Part two of our Scout Picks preview of Sunday’s season finale switches attention to the midfield, often the most profitable area of our squads this term.

While the heavyweight mainstays of previous seasons – Frank Lampard, Cesc Fabregas and Steven Gerrard – have proved unreliable, we have become increasingly dependent on mid-price midfield acquisitions, pumping our cash into a forward line where expensive big-hitters have delivered with some consistency. Our end of season Scout Picks selection is somewhat typical then…

The Midfield

Jamie O’Hara’s influence on Wolves has been substantial since his arrival on loan from North London. Early on, handsome Fantasy returns looked assured – two goals in his first five appearances for Mick McCarthy’s side suggested that O’Hara would represent a huge Fantasy bargain. While those expectations have been tempered by a lack of goals since, few can deny that O’Hara’s overall influence always puts him in the frame for returns. An assist last weekend made up for a lack of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus but, prior to this, O’Hara had returned 11 Bonus in his last 10 starts. If Wolves can carry their current form into Sunday’s crunch encounter with Blackburn and earn a positive result, O’Hara looks highly likely to reward his Fantasy owners with returns.

Charlie Adam’s season was turned on its head by a wave of speculation around the January window. It’s taken time for the Scot and Blackpool to recover from that period, but there’s little doubt that Adam has rediscovered his hunger and form at just the right time for the Tangerines.

The trip to Old Trafford presents a unpredictable scenario but it’s surely certain that Ian Holloway’s side will go on the attack – goals looks certain. Should the visitors penertrate what is expected to be a second-string United defence, Adam would seem likely to play some part. His set-piece delivery, assured spot-kicks and range of passing from midfield will surely be a factor, and having scored a rocket from open play in the 4-3 win over Bolton, Adam will have the confidence to fire in efforts on the United goal.

Charles N’Zogbia’s selection is no surprise – his form in recent weeks, culminating in his injury time winner to sink West Ham, has given Wigan hope of survival. The Britannia is far from a desirable venue for a do-or-die fixture but the Latics will arrive with optimism having earned the dramatic win over the Hammers. N’Zogbia is pivotal to Wigan’s attacking play and, should they emerge with a result, looks a firm favourite for yet more FPL Bonus having already gathered 33 points so far this term.

The final midfield slot goes to Arsenal’s Theo Walcott – a surprise selection perhaps, but a player who offers cover for the Gunners’ attacking potential at Fulham. Walcott has gone four starts without Fantasy returns having last notched in the 3-3 draw at Spurs in gameweek 33. Alongside Robin Van Persie however, Walcott is likely to be Arsenal’s major threat to the Fulham defence at the Cottage in a game which the Gunners need to win to have any chance of claiming third spot and avoiding the indignity of the Champions League qualifying rounds. Ten goals in the last 5 away trips suggests that Arsenal will find the net, despite Fulham’s impressive defensive record at home.

Tottenham’s Luka Modric came close to inclusion but I just don’t see Spurs returning too many goals at home to a Birmingham side scrapping for survival. Van der Vaart’s absence will come as a blow to creativity and, while Modric will likely be on spot-kicks, the Croatian has returned just 3 goals and 3 assists this term. He will likely require Bonus in a Spurs win to earn profits for his owners.

There’s much speculation about Alex Ferguson’s lineup against Blackpool, with Nani’s selection the key factor in Fantasy terms. Should the Portuguese winger start on Sunday, he would be backed for returns but his selection is far from assured having been omitted from Ferguson’s list reeled off in Friday’s press conference. Anderson is a certain participant however and, at just 5.5 in the FPL, he represents a punt for those looking for a differential – enough to earn him the slot on my bench.

Elsewhere, Fulham’s Clint Dempsey will be a major threat to Arsenal at the Cottage and could even be pushed up front with Moussa Dembele absent through injury. Newcastle’s Joey Barton will also be looking to end his impressive season on a high against the Baggies. Both players have been popular Fantasy signings over the course of the season and appear to warrant selection by their owners going into Sunday’s climax.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    a) VDV > Nani or Modric (4 point hit)
    b) Lampard > Modric & Ba > Tevez (8 point but gives me a front 3 of Berb, Tevez & RVP and a nice mid of Modric, N’Zog, Adam & Silva)

Those nice people at Sky Bet gave me a free £15 when I put a tenner on every team to score tomorrow. Gonna use the money to have a couple of alternative bets.

Which teams do people think won't score? Cheers. 🙂

Got cut off the end of the previous page.

