With a lack of motivation and a nagging threat of rotation, player selection for the final two gamweeks of the season is a minefield of uncertainty for Fantasy Managers.

At least the relegation scrap looks poised to go into the final gameweek. Although that’s not certain, the battle for survival has prompted a sudden shift in sights away from the high-priced heavyweights contesting titles and European spots, to transfer targets commanding more modest fees and clinging to Premier League status.

This is duly reflected in our Watchlist player rankings, available to offer our guide on the recommended acquisitions for the season climax and viewable in your right-hand sidebar.

With clean sheets so scarce and difficult to predict, it’s no surprise to see very little movement in the goalkeeper rankings. Joe Hart was the only beneficiary of a shutout in gameweek 36 and that helps him maintain the top spot. Ben Foster’s heroics at Newcastle earned him yet more Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Save Points and he should be guaranteed at least further gains in that area from his remaining fixtures.

Liverpool’s Jose Reina, Chelsea’s Petr Cech and United’s Edwin van der Sar are all expensive propositions but look secure and are perhaps the best remaining candidates for at least one clean sheet. Lower down, both West Ham’s Robert Green and Wolves’ Wayne Hennessey offer budget options that could surprise.

There will be a good few Fantasy Managers left patching their defence with injury doubts surrounding Robert Huth and uncertainty over David Luiz’s start for Chelsea. At this stage it’s clear that, when shopping for defenders, attacking returns are king. Everton’s Leighton Baines may not have favourable fixtures but there’s you can’t question his assist potential; he also remains on spot-kicks according to the noises emanating from Goodison following Mikel Arteta’s miss at Wigan. Bolton’s Gary Cahill – again with little clean sheet potential – hovers at our number two spot solely down to his threat at set-plays and propensity to earn FPL Bonus.

Below that pair, we have two players who should at least guarantee two starts over the final fixtures, with Chelsea’s Ashley Cole and Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel set to avoid any rest and rotation – Skrtel’s team-mate John Flanagan also looks likely to retain his starting role and remains a budget prospect. City’s Joleon Lescott follows next, although he could be subject to rest following Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Wolves’s Jody Craddock is a notable option – back in the fold at Wolves, he should be in line for two consecutive starts and offer some potential for a budget outlay. United’s Nemanja Vidic could be a trump card, but even the United skipper is not assured of two starts if he goes to Ewood and helps claim the point that would allow Alex Ferguson to rest players ahead of the Champions League final.

Moving into midfield and Frank Lampard holds top spot by virtue of strong form and the likelihood that he should avoid any tinkering from Carlo Ancelotti. Team-mate Florent Malouda is less secure and that doubt is enough to see him outside our top five that includes relegation battles Charles N’Zogbia and Thomas Hitzlsperger. That pair will face off at the weekend and both look well placed for further returns before the season is out.

Blackpool’s Charlie Adam is another player motivated by his sides’ need to cling to their Premier League place and that’s enough to see the Seasider stand above the City pairing of David Silva and Yaya Toure; they will both be exposed to the threat of rotation following Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Liverpool’s Maxi Rodriguez has been a vastly popular signing following Monday’s hat-trick at the Cottage but team-mate Dirk Kuyt is better placed. The Dutchman stays in our top five, pipping compatriot Rafael Van der Vaart. Kuyt looks guaranteed of two starts and will remain on spot-kicks – a role that has proved so profitable in recent weeks.

West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie holds firm as our striker of choice with form and fixtures to end the season on a high. Indeed, the top four remain unchanged here with Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez maintaining devastating form to make our selection task an easy one.

Wolves’s Steven Fletcher is the most notable name in the top echelons and certainly a consideration. With the motivation of top-flight survival and form showing four goals in as many gameweeks, the former Burnley hitman looks an assured budget option for those needing to free up funds and searching for a likely differential.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I can't risk selecting Yaya this week. There is no guarantee he will play 90 mins on the Tuesday after the FA Cup final.
I'm tempted to swap him for an Arsenal midfielder.

