The second part of our Watchlist review finds us switching attention to the attacking assets on offer over the final three fixtures. While the lack of clean sheets threaten our defensive returns, our biggest enemy in the attacking positions is without doubt the threat of rotation caused by diminishing motivation in the league, as the title race draws to a close and Cup Finals loom. Once again however, the two fixtures for Spurs and City in gameweek 36 play a major part in our short-term considerations…

The double gameweek targets are obvious. Rafael Van der Vaart chipped in with a clever assist for Sandro’s goal at Stamford Bridge and will go into games against Blackpool and City as a key player and the major attacking threat in Harry Redknapp’s ranks. Luka Modric will also be fancied, but while the Dutchman claims top spot in our rankings, the Croatian trickster is kept outside of the top five. Bonus Points are always on the menu with Modric, but direct returns from goals and assists have proved harder to come by – Van der Vaart clearly has the edge.

City’s midfield pairing of Yaya Toure and David Silva both rank above the Tottenham playmaker. However, we go into the double gameweek with Roberto Mancini providing an early warning of rotation; both Toure and Silva could be victims with the latter perhaps the most likely to sit out. Given his form, we should perhaps expect two starts for Silva, but much depends on how the weekend results pan out. Should City earn three points at Everton, then fourth spot would be secured and that would surely see Mancini shuffle his pack against Spurs prior to the FA Cup Final with Stoke just four days later. Toure and particularly Silva, would then both appear to be vulnerable.

Heavy investment in City’s double gameweek prospects could go largely unrewarded then, and that switches our focus to some prime candidates facing just one fixture in the gameweek.

Thomas Hitzlsperger was the subject of last week’s Watchlist article in anticipation of his climb up the rankings for the final three fixtures. The German has maintained his form throughout a disastrous spell of results for the Hammers and, with Avram Grant’s side now facing a make or break run of games against beatable opponents, the onus will be on him to drag his side to safety. Hitzlsperger boasts both creativity and goal threat in the West Ham midfield and with Scott Parker still an injury doubt, the German would be a key candidate for Bonus should the Hammers earn the results they so badly need.

Jamie O’Hara failed to reward double gameweek investment over Wolves’ recent spell but remains a target given his run of opponents over the final three. Like West Ham, Mick McCarthy’s side have their Premier League fate in their own hands and, like Hitzlsperger, should Wolves get the results they need, then O’Hara looks likely to reward any Fantasy investment.

Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt suffers a drop in the rankings, despite an incredible run of form. Andy Carroll’s return to fitness is likely to see the toiling Dutchman shift to a right midfield role. Kuyt will remain on spot-kicks but, with Liverpool also facing two away trips in the next three, his stock takes a dent.

Two good home fixtures keep the Newcastle pairing Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton on the simmer, while Clint Dempsey’s form is strong enough to maintain a high ranking despite two very tough home matches against Liverpool and Arsenal. Dempsey has the talent and threat to add to his impressive season goal tally, even against such stern opponents. As for Arsenal’s midfield talent – we have injury doubts surrounding both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and, with testing visits to Stoke and Fulham to come, holding Arsenal midfielders along with Robin Van Persie is perhaps overkill. Theo Walcott is our highest placed option amongst Arsene Wenger’s squad – he is a possible differential for those who take a punt over the final three matches.

Further down the rankings you’ll find Charles N’Zogbia who is currently an injury doubt for Wigan’s weekend trip to Villa; the Latics set to assess his condition later this week. That doubt keeps the Frenchman out of the upper echelons of our rankings but, if the prognosis on the injury is favourable, we can expect N’Zogbia to climb our rankings for the final three. Along with Hitzlsperger, the Wigan winger is a potentially powerful differential.

The forward rankings show very little movement with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie still clear in front as a key Fantasy target with form and fixtures falling his way. Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie continues to maintain his goal fetching form to retain his high placing, despite difficult away trips to come. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez completes our top three strikers, although his placing is boosted by the current injury doubt surrounding Bolton’s Daniel Sturridge. If we’ve evidence of his availability at Blackburn this weekend, then the Chelsea loanee will likely climb back to third spot given his final three fixtures.

