With the previous nine fixtures in gameweek 36 failing to return a single clean sheet, there were concerns that Fulham and Liverpool would play out a 0-0 stalemate. Liverpool had other plans however – they continued a barnstorming run of form under Kenny Dalglish, smashing five past the home side to chalk up 17 goals in the last 5 games. Fulham grabbed a brace to make it a poor week for defenders, with only tonight’s Man City vs Spurs clash left for any chance of a shutout. Here’s the notes from last night’s game…

Luis Suárez
The Uruguayan continues to dazzle since his January move, with another outstanding display for Liverpool in the Craven Cottage rout. With 65 points in his 11 appearances, he’s just shy of 6pts per game, a phenomenal return for his debut half-season. Suárez’s game is looked kindly upon by the Bonus judges, picking up 14 already. As far as Fantasy Managers are concerned, the only aspect missing in his game is penalty-kick duties.

As Kenny Dalglish acknowledged after the match:

“Suárez was fantastic. He was running as hard at the end as at the beginning. Even in our wildest dreams we couldn’t have thought he’d settle as well as he has done. He has graced the pitch every time he has stepped on it“.

Opposite number Mark Hughes also joined the Suárez fanclub in his summing up…

“I don’t think our guys have been up against him too much at international level, so it was a new experience for them and they’ll learn from it…He was always mobile, always in little pockets of space. Maybe we allowed him too much time and never really dictated to him. It was always the other way round and when good players have time and space, they can hurt you, which he certainly did. He was outstanding tonight.”

We were tracking Suárez in third place in our Watchlist rankings behind Peter Odemwingie and Robin Van Persie going into the weekend – all three came good to continue their outstanding run of form.

Maxi and Kuyt
As Suárez led the Fulham back-line a merry dance, the Liverpool pair continued their incredible recent scoring streaks. With Andy Carroll sitting on the sidelines, Maxi hit a hat-trick for his second 20+ FPL point return in three weeks, while Kuyt scored for the fifth game in a row, and has returned 84 FPL points in the last eight gameweeks.

Dalglish also gave positive news on his other big-name January signing, suggesting Andy Carroll only has bruising, offering hope the big striker may come back for the remaining two games (TOT,avl). Carroll’s return would see Kuyt move back into midfield, with Maxi favourite to return to the bench, a sign of an improving strength in depth at Anfield. In normal circumstances, Dalglish would surely be reluctant to tinker with his lineup and re-introduce Carroll. The opportunity to see the big number nine and Suarez working in tandem up front once more is likely to tempt him to shuffle however.

Fulham Already on Holiday?
Mark Hughes’ side have one of the best home records in the top-flight this season and came into this game with 6 wins, a draw and 6 clean sheets in the last seven at Craven Cottage. Mid-table safety with just a couple of games to go, however, can sometimes lead to lethargy and Fulham were deservedly three-nil down at the break after a poor display. The hosts only started playing in the second 45, when Bobby Zamora replaced Simon Davies, and at least matched Liverpool for goals after the break. To make matters worse, 5 bookings dented their hopes of Europa League qualification through the Fair Play League.

Mark Hughes will want a response after this thrashing but Fulham face two difficult last fixtures (bir, ARS) before the season closes. Fantasy Managers holding on to Fulham’s assets – notably Clint Dempsey, will likely be considering their options going into Saturday’s deadline.

The Maxi bandwagon is well and truly underway. 21,000+ transfers in already this week.

What is it about certain players though?

Ive a mental block about players like him, I know for sure he's never going to be my team!

Only thing I'm hearing about him is United are looking at making a bid in the summer. Cash + Berbatov, with Cash + Carrick being turned down by Spurs.

That would be a disaster for Spurs. If someone fancies forking out 40m for Bale then fair enough, losing Modric would compromise the team a lot more IMO.

    QUESTION...

I am currently producing a Zombie Land esk list of rules for next season..

    E.g.

1 - Never go chasing points the week after a player does well (unless they play for Liverpool)

2 - Always double check players fitness

3 - Always have a cheap def, mid, striker - to allow me to change between them (e.g. Odem to sturridge then back to Odem e.t.c..)

    And so On...

Do you think this is wise/ stooopid?

Any other suggestions/ Anyone else do this?

Yea I guess I do, I try and stick to a consistent strategy for the season then revise it for the next one. I could probably do a list of things that seem to work (or not) for me, but there's no one way of playing this game and I'd be rightly shot down for presuming to set myself up as any kind of authority on fpl, because I'm not one.

Jeez, anyone who captained drogba for the first 5 weeks, got a whopping 110 points from him. WOW. 😯

He was shit hot back then.