    Begovic starting over Foster?

And would you start Luiz just in case he plays and let your bench defender come in or just put him on your bench in case he only plays a few minutes if he comes on late in the game?

Personally, I wouldn't be too fussed about playing Luiz anyway. Chelsea have only mustered 2 clean sheets out of their last 14 forays away from Stamford Bridge while Everton have scored twice or more in 8 out of their last 9 games at Goodison.

5/2 a Chelsea clean sheet is a bloody skinny offer. 5/1 is much more realistic.

I have a 33 point lead I need to hang onto, this is my team:

    Cech (Foster)
    Luiz, RJohnson, Hangeland (Coleman, Huth)
    Young, Yaya, Jarvis, Silva (VDV)
    Sturridge, Suarez, RVP

I was thinking of swapping VDV for Adam and Suarez for either Berbatov or Tevez - or both and get rid of RVP too

    Any advice?

    Current Team:

    Begovic (Foster)

    Hangeland Smalling Terry (Luiz, Coleman)

    VDV Silva Lampard Adam Kuyt

    Van Persie Ba (Ebanks Blake)

As VDV is out, Ebanks Blake benched and Luiz/ Silva are doubts I'm considering the following options, which would you pick?

    A) Ebanks Blake, VDV -> Berbatov + a 5m or less midfielder (probally Barton) (-4 hit)
    B) Ebanks Blake, VDV, Silva -> Berbatov, N'Zogbia, Modric (-8 hit and bench Kuyt)
    C) None of the above

Hello All...Trying to hold on to 38 pt lead in league with coworkers and beat my boss so I need to win for everyone. I am a first time player(I really have no idea what I am doing) and big fan of this website for past 25+ weeks and it has lead me to the top of the league!

    My team linked

    Cech (Begovic)
    Bardsley Walker LUIZ (Coleman HUTH)
    NANI Yaya Adam (NOLAN VDV)
    Suarez rvp(c) ODEMWINGIE
1 transfer 5.2 bank Maybe Only 9 playing

    Rival (Boss)
    Hart (Foster)
    Hanglenad Coleman VIDIC Flanagan Elmohamady
    Walers Nani Yaya Adam Meireles
    ROONEY Drogba Rodallega
    1 Transfer 1.6 bank

UPPERCASE not or probably not playing. I assume rival going Rooney-->Tevez/Berb

    Thinking
    A) VDV-->NZog and Odem-->Tevez for -4pts (34 pt lead)
    B) VDV-->NZog and Odem-->Tevez and Huth-->Hangeland for -8pts (30 pt lead)
    C) Other options? Berba seems pretty popular choice this week.
    Best opton? Any other thoughts?
    Thanks!

Option A looks good. I don't think I'd bring in Hangeland for a hit, I don't think Fulham will keep a clean sheet against Arsenal.

Can't see it happening. If you want to bring in another defender go for whoever you reckon is most likely to get a clean sheet; I'd say maybe Dawson or Evra (if you can afford him).

    Beg (Foster)
    Luiz, Vidic, Dawson, Walker (RJ)
    Adam, Yaya, Lamps(c), Silva (VDV)
    RVP, Suarez (Odem)

Any advice - thinking I am covered at the back, but need to change at least one of VDV or Odem ($1.6m in the bank). Any advise, can't decide

Awesome team. Keeper's a coin toss. I think you've probably got the right people on your bench but would maybe put Djourou before Silva unless we hear he's definitely gonna start. I'd probably captain Berba but it's probably irrelevant if you're trying to bridge the 90 point (+hits) gap in your mini league.

I'm considering RVP -> Berb (c) At first it feels crazy, but otherwise i'd have to take a hit to get in Berbs and i have no real capitan potential otherwise

Rest of the team looks like so:

    Lamps Kuyt Silva Walcott (VDV)

    Sturridge Campbell

I could downgrade VDV and upgrade one of Sturridge or Campbell.

Its funny though, because if I said that after GW1, people would think I was Crazy, literally.

In a style that really annoys me when other people do it...

Anyone care to click on my team and offer some advice...

Really good team and score, not much advice to give apart from maybe Suarez to Berba?

is nani meant to be playing 2mo or should i just go for berbs, im struggling for 11 so berbs seems sensible, but id rather play nani.

Huth, Pennant, and Etherington are going to be late fitness tests tomorrow. If they play, Wigan will be in trouble.

SAF named 6 starters and Berbatov is one of them.

Stoke would still pull it out 2-1.
