Double gameweek 36 comes to an end tonight, with a potentially decisive game in the chase for that all-important fourth spot. Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur knowing that a win will see them qualify for the Champion’s League for the first time. For Spurs only a win will do if they hope to mount a realistic challenge in the closing league fixtures.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and the team news is in…

Man City XI: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Zabaleta, Milner, De Jong, Toure Yaya, Adam Johnson, Silva, Dzeko

Spurs XI: Cudicini, Corluka, Dawson, Gallas, Rose, Lennon, Palacios, Sandro, Modric, Van der Vaart, Crouch

The home side drop Fantasy favourite Aleksandar Kolarov, who takes his place on the bench alongside Mario Balotelli and the returning Carlos Tevez. Filling that left-back slot is Pablo Zabaleta, meaning that there’s a place in the side for Micah Richards.

There’s also changes aplenty for the visitors, as recently calamitous ‘keeper Heurelho Gomes is left out, with a “back injury” being cited as the reason. Charlie Adam is the reason Gareth Bale misses out, opening a space for Wilson Palacios in a formation-altered Spurs side, which promotes the hugely popular Rafael van der Vaart up behind Peter Crouch.

Fergie won't risk it, it would be a big blow to their UCL final preparations if they lost to blackburn. He'll want to be able to rest everyone in gw38. Away form has been sketchy and blackburn is a tricky place to go at the best of times, even more so when they're fighting for survival. Rooney, hernandez, nani, valencia will all start imo. Get the point in the bag and leave blackpool to owen and co 😉

Bringing in N'Zogbia, now who to bench?
    Lampard A.Young VDV N'Zogbia Yaya
    RVP Odemwingie Sturridge
Other option is to bring in Suarez for Sturridge benching who I took out for N'Zogbia

wouldnt bench or sell sturridge. Bolton are up for the blackpool game to prove a point that they can win away from home. Kevin davies was tweeting about it, saynig they'd try to put on a show for the away fans.

      So sturridge could do well.

Everyone is saying how Young is a must sell, but really, how good is the Arsenal back line these days? Plus with Bent diving for pens every ten minutes or so, Young might score well...

I agree on Young. Few weeks ago my plan was to bring NZog for Young, but Young has done well while Jarvis has done little. Out goes Jarvis giving me no easy bench (except VDV who comes up with points when he looks like he's down for the count).

I have a similar decision between VDV and Young. I want to bring in N'Zog for one and bench the other one. I think VDV has the better gw 38 fixture, so bye bye Young

People suggesting man city will no longer play their strongest sides are wrong imo.

They have 2 ways to qualify for the group stages of the champions league... Catch arsenal or win a 2 legged playoff.

I know which they'd prefer! And their last 2 games come *after* the cup final, so they'll play the strongest sides available as long as they don't seem too tired.

"as long as they don't seem too tired" that's the point mate, if silva, yaya etc. started vs stoke in gw37 it would be their 4th start in 10 days and that at the end of a long season. They'll be feeling it. I don't think mancini will rest anyone because they've made 4th, he'll go for it as you said. But putting out the best side will mean putting out a side that's not too fatigued

Hi TM! Thanks for the explanation on my FPL Open Wildcard rule question yesterday. I just squeeked thru, 61 points to 60 (plus winning if it were a draw). It would have been a pity if I had scored the highest of the remaining players, but nonetheless got knocked out.

With regard to your comment on my retaining both Drogba and Rooney while wildcarding as they were playing each other. I really thought that at least one would score well, perhaps both. I thought that Chelsea would have to attack as they basically had to win, not tie. Also, if Chelsea won, then both players were basically guaranteed to start thru the end of the season. I didn't plan on them getting 1 point each. If you knew this, you should have told me!

Yes, in hindsight I could have changed things around in my front line of Drogs, RVP and Rooney, but it's only hindsight that's 20/20.

my team for gw37 (1.8 in bank)

    foster (begovic)
    rjohnson hangeland luiz (huth walker)
    silva vdv modric lampard(c) (wilshere)
    zamora RVP sturridge

his probable team for gw 37(33 points ahead of me)

    van der sar (foster)(?)
    rjohnson kolarov luiz (huth coleman)
    silva vdv modric adam (barton)
    drogba RVP sturridge

I need suarez I think but need two swaps to do it

    1. zamora > suarez + silva > nzogbia
    2. zamora >suarez + modric > nzogbia
    3. zamora > suarez + vdv > nzogbia
    4. wilshere > nzogbia
    5. wilshere > nzogbia + zamora > carroll

I'm thinking silva might be rested for cup and they are cert for champs league too and two spurs mids may still have something to play for right up to the end

gotta try and make my team as different as poss
he may bring in zog or suarez for drog or keep transfer for freebie in last week coz he is looking at catching someone in another league

          Sturridge had a great fixture.
Bent always pops up with a goal, especially against the tough opposition
VdV away to a blistering 'pool who all of a sudden can play for a Europa spot. Not playing VdV can be an 'undifferential' as granny said..