Only had him for 3 of the 5 weeks, and captained him but missed out on the first 2 weeks where his big points where.

It was all about Chelsea in the first 5-6 weeks. They were awesome.

I did really well in the first few weeks courtesy of him, felt so safe captaining him too, those were the days, this season has been more of a rollercoaster season for captains, RVP has been consistant of late without injury, oh how I long for the days of Ronaldo (C) 32 GW's of the year, and then you could focus on picking some differentials!

Opponent has Gomes, who saves a penalty, and Vidic coming off his bench for Nani, and I have Modric.

Not the kinda luck I need at this point in the season. Currently its 1 point difference (me ahead), but I wont be ahead after tonight's game unless Kolarov scores.

God that is annoying, argument would be that you should have a strong squad, but there is nothing more annoying than someone choosing a player over another, only to be rewarded with the one they didn't choose, rarely happens to me, I don't think I have ever had a 10+ coming off the bench, but I am sure I would love it if I did!

So going for Rooney out huh? I really don't know what to do with him, have held him for all of his 1's and 2's in the last few weeks, will wreck my head if he gets a good score this week.

How you doing overall at this point? 8 points seems a bit drastic where you are replacing at least 2 players who may play (Rooney and Lennon - Balotelli may also play if things are wrapped up but I understand why you are getting shot).

I am thining N'Zog and Suarez myself, for Rooney and VDV or Adam, can't force myself to touch RVP or Odemwingie for rest of season though, would love Drogba, but am going VDV OUT Lampard IN most likely this weekend,

I'm 45 behind the league leader after having lead for ages and a terrible DGW.
Is it crazy for me, in order to change my team away from his, to take an 8 point hit in both GW 37 & 38?
I think every player I'm bringing in could justify the hit but is it too many hits with no time to recoup if they are poor choices?

What to do with Rooney for this week? He's been playing his best football of the season this past month, without translating it into FPL points.

He's not going to play against Blackpool, so should I wait til after the Blackburn game and get Berbs in for him?

Or maybe Berbs will play v Blackburn after putting 5 past them in the reverse fixture, so I should do it this week?

Or go for someone like Drogs or Suarez this week?

People talking about swapping luiz for Alex in gw37 strike me as slightly insane!

There's no guarantee luiz will be dropped, but if you think it's likely and you want to sell him, surely it should be for a guaranteed starter! Swapping for Alex would be hilarious if luiz ends up starting.

Personally with 2 weeks left I'm willing to hope for some good luck with clean sheets and spend my last 2 transfers on attacking players. End of season games are rarely tight affairs because freedom brings goals and mistakes.

I have a feeling luiz will play. Against united ancelotti wanted a solid defence, but against Newcastle I don't think he'll mind having luiz who does link up well with midfield.

I think people are reading too much into it. If anything luiz needs these 2 low pressure games to build his premier league experience.

You just summed up exactly why I don't think he'll necessarily be dropped for 2 effectively meaningless games. What better way to settle?

But my post was about transferring luiz to Alex this week in fantasy football.

                Thanks for the info though!

Got to agree...I've been revising the Watchlist today. Luiz is out but, if you're considering a Chelsea defender, Cole or Terry look the only real candidates. There's no room for a no show at this stage.

Just watched the highlights on Sky Sports from the game Fulham v Liverpool last night. Suarez is complete class. Kuyt really should have scored at the end as well to make it 6.

Suarez could have had another goal and assist. He was man of the match really but with Maxi's hattrick he was always gonna get the 3 baps.

despite maxi's hattrick i thought there was a good chance suarez would get the 3bps. so yeah i thought he was rampant all night too. they made a meal of his goal though. shelvey didn't even get a mention for his pass

Shelvey's pass was ace. Dirk Kuyt't playing well but his luck was unbelievable last night. I suppose if you don't buy a ticket...

Would you rather have Odemwingie or N'Zogbia for the remainder..?

      Odemwingie.

Don't like the fact N'zogbia is getting subbed regularly, and atleast Odem has the security of penalties.

The man is on awesome form too. A goal in each of his last 5 games, and frankly i don't see that ending in either of the final two games.

i think the n'zog substitutions are pretty harmless. he got injured last game so came off early, then as a result missed a bit of training during the week and wasn't quite up to 90 mins against villa. i'm sure he'll be fine for 90 again this weekend

      N'Zogbia.

West Brom looked generally disinterested on Sunday, and Wigan will be scrapping for their lives. They also have easier fixtures IMO.

If you've got too much cash to spend and need a defender who might get attacking points... Johnson looked great for Liverpool v Fulham in attacking terms

He's obviously a gamble and overpriced but many of us have money in the bank.
