With the previous nine fixtures in gameweek 36 failing to return a single clean sheet, there were concerns that Fulham and Liverpool would play out a 0-0 stalemate. Liverpool had other plans however – they continued a barnstorming run of form under Kenny Dalglish, smashing five past the home side to chalk up 17 goals in the last 5 games. Fulham grabbed a brace to make it a poor week for defenders, with only tonight’s Man City vs Spurs clash left for any chance of a shutout. Here’s the notes from last night’s game…

Luis Suárez
The Uruguayan continues to dazzle since his January move, with another outstanding display for Liverpool in the Craven Cottage rout. With 65 points in his 11 appearances, he’s just shy of 6pts per game, a phenomenal return for his debut half-season. Suárez’s game is looked kindly upon by the Bonus judges, picking up 14 already. As far as Fantasy Managers are concerned, the only aspect missing in his game is penalty-kick duties.

As Kenny Dalglish acknowledged after the match:

“Suárez was fantastic. He was running as hard at the end as at the beginning. Even in our wildest dreams we couldn’t have thought he’d settle as well as he has done. He has graced the pitch every time he has stepped on it“.

Opposite number Mark Hughes also joined the Suárez fanclub in his summing up…

“I don’t think our guys have been up against him too much at international level, so it was a new experience for them and they’ll learn from it…He was always mobile, always in little pockets of space. Maybe we allowed him too much time and never really dictated to him. It was always the other way round and when good players have time and space, they can hurt you, which he certainly did. He was outstanding tonight.”

We were tracking Suárez in third place in our Watchlist rankings behind Peter Odemwingie and Robin Van Persie going into the weekend – all three came good to continue their outstanding run of form.

Maxi and Kuyt
As Suárez led the Fulham back-line a merry dance, the Liverpool pair continued their incredible recent scoring streaks. With Andy Carroll sitting on the sidelines, Maxi hit a hat-trick for his second 20+ FPL point return in three weeks, while Kuyt scored for the fifth game in a row, and has returned 84 FPL points in the last eight gameweeks.

Dalglish also gave positive news on his other big-name January signing, suggesting Andy Carroll only has bruising, offering hope the big striker may come back for the remaining two games (TOT,avl). Carroll’s return would see Kuyt move back into midfield, with Maxi favourite to return to the bench, a sign of an improving strength in depth at Anfield. In normal circumstances, Dalglish would surely be reluctant to tinker with his lineup and re-introduce Carroll. The opportunity to see the big number nine and Suarez working in tandem up front once more is likely to tempt him to shuffle however.

Fulham Already on Holiday?
Mark Hughes’ side have one of the best home records in the top-flight this season and came into this game with 6 wins, a draw and 6 clean sheets in the last seven at Craven Cottage. Mid-table safety with just a couple of games to go, however, can sometimes lead to lethargy and Fulham were deservedly three-nil down at the break after a poor display. The hosts only started playing in the second 45, when Bobby Zamora replaced Simon Davies, and at least matched Liverpool for goals after the break. To make matters worse, 5 bookings dented their hopes of Europa League qualification through the Fair Play League.

Mark Hughes will want a response after this thrashing but Fulham face two difficult last fixtures (bir, ARS) before the season closes. Fantasy Managers holding on to Fulham’s assets – notably Clint Dempsey, will likely be considering their options going into Saturday’s deadline.

    I might have a cheeky punt on Fabregas this gameweek.

    Providing he is fit, I fancy him to put in a shift in his last ever game at the Emirates.

    What do you guys think? Had a nightmare with suarez in my main rivals team last night. If I lose against him this week, the season is his.

    Remaining players for this gw are...

    ME: Silva, Dawson, DVD(c) + 3 points

    HIM: Lolarov, Pav, Sandro, DVD(c)

    could be close... think he might have edged it???

          Agreed on the no defender appealing, but I have to sell with Walker (ars) and Dawson (liv) on my bench.

          A straight swap for Alex is my best idea at the moment.

