Our Watchlist player rankings for the final three gameweeks of the season have now been updated and can be viewed in your right-hand sidebar as usual. Our analysis of the current standings is being split this week, to allow us more time to discuss the options available and the reasoning behind the new standings.

We begin by looking at the options available in goal and in the back four, and with clean sheets at a premium at this late stage, there’s clearly greater emphasis on supplementary points when it comes to assessing transfer targets. Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Save Points and Bonus come into play more than ever, while there’s never been a better time to invest in defenders who pose a precious goal threat. Finally of course, the double fixtures for both Man City and Spurs hand their players a short-term boost which promotes them in our thinking.

Joe Hart’s position at the top of the keeper rankings is safe and, despite his hefty Fantasy price tag, he is set to enjoy a renaissance when it comes to investment over the next few days. City’s four fixtures should return at least one clean sheet, while Hart’s propensity to earn Save Points is proven and should come into play for the crunch clash with Spurs.

Hart’s opposite number Heurelho Gomes is under fire following his Stamford Bridge calamity. It may seem folly to consider the error-strewn Brazilian but Harry Redknapp has stated that he will stand by him and, coupled with a double fixture and home matches against Blackpool and Birmingham, there’s enough to earn Gomes the second spot in our rankings. Available for 5.2 in the FPL, investment in the Spurs defence comes down to Gomes’ Save Point potential versus Michael Dawson’s goal threat and his chances of earning Bonus Points. With other targets available to us in defence, Gomes looks the better option for those who can’t find the funds for Hart.

While that pair are already the most “transferred in” keepers in the FPL this week, West Ham’s Robert Green, priced at 4.8 in the FPL, provides an option lower down our rankings for those searching for a mid-price solution. Again, Save Points are the draw here with the Hammers perhaps unlikely to earn shut-outs given their current form, despite facing decent fixtures over the run-in.

While the aforementioned Michael Dawson remains a tempting option for double gameweek investors, we’ve placed the centre-back in fifth spot in our defender rankings with the likes of David Luiz, Leighton Baines and Aleksandar Kolarov all better placed. Bolton’s Gary Cahill is also ranked above the Spurs man with fixtures that hand him opportunities to fetch at both ends of the field. We will bring you an in-depth look at Cahill’s potential over the remaining games later this week.

Kolarov’s position at the top of our rankings is perhaps controversial. There’s every chance that the Serb will fall victim to Roberto Mancini’s purported plans to rotate ahead of the weekend trip to Goodison but, with doubts still surrounding the availability of Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta, we’re expecting to see Kolarov make at least one appearance in the gameweek. There’s even a possibility that we’ll find him taking up a left-midfield role should Mancini look to strangle Tottenham’s threat on the flanks when they visit Eastlands. Above all, Kolarov’s booming left-foot and set-piece involvement is enough to keep him simmering above team-mate Joleon Lescott who himself, may get rotated when City visit his former club Everton at the weekend.

With attacking potential remaining key to our defensive targets, we’ve kept Robert Huth high in our rankings, despite the fact that clean sheets look very unlikely over Stoke’s daunting last three fixtures. Huth has home matches with Arsenal and Wigan and, given his goal output this season, it would be no surprise to see him notch another strike before the curtain falls.

Sunderland’s Nedum Onuoha is without doubt the most intriguing selection in our rankings. Steve Bruce pushed the big defender up front against Fulham on Saturday; desperate measures with the Black Cats trailing by a 3-0 deficit. Onuoha has experience in the striker role as a youngster and could well be called into service for Sunderland’s remaining fixtures given the lack of a physical presence available to lead the attack. Even if he starts in defence, there’s every chance that Onuoha will be thrown up front should the Black Cats need to chase games as they battle for every point.

It represents a big gamble given the porous state of Sunderland’s back four, but he would certainly offer a differential with perhaps more potential to deliver than the likes of Jose Enrique, Wayne Bridge and even the cheap option offered by Liverpool’s John Flanagan. If you’re in the market for an end of season minor miracle – Onuoha looks the most likely option amongst the defensive candidates available.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

being in england, i don't really understand why people turned against him so soon after taking office

i mean there was a huge amount of positivitey a la blair/labour 1997 and we know what happened there, but it didn't seem obama had been president for long before the dissenting voices took over

I believe Obama's a good man. I do. Voted for him.

But, fact: he either continued too many Bush policies and/or didn't fight hard enough for his own. Old story of Politics, I guess. But, when you run on Hope rather than Realism ... things can crash quick.

Oh, and the Democratic Party has fewer strong bones than a shark. Fact.

I just think with the establishments he was taking on (eg healtchare companies) when he laid out his policies and the extent to which some republicans were against him it was inevitable that he'd have a hard time in office.

True ... but an engaging and powerful speaker like O could motivate and lead for true change, were it not for his party acting the anchor around his neck.