How is everyone for hitting/missing last years total?

Mine was 2088 in 09/10 - this season im on 1924 so im gonna miss by miles. But when I think about, it the rooney 64 points and massive DGWs made it a much more predictable season than this year.

The final point hauls of team shows the gap has closed all over the show, a nightmare for fantasy managers.

Yeah that chicorito who was world number 1 just imploded.

He had so much luck, captaining berbatov twice for 58 point hauls (when he scored 5 and a dgw) and captaining bale when he scored more than 2.

His team became a complete mess, poor guy

Kalou is always a risk with gametime, better options for that money.
Maybe try N'zogbia or Hitzlesperger (the West Ham midfielder?!)

But N'Zog seems to be carrying a long-term injury. He might limp off at any minute. Even during the warm up.

Anybody got up to date news about N'Zogs injury?

He went off last week as a precaution but still nothing has been confirmed about his availability this week.

I'm veering towards Gyan -> Sturridge. a sensible move.

that leaves me with a couple of mill spare and with Luiz's latest spat with Carlo, I am actually thinking of getting A.Cole in for the run. It would be for a 4pt hit mind. Is that a waste?

You have such a high rank that I won't bother wasting trsfr on Cole. Chelsea away to EVER in gw 38. I can see Everton scoring. Bite the bullet and go with the rest of your defence. Eventhough it's Coleman & Co.

well Alex is back now, so there is a risk of rotation. Luiz came off at HT last weekend, and the was some kind of communication btw carlo and him. not sure what though.

I say stick with Luiz till the bitter end. Don't think Luiz is that injured if at all. Hell, Carlo has given the hot urine treatment to one back this week already. I think he is playing mind games with the "overly optimistic" Luiz.

Which one of these guys to get in for Jarvis:

    1. N'Zogbia - on form, but injury concern.
    2. Hitzlsperger - good fixtures, bit hit and miss.
    3. Valencia - will he play both games?
    4. Someone else?

    SESSEGNON

I know I've mentioned him a little but here's my reasoning:

    -great fixtures
    -only Sunderland striker
    -16 points in 3 games
-Sunderland just beat Bolton away, hardly the lapse in determination people were predicting
    -1 extra point for scoring!

which generate goals! In my opinion playing against relegation battle teams generates goals both ways, just because they're trying harder doesn't guarantee a clean sheet as well. With Sessegnon the only striker, it's a damn good buy, everyone was considering Gyan and Welbeck for these with both of them on the pitch, now all of a sudden no one fancies it. It makes perfect sense to me, they won't just lie down!

    Hi all, 7 points behind my housemate and really want to catch him. My team this week is;

    Hart (Harper)
Luiz Elmohamady Enrique (P Jones Baird)
    Toure VdV Modric Nani (jarvis)
    Odemwingie Rooney Van P

My defence is a mess this week, was planning on doing one of my spurs players -> Nzog and rooney to suarez but then i can't get berba for last week.

    My opponent has

    Hart
    Luiz Vidic bardsley
    Dempsey Nzog VdV Adam
    odemwingie Van P(c) Zamora

    as his likely starting lineup

Any advice would be great, thanks

Like everyone else, I'm struggling to decide what to do this week. Second in my work league has caught up a 67 point lead and I'm now only one point clear. He has the momentum and a very strong team for this game week.

I have both yaya and silva and trying to decide which to transfer out for N'Zog. Anyone leading towards one or the other. yaya certainly looked tired the other night. So I think it will be him, plus Tevz is back and so may play deeper if he does play.

But the real Dilema, like everyone else again, is that I have Coleman, Huth and Luiz, all doubts for the weekend and suspect I may not field a full back line. In reality I should be sorting this out as I have Barton to cover either yaya or Silva not playing.

What are your thoughts please, patch-up the defence, probably with skrtle/flannagan, just focus on N'Zog, cause he is likely to score well. or even take a hit, but I'm only 1 point clear and feels a bit like suicide? Help.....Please