              Probably for the best, clean sheets are so hard to predict this season, so the hit for Alex most probably won't be worth it. I just hate playing defenders with rubbish fixtures, I'll do anything to avoid it.

    Is Drogba going to start this weekend or am I better off getting Suarez. Have a feeling Torrs will see action. I already have Kuyt?

    Would like to get NZogbia but would have to transfer out VDV or Silva if I don't transfer out Drogba. If Silva starts today I don't think he'll play GW37 against Stoke as you know he'll play in the FA Cup Final this weekend.

    Suggestions?

      Have pretty much the same dilemma as you, it's probably best waiting until Carlo does some sort of press conference, where he may give some sort of hint about which forwards he plans to play in he next couple of games.

      I wouldn't get rid of Silva because there's a *chance* that he'll get rested against Stoke.

    Ok currently chasing a 40 point lead for last few weeks and getting really annoyed as the gap is staying the same despite me having 7 or 8 different players to mini-league leader. I feel I am playing too safe as last two weeks I brought in Yaya and VDV.

    This week Im thinking of bringing in G.Johnson,N'ZOG, Berbatov for Hangeland, Nolan and Van persie(8 point hit).

    My team: Al habsi,foster
    Coleman, Hangeland, Luiz, smalling, walker
    Lamps,Nolan,Adam,VDV,yaya
    Odem.Rooney,Van persie
    Itb: 0.1m

    Rivals team:
    Robinson,Foster
    Kolarov,vidic,Ivanovic,bardsley,simpson
    VDV, Malouda,Wilshere,Silva, Adam
    Zamora, Van persie, Balotelli
    Itb: 2.1m

    The guy I am chasing knows very little about football and supports Man utd because there successful. He is picking players based on fpl history and big game knowledge. It's his first year in fpl and he's winning my league. So fellow experienced fpl managers and football fans need some serious help to stop my statistician rival. Will consider a 20 point hit if need be!He's on 1957 and Im on 1918. Hope he doesn't see this as Im convinced hes using this site to choose captain captain .We both have vdv captain for gw36

    My defence was meant to be Luiz, Kolarov, Carr (benching Walker and Huth).

    What would you guys do;

    a) If Luiz is out, Walker comes in and save a transfer for next week.
    b) Luiz to Alex

    A is better because also Kolarov and Huth might not play and cos I also remember that alex's freekickgoal in the same gameweek that I just took him out!

    B is better bacause alex needs a cs to make it worth a transfer.

    Cheers!

    What do you guys think is the best of these transfer options?

    a) Young > N'Zogbia - money not a problem.

    OR

    b) Young > Walcott and Welbeck > Odemwingie for a 4 pt hit, £0.1 left in the bank

    What do you reckon Walcott's chances are compared to N'Zogbia's over the last 2 games? N'Zogbia is carrying a knock and Walcott is subject to rotation. Getting tight in my league and need your advice. Cheers chaps.

              I know I would be relying on att points, however I jsut don't feel particularly inclined to change my front 8 (I know people might suggest NZog or Hitz etc.
              My front 8;

              Lamp(c)/ Adam/ O'Hara/ YaYa (VdV)
              Drogba/ Balotelli/ Suarez

      Interesting re: NZogbia.

      Home = 3.8 ppg
      Away = 5.5 ppg

      Although he does seem to do quite well against the bottom teams, which could mean a good move ahead of Wigan's home game to West Ham followed by an away game to Stoke.

            But you make the mistake that a player with lower ownership is given a points advantage. - they are not

            RVP is the most on form player in the league, - he also has 2 good fixtures, just cos many own him going blindly hoping "im not going to get him cos others have etc" is setting yourself up to fail

            Also its less likely other players will even match him.

            So position in the league is largely irrelevant when picking players. You pick who will do well - or your best guess or estimation. The idea of copying rivals is irrelevant.

              I would disagree mate. At 50 points behind, he's got nothing to lose.

              Not having RVP could of course work against him, but by having someone else instead of RVP, it could work favourably for him.

              If I had nothing to lose, id go for the differential, but hey thats just my opinion!
