lamps is more likely to score 2 points than anything else, and very unlikely to score big.

Heavy investment in Man U will be needed if the gw38 game still matters, but who is certain to play? Agree about Little Pea. I am keeping Rooney for same reasons.

I am having this dilemma and really thinking seriously of selling Luiz.

I have a 71 point lead in my mini league, pending FA enquiry, so unless I get a 30 point deduction for using a Mac Book to make my transfers then losing Luiz for a Man City defender probably isn't going to hurt me.

I can't see that his 3 games represent better value than Man City's four? Thinking Lamps is the only Chelsea cover I need now.

Then I think sell Roger Johnson instead, as I have Foster anyway and B'ham defence not the cleanie magnet they were last season.

    Great article no 2 Andy.

    Pick 2 defenders to play:

    Luiz, Simpson, Walker

I think Simpson has best bet for CS, but New are out of form. Villa defense is conceding lately a lot, I need to expect attacking returns from Walker and Luiz plays Utd but he has largest potential. He could bring me either 1,2 points or even 15.

    What to do and why?
    Cheers,

Newcastle are playing horribly at the moment, I'm playing both Luiz and Walker because of their attacking potential. So for those reasons I'd bench Simpson.

I am similar position, I have to bench 2 from hughes, huth, RJ, vidic and luiz. Going to bench hughes and huth atm.

I think luiz and Walker just. Walker and Simpson both prob wont keep CS, but walker = more attacking threat.

On the other hand if I bench Simpson I could lose 4 points max right? Means that defender I am gonna play is still gonna bring me 2pts I guess. Furthermore Walker and Luiz have bigger potential. Ok that is the thinking hope I won't change my mind in Friday. Now lets wait for the betting odds.

Not their defence. They are based on their attack.

Hoolahan or Simeon Jackson are your best bets for Norwich, imo. I'm not sure Holt really is Prem material.

QPR and Swansea would give you better defensive options as both those teams tend to have more defensive strategies. Norwich and Cardiff are more attack minded teams and Cardiff's defence would be a liability in the Prem.

Hell, Cardiff's defence is a liability in the Championship!

Thinking about writing a program to grab information from FPL. Would anyone be interested in things such as:

    - % ownership of a player by the top 1000/10,000/100,000 etc. teams.
    - Captain figures - i.e. number of people in the top 500,000 to have captained a player
    - For a particular player: the number of people to have him captain/in the team/first sub/second sub/third sub.

    stuff like that

    RVP Suarez Odemwingie

All set on Baird -> Lescott

But also tempting me (fitness depending obviously):
    A) Suarez -> Sturridge
    B) Etherington -> Parker / De Hammer / O'Hara / Jarvis (Seems a no brainer in a way but would cause bench dilemmas)

Tough game against Fulham and Liverpool are a different beast on the road than they are at Anfield.

I'd hold on to him this week though as he's in form, is a bonus point darling right now and there really aren't many better option up front this week.

Next week I'm thinking of shipping him for Rooney though. Man Utd's last 2 games are tasty and I get the feeling they will need to score a ton of goals to try and pip Chelsea to the title. Liverpool's sked is a bit meh and only 1 home game against Spurs to come.

I don't really think either will keep a cleanie this dgw, but Spurs have the better chance against a Blackpool side that seem to have lost all their lustre now.

However, really, why have a £6.8m keeper on a dgw and not play him?

I also said I don;t think either team will keep a cleanie.

My point is, Gomes could possibly be a slightly better option but why have Hart if you're not going to start him when he has a dgw? Its a waste of a lot of money.

I'd probably take out Yaya for him.

And all dependant on the game on Sunday, if we win, VDV gets shifted for Malouda and I go gung ho with him, Luiz and Lamps.

Mate, never did I think that when we were 5th we would ever have a chance of being in this position so like the game at SB when Avram was in charge, we've got nothing to lose and everything to gain so we might as well go for it.

Yaya does also have a very good fixture though, so it may not be that easy persuading yourself to get rid, especially if he does well this week.

Yup, if we do win then Chelsea attacking investment is definitely way to go. United will likely hammer Blackpool in the final week, so we'll need to score as many goals as possible against Newcastle! Then we'll have to shift them all to United players for the final week as they put eight past Blackpool!

I just hope we do a better job than in the Champions League! It's an identical situation, anything other than a win and it's all over. Not particularly hopeful though.... Winning at both Old Trafford and Goodison Park would be a huge effort!

I've got Silva as well so would like to think that out of the two, he would get a better score than Yaya. We'll see. As Nomar said below, it might be a case of shifting him out and leaving him out.

I could do Nani to VDV though as he's dropping tonight.

            Midfield is Nani/Adam/Silva/Yaya/Lamps.

