The penultimate Podcast broadcast of the season is dedicated to one of its most controversial Fantasy figures and features a Mark vs Granville barney of reasonable proportions.

A long-term apologist for the Aleksandar Kolarov’s lack of attacking end product (there’s no excuse for his defending), I find myself under a tirade of predictable flack as Granville dares to use common sense against my rock solid statistical reasoning. The very idea.

Anyone who has personally been angered/abused/mildly upset by Kolarov this season should certainly listen in and blame me 100% for your pain. If that isn’t enough to tempt you then you can also eavesdrop on the usual array of regulars, and witness the mini-league banter as the gap between Granville and myself narrows to just nine points. Nine points. Just nine.

Nine.

Is it foolish to take a 4 point hit for a defender?

My defence is weak this GW... Luiz, Walker, Salcido, Coleman, Huth.

Keep it or take a 4 point hit? Doing Yaya-> N'zog tomorrow as my free transfer.

not sure, Fletcher is on the back of some good performances but Sturridge has also, generally, had a good time with Bolton.

Additionally, Sturridge will play Mancity (next gw?) and there may be some thing to prove there (Andy told me this)

I'd say no, with your Walker and Simpson able to get 2 points each, but others need to look at defender situation over 2 weeks. For example, I wonder about Huth playing just one game and that's it.

can anyone answer this question for me .

I was talking at work today about how the FA cup feels a bit devalued these days, dont get me wrong am still exited about a few beers and watching it , but ever since Man U didnt play in it and every club just wants the champions league spot and now its not even at the end of the season it just doesent feel the same.
Someone piped up and said that its up to the FA how the champions league places are assigned and if they wanted to they could say one of the four spots could goto the FA cup winners. This doesent right as i thought it was Uefa who stated that it goes to the top four in the league ?

Your friend is right, it's up to the FA and not the Premier League to decide.

Giving a spot to the cup winner is a bad idea imo though as cup tournaments are down to luck and I want to keep the quality of the CL.

        Tack sa mycket Gargamel,
I know what your saying , but we are still only talking about 1 spot out of 4 . You could give the top 3 a place and the 4th goes to the winner of the FA cup. It would hopefully mean no more weakened teams and also return a bit of lustre to the Cup

I reckon your more likely to get a weaker FAC winner than a 4th place finish team. Traditions are out of the window now but cup winners always went into 2nd or 3rd Euro competition.

dont you think that its a good idea to gie smaller clubs a bit of an opportunity to qualify for a european competition rather than it only being a tournament for the big spenders. Whatever happened to being rewarded for your success rather than biggest/wealthiest clubs only.

i see what your saying but to be honest its more about the prestige of the FA Cup for me.
Its a bit of a nostalgia , jumpers for goalpoats moments for me. I just remember when i was growing up thats all people banged on about for weeks before, and although it wasnt as important as the league, it wasnt far off and it seems now that its not as important as 4th place any more

(stares off into the distance thinking about you used to be able to leave your front door unlocked and the Krays only ever hurt their own)

I agree. The league cup is now frowned upon so much that Wenger cant even be arsed thinking about his teamsheet and by the look of it the F.A. cup is heading the same way. Those competitions give the smaller clubs and their fans something to look forward to, cup finals and even different away games to the norm. Without that, there wouldn't be much else for fans like me to look forward to. We would all be as well supporting to top 4 or as it is in Scotland the top 2. How shite is that

This discussion ended an hour ago, but I've only just got in...

It won't happen, as in a few years the UEFA co-efficient for the Premier League would drop far enough for only 3 teams to qualify for the CL. So it's a complete non-starter.

He's got another 5 years at the club. He's the future, and there isn't a need to rush him back into the 11 after his injury, and given Liverpool are playing so well at the moment.

What message would it send out to the likes of maxi, spearing etc who are playing so well at the moment.

Yeah not great. Think he's trying to steer Jara on his outside and not give him the chance to go for a cheap penalty though, expecting the keeper to cover his near post. The last part of course being a bad mistake in itself, knowing the keeper.

They hadn't scored any until about half way through the season, and Kolarov had been injured throughout. I actually think Kolarov is one of the best set piece takers in the league, just the targets in the middle aren't good/tall enough!

His "awful defensive performances" have also been massively overstated. After all, he gave Valencia absolutely nothing at Wembley, and we all saw what he did to Ashley Cole at the weekend.

I'm glad I've won my mini league but christ the last few weeks and the ones coming have been boring. Must be a bit more exciting to be chasing, looking for that differential. My rank is sort of in a position where it's not TOO low (16,875), but it's also not great and I'm unlikely to climb too much higher over the next few weeks.

Because my mini league has been wrapped up for a few weeks, I've stopped planning transfers and been going for what looks ok for that week. Like my terrible Ward transfer in for Wolves last week. Guess he won't be playing this weekend?

Dont 8 point hits last 2 weeks, thinking of a 12 pointer this week

Young, VDV, Ward, Luiz out A.Cole, G.Johnson, Kuyt, Sessegnon in!

Either way I need to do something with my defence, it's a bit of a shambles for this week. I've also got Silva and Yaya, and although the game on Tuesday is a bit close to cup final day I don't see players being rested, especially if Arsenal don't pick up all 3 points!

I'm 19k at the moment, have a mini league still to play for but about 20-25 points behind so not given up but not really thinking about it much, just if I win I win, if I don't, no biggie.

Can see the final two weeks be quite tricky though, none of the big teams have great fixtures. Just hope I get enough to stay in the top 20k tbh.

Start to take a few more punts, makes it much more exciting. Went Modric (c) last week and also got Rodallega this week as my only transfer. 🙂

I'm thinking those transfers with Sessegnon (C), but I know I'll just play safe. For some reason it's in the back of my mind that I could still lose a 118 point lead.