I really think putting the FA cup final on the same day united could win the title is very damaging for the FA cup's already dwindling reputation.

I remember when watching the buildup all day and then watching the fa cup final and i didnt even care that the buildup was complete rubbish - I still felt like it was a big day.

Now it seems no different to the league cup!

      Couple of topics for debate

      Will Nani start vs Blackburn
Will SAF give Berbatov a start against Blackburn and rest Hernandez/Rooney
After the league is lost now will Ancelotti start Torres against Newcastle?
Will Luiz start vs Newcastle after an apparent fallout against Utd?

      Questions ... Questions...

        3. No idea!
        4. I think so - he needs more prem experience and trhis is an easy way to get it - but a lot of people think he'll be dropped.

first names on your teamsheet (if fit) should be samba, ferguson, elmo, pennant, sturridge (the players he doesnt have)

Your transfer should involve losing one of his attacking players for someone you think could score very heavily.

I'd captain sturridge this week since it's a differential and he's against blackpool.

        You're obviously hoping for miracles!

if your aim is to 'get closer' rather than risk all to win - ignore my advice!!

You'll probably get further away if you follow it, but you have a small chance of gaining a lot of points!

You got so many of the same players. Gonna be almost impossible to peg back 83 points

My advice to you would be to get someone like lets say Nzog for VDV and hope VDV does nothing and captain nzog and hopes he scores a hattrick or something similar! Make sure you have Pennant not on subs next week too.

You'll have 3 and odd million in the bank to spare after that for the last gameweek then. Find out is gonna start up front for Utd against Blackpool and get in either berbs or hernandez and captain them again. Whatever u do, DO NOT WASTE ANY POINTS, just make 1 transfer then the 1 transfer again.

If NZog does a lot then ur Utd striker does a lot and his both flunk its at least dreamable.

Kenny never seems able to confirm if he's fit. Either Carroll finds it hard to get fit and stay fit, a la Arsenal, or it's just Kenny being his taciturn self.

well - i think park is saved for the games against big teams, so i can see nani getting the nod.

Also nani could be played over valencia, since fergie seems to prefer valencia for the barca game.

At least united cannot possibly be accused of playing a weakened team because of nani/ berbatov etc starting - so they represent an easy way to rest a few players.

oh and out of all the players who need to be rested - grandpa giggs must be priority to save those hips of his.

I feel for the guy that "raped" his own team after a disastrous gw34.

To recap my thoughts above... i've thought some more and i can't see any scenario where nani will not play the majority of both games.

Is Grandpa giggs going to play both? No chance!
Park? No way, he hibernates between big games.
      valencia? Doubt it.

Nani can cover for any of these guys (and it seems he isn't a priority to be rested for the barca game) so he should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Still does not make Blackburn any easier. Think I stand by my decision to roll a trade over. I would prefer waiting until gw 38 to get ManU cover.

yeah but to give a reserve a game over nani would be like a kick in the teeth for him!

If he does that it must be a sign nani is leaving - and if that's the case why not put him in the shop window?

There is a risk in rolling trade over. You might lose more ground on your rival and then come Gw38, there are no opportunities left.

mathematically, if u use transfer in gw37, you get its benefit for 2 weeks. But if u do in gw38, you get benefit only for one.

          Nzog ?? Fletcher ?
I am only thinking the relegation dog-fight and aggressive games

that risk is only true for someone who isnt happy with their current team for gw37.

I'm bringing in someone this week primarily because i have bale (injured) and balotelli (benched) as well as a dodgy defence. So i NEED to make a transfer!

We all seem to agree it's not worth risking trading defenders and I'm happy with my the rest of my squad this week.

True, but my rival has nani + Rooney(he wont sell him) and Im hoping Fergie rests Rooney.

Maybe things become a bit clearer after gw 37 and opens up an oppurtunity for me to get 2 ManU players that will outscore my rival.

            Stranger things have happened.

I agree though, Nzog/fletcher/Ba is tempting.

Got 2 mini league rivals to worry about now. Rank isn't as important. Rather drop 5K & win the mini league then come 2nd in FPL only to lose my mini league.

Maybe a little. Easiest way is not to worry about rivals and try to pick the best players which I have been doing lately. I have a little buffer now so an extra hit can be used to cover another differential just in case it explodes.

yep i definitely think the reason i'm now 80 points of my mate is that he went for differentials way too early!

The last 5-6 weeks he's crippled his team by avoiding all my players and hoping to get lucky with some obvious punts. Being ahead is an advantage for so many reasons.

Forget the defenders. Your current 7 attackers are quite strong this week. Sunderland are conceding so Elmo isn't a great choice plus Wolves have all to play for.

your team is in better shape than mine. You could save 2 transfers for gw38 - your team looks ok for this week and i think an extra attacking transfer would be more useful to you come the last week