Our health care reform is aiiight, but not a substantive, "true" reform without a 'public option' (universal insurance and gov't-provided plans).

Democrats concede every point to have some verve for the next point -- but the next never comes. They're the Chamberlain's of America 🙂

As far as health care goes I'm of the view that it was more important to get something down which could be built upon if Obama gets a second term than to spend months and months wrangling for the full package.

If you are content on selling Rooney, then go right ahead.

Also, if you're going to buy Hart, sell Foster instead because at that price, he has to play every week. This will free up more funds as well.

that sounds ok but bear in mind if chelsea beat united, you'll probably want nani back when theyre fighting for goal difference!

I'll be buying him for gw38 i think, if that's the case. (And malouda for 37)

A fit RVP is never a bad thing... I'd be more worried about having arsenal defenders vs stoke's arial attack.

That's why i'm not benching huth! (He's been stoke's main goal threat recently, unlucky not to have scored)

Protecting a 60 point lead in my mini league, my rival has 2 transfers this week and STILL his wildcard intact. Gonna try and take advantage of the DGW with the following:

    Johnson R replaced by Dawson
    Huth replaced by Kolarov
Adam replaced by Van der Vaart

    Leaving me with

    Foster (Bergovic)
Luiz, Dawson, Kolarov (Coleman / Terry)
    Kuyt, Lamps, VDV, Yaya, Silva
    Van Persie, Carroll, Hernandez

Would appreciate your massive and experienced brains to cogitate on my team for a few seconds:

    Foster (Begovic)
    Walker, Luiz, Baines (Terry, Huth)
    Kuyt, Modric, Downing, VDV(c) (Barton)
    RVP, Drogba, Odem

Currently have subs in this ordure: (Huth, Barton, Terry)

I'm frankly just out of ideas as to how to improve this since I now only have 0.6 in the bank after doing Walters to Modric.

Could do Kuyt to Silva for the run-in but I'm really not convinced.

Any thoughts based on some vestige of info would be greatly appreciated.

Ruminate then, rather than cogitate... 🙂

I am sorely tempted to shift out Terry. From past form he'll pick up another yellow card at least, if not a red one.

I only have 0.6 in the bank so cant afford to go anyone but Kuyt to Silva since getting rid of VDV would be silly.

But I can also see massive rotation risks in the City defence and their entire team before the FA Cup final, and don't think they will keep clean sheets, same as Spurs defence.

(Apologies for the delay in my reply, but I had to save a potentially lethal goulash from overcooking).

So Terry to who? Any suggestions except for a Man C or Spurs defender? Was toying with the idea of Cahill but had him in my team once before and he was utter shite.

Picking a Citeh defender who won't be rotated is about as predictable as Mancini's hairstyle.

Yeah when people say don't buy gomes yet its ok to buy Dawson they're clearly not thinking logically.

if gomes makes an error, Dawson loses the clean sheet too.

have to think in ff terms... and I think gomes will make saves, whereas Dawson isn't that likely to score or assist. also gomes rotates with szczesny, so good option for me.

Kolarov is just the cheapest option into a good City defense. Albeit their is a bit of risk that he may not start, the risk is not as high as the other cheap options.

I got him for the potential clean sheets, and not goals/assists.

but he's been withdrawn before 60 mins in the past... and he's also not been guaranteed starts. If you want clean sheets the number 1 priority is a guarantee of 60+ mins.

just checked it... 5 times kolarov played less than 60 mins, and in ALL FIVE games city kept a clean sheet!

So that is 20 points lost beause of rotation. Also, does this suggest his absence somehow improves clean sheet potential? Probably not

Huth or Terry out for Kolarov this week, Chelsea have a better run of Fixtures I think

Well you have Luiz, so I think losing Terry would make the most sense.

terry out, because huth has a good gw38, is always a goal threat, and you already have luiz.

I usually think it's ok to double up on defenders but with 3 weeks left you dont have time for things to even out over the season, so why not dilute the risk?

Also i'd go for lescott over kolarov. Would be amazed to see kolarov start both dgw games after mancini hinted at rotation. But I dont think he'll tinker with central defence.

    41 pt. lead
    My Yaya+VDV
    vs.
    His Silva+Modric+Kolarov+Dawson
    Tottenham def will yield little
    Man City rotation risk
Hart best but limits options in final two weeks
Will probably go for Kolarov so able to do N'Zogbia and Drogba & Hitzlsperger and Rooney for GW37 and GW38

I have Carson at home to wolves and Cech at OT to choose from this week in goal. Wondering if it's worth trading Cech to Hart for a hit. Was considering dempsey to Modric with free transfer.

Carson's away. I'd play Carson, because if Cech gets a cleanie, Nani & Wazza won't get much. You already have Kolarov, so don't get Hart.