Below this pack the likes of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Mario Balotelli are all threatened by possible rotation over the final three matches. While City have a Cup Final with Stoke to come, United seem set to progress to the Champions League final this evening and could claim the title in gameweek 37 which would likely see Rooney sit out at least part of the final day against Blackpool. The same could apply to Hernandez, with both Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen available as rotation options – something we’re likely to see in evidence against Schalke this evening.

Didier Drogba and Demba Ba are perhaps your differentials at both ends of the budget spectrum. Drogba’s form looks set to keep him in the Chelsea lineup to the final gamweek with Fernando Torres rotated around him. Should Chelsea remain in the title race until the end, Drogba would seem likely to offer returns throughout having rediscovered something like his early season form. Ba meanwhile, has the fixtures to thrive but doubts over his fitness remain. If West Ham are to survive in the Premier League, Ba’s form will be a vital component of the great escape.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I've got Silva and Yaya already, and am definitely bringing VDV in. I might get Hart in as well, but still undecided about that.

I really can't see past VDV captain considering I'd probably captain him if they just had the Blackpool fixture, the Man City game is just a bonus.

I've kept Ashley Young through all these fixtures, got him in for his 18 point haul and stuck through all the time.

I'm probably getting rid this week or next but either way I have a bad feeling he'll finally start scoring some points against Liverpool and Arsenal, it would be typical!

Him going depends on whether I want Hart or not. Currently I'm considering two different transfer options

Actually, I may get rid thinking about it. I want to get VDV in, and I've Nani & Lampard (who I was going to chose between to get VDV in), but if Chelsea do win this weekend then Utd and Chelsea are gonna need goals goals goals in the last two games and so I'm going to want Nani & Lampard.

Tough one, but I wouldn't feel comfortable getting rid of Lampard this week, just in case they do win. Newcastle next week could be a battering if they need the goals. Can you not get VDV any other way?

Yeah I can get VDV in a simple swap for Young. The only reason I'd get rid of Lampard is to get Hart for Begovic (as I'd need the cash).

Young did threaten to score big when he was playing just behind the striker, but he is now back on the wing in a Villa team struggling to score goals, I took him out last week and it paid off as it was Silva coming in, I think people need to look past his "potential" and realise that he is just not cutting the mustard, Wigan at home and all he got was 2 points, he can have all the potential in the world but it is not providing the pointential!

As the season draws to a close may be worthwhile getting guarenteed starters with form. Rather than rotation risk with form. Just three pts off my mini league lead...every pt counts.

good point. I think VDv is the must have this week. Everyone here will captain him. So missing out on him could hurt. Silva is top of my list...but I can;'t help thinking this could be one of those doubles where form single weekers like Odem, Bent etc will run riot.

No surprise to see Dawson 5th in the rankings. With a double, and a decent one at that, you'd expect their top defender to be challenging for top spot on the watchlist rankings so 5th is pretty poor but understandable.

Anyone considering Spur's defensive assets are obviously looking at the home game against Blackpool as a potential clean sheet. However you only need look at their last 3 home games to see why a cleanie may be hard to come by:
    Stoke 3-2
    Arsenal 3-3
    West Brom 2-2

If anything, for me Gomes is .5 cheaper and will still get you the cleanie if there is one. Anyone like myself with the Foster/Bego combination is obviously looking at this GW as a bit of a sticky Gk situation.

        Gomes rotates well with Foster.
        Hart rotates well with Bego.

Decisions decisions, in light of the rotation risks surrounding the city midfield I just might plump for Foster>Hart as my freebie instead of Nani>Silva/Yaya.

There is basically no point changing a GK for a hit though.

I can't believe that usually sensible people are suggesting it was deliberate! Or buying the dressing room dare theory! You can't see where the ball goes in that clip, but when you see the wider angle shot it goes exactly where his run is aimed. He should have apologised, but come on guys!

As far as I can tell the ball goes one way and he goes another. TBH it's hard to prove things either way in issues like this but to me it looks a bit suspicious.

Actually I'll retract that- he goes after the ball, but there was clearly no need to do so as it was already out for a goal kick.

He goes after the ball, but is slowing up, then all of a sudden just piles into her. Why does he bother putting his arm up near his chest to try and run after the ball

The ball wasn't out for a goalkick at that point, there's a chance he could have kept it in. You can't tell any of this from the close angle shot.