Got 5.1 in the bank so can shift to Utd if need be.

Yeah was a bit disheartening that performance - especially letting Park score 20 seconds after we scored. But Torres has his goal now, looked really good on Saturday (wasn't annoyed he got subbed for Kalou either) so he's a good option to have to come off the bench. All I hope for is that we just leave Drogs upfront, play with 4-3-3 and just have a right old go.

None of us expected to be in this position and if it doesn't go our way, then it's nothing lost.

True, but it will still hurt like hell seeing United win it!

To be honest, I'd be more inclined to lose Nani, although not tonight - there's no sense in chasing value at this stage in the season. I wouldn't have thought that he'll start at the weekend against us, we should get a feel for their side at the weekend based on the side Fergie picks for the game against Schalke in the week. I reckon it will be Valencia and Park against us.

Didn't see the match on Saturday, but it sounds as though we played fairly well. Apparently Kalou threw a massive sulk too?! Meant to be annoyed that he got dropped from the side for Torres. To be fair, he's been content being a sub for about five years now, so if he wants to move on to secure first team football - which Chelsea surely can't guarantee him - then I wouldn't begrudge him a move whatsoever. He's an effective option off the bench, nothing more than that, and if he's no longer happy doing that, then it makes sense for everyone to let him go. About time too, he's not progressed much since the day we signed him!

No, but once rid I'd keep rid.

Spurs have a lot to play for still and VdV's performance against Arsenal should have told you he's pretty much fixture proof.

Only reason to keep Adam right now is for pens and teams at the bottom don't tend to get those decisions go their way at this time of the season, as Blackpool found out this weekend.

I have Adam but considering getting rid. May dump Jarvis first though. Wolves look cack and I really can't see them doing jack now.

Actually Nomar,I am little bit afraid to bench Adam this GW . A lot of the lads are thinking to sell/ bench him and most of his big point hauls were away when nobody was expecting. And Tot defense is made for making penalties IMO 😉

I know but his returns or performances recently don't offer much encouragement.

I may keep him simply because Wolves look like they're done and when you're relying on Stephen Fletcher to get the goals to stop you being relegated things don't really look good for you!

          Jarvis may have to go

Maybe I am wrong but I don't fancy Jarvis as fpl related player. Check your plan and have in mind that u have to bench one attacking player in each of the next 3 GW's. People are forgetting this kind of stuff lately.

I like your attacking players so it is either Adam or Jarvis for bench role, don't forget that. Good luck mate

                I am aware of this.

Which is why I say he may have to go.

At the end of the day I think any changes I make will be defensive ones and I'll have to decide to bench one of Adam or Jarvis.

I don't know if I want to do Adam to Yaya as I like the security of having a penalty taker in my lineup and you know the week you bench him is the week Blackpool will get a pen!

Who to start: Carroll or Zamora

(If neither look much of a prospect, should i take a 4pt hit to get Sturridge? Would make it a 8pt hit overall)

I see a lot of lads around here are not so keen to go big on City and Tot players. If that is the case I might go heavy on them, with 5 or 6 doublers. I could bench/sell the second and third Tot player next GW and will play all of my City players against Stoke.

P.S. Stoke are in Europe only if City finish in top 4 😉 Its like a triple GW 4 me 😉 .

City maybe but there is fear of rotation plus Everton away and Spurs at home in essentially a Champions League playoff final game doesn't really push a lot of our buttons.

Spurs have one good game against Blackpool but after that the rest of their games are hard.

You would be looking to sell most of your Spurs assets bar VdV after the dgw so you could end up using up the points you gained from the dgw on hits to transfer them out again.

Maybe but, Pav will be benched or sold for Chicarito without hit in GW 37. I am happy with my defense for now. Yaya is safe from rotation IMO and I will pay all my City players in GW 37. I will have 7 attacking players with good fixtures in GW 37 after all, I think its worth the risk.

Who would you bench out of this front 8:

    Yaya silva VDV young kuyt
    Odem Drog RvP

Thinking of Lampard to VDV and cleverly to silva which leaves me with the above but poses a bench problem. Alternative is to lose young and lamps instead.

Nasty dilemma. This is why you need one crap MF'er of striker.

Clearly you can't bench Young, Silva or VdV. Kuyt is in the form of his life right now. Young could have one of those days against Wigan when he hits double figures. Or he could net you anther 2 pointer.

Obviously you'd want to play all of your strikers.

Young looks like the odd man out then?

Great advice guys, thanks. If I had that front 8 my feeling was to bench Odem. A rival has offside-bent up front so keeping young was insurance in what should be an easy fixture but can also see Odem scoring at molineux.

Putting it like that....the other advice offered above (thanks) was to sell young for VDV and not bother with silva. Risky as a rival has silva and I'm protecting a lead.