Probably not, especially as the players you just mentioned may only get one out of the DGW.

Realistically City won't get two cleanies. If they get one, the hit you are taking negates the benefit of matching your opponent's cleanie.

      IMO 🙂

      Morning,gents.Here's my team:

      Dempsey,Silva(C),Lampard,Barton,
      Odemwingie,RVP,Drogba.(0.5 in bank,1 free transfer)

      Subs: Foster,Luiz,Coleman,Adam.

First of all,is the starting XI right pre-transfers?I really think Birmingham will concede away to Newcastle and just playing RJ because of his bonus point potential.Secondly, which of these transfer options looks the best?:

      A) Lampard->VdV for free.

      B) Coleman->Foley,Dempsey->VdV for -4.

      C) Lampard->VdV,Adam/Dempsey(?)->Yaya.

      D) Lampard->VdV,Coleman->Kolarov.

I'd play Luiz ahead of RJ.

To be honest I wouldn't get rid of Lamps as you'll want him next week so I don't like most of your options. If pushed Option B for me looks best.

Ideally you'd want to be doing Dempsey > VDV but don't have the moolah in the bank for this. As Charlie Sheen would say... "Plan better".

Yep,I don't really want to get rid of Lamps as well, even though my transfer options suggest otherwise. 🙂 I just wanted both VdV and Yaya because I think it will be better to have as many DGW players as you can.But I think you are right,B looks the best option.Lamps can tear it up at home against Newcastle if Chelsea stay alive in the title race.

If it was me I'd put all of the names of your current players on seperate pieces of paper and put them in a bag.

Then in another bag I'd do the same for all the other possible FPL players. Then I would make 5 changes at random.

If I'm correct you seem to have 2 freebies this week. In which case I'd do:
          Nani > VDV
          Adam > Yaya

Then I'd play this as your first XI...
          Foster
          Lolarov Luiz Walker
          VDV Yaya Lamps A.Young
          RVP Odem Rooney

          O'Hara as first choice sub.

          Happy now?

I think this gameweek is 5hit of bust for many a mini league manager chasing a lead. I have a lead of 75 points which isn't totally safe over 3 gameweeks...esp with a city and spurs. Captain choice will be crucial.

Morning, Im defending a 38 point lead with 3 weeks to go. My options this week are:

        A. Do nothing, save 2 transfers for next week and my front 7 will be Silva, Young, VDV, Lampard; Zamora, RVP, ODEM?????

        B. Bring in Toure for Adam, my rival has him so safer move, which would mean benching lamps giving me Silva, Young, VDV, Toure; Zamora, RVP, ODEM or do I sub Zamora????

        C. Do I leave as is but do a transfer of Gomes from Foster

Many thanks, this is the pinacle week me thinks!!!!

Anyone with a big lead in their mini league? The majority of posts seem to be that it's very close, either leading or chasing.

I have a 103 point lead in the league I'm playing for money in. A combination of using this site no doubt, coupled with a bit more research than my fellow FPLers. I got off to a pretty good start and since about GW4 have been leading. My competitors are also very transfer happy which has helped.

I'd say I'm pretty safe, but I'll wait until after this game week to celebrate. Although saying that, one of my mates has already paid me my winnings!

I'm trying to chase down two rivals atm- but it's gonna be nigh on impossible as they'fe both chosen all the dgw essentials and the likes of Lennon don't fill me with any confidence as differentials.....

I did that last week, although after transfer deadline just to wind them up before the site was updated.

yeah mines close, 38 points between me and 2nd, then only bout 9 points between 2nd and 4th. Thing is, my mates do go on here and do loads of research and calculate their transfers!!!!

Makes for exciting times I just think our be sound with 103 but if your rivals gamble, E.G anyone other than VDV this week and score a haul, they can really get back in it! 38 points would be fook all if their capt scores 20-30 points and yours gets 4!

        Yaya Nani Silva Young
        Odem Rooney RVP

        S: Walcott Terry Kelly(inj)

You don't need to do much at all, I think your opponent's team is weaker (Berbs/Walcott etc).

I'd save a transfer if I were you and start planning how you're gonna bring in Drogba next week.
