As we count down to the final deadline of the season, it’s time for another round of ‘Differential’ picks and it’s all about the one-week wonders. None of these picks are ever going to top the Captain’s poll but if you’re happy to take a risk or two, then there is nothing sweeter than an unexpected win. Can you imagine the look on your rivals face as your Anderson (c) pick helps you snatch mini league victory with a 93rd minute winner? He who dares…

Anderson

As entertaining as they are to watch, there is a very good reason why Blackpool are battling relegation. 74 goals conceded in 37 games is an average of two goals a game, which is quite frankly awful. In contrast, Man United have scored 74 goals in their 37 games. Statistics can often be misleading but in this case, they’re so blatant that it’s very hard to see United getting less than a couple of goals here, and Anderson could well be in the mix.

Alex Ferguson confirmed on Friday that Anderson will definitely be involved, and logic would suggest that he will line up as an attacking midfielder playing off the main striker. The game against Bolton last weekend demonstrated what can happen playing 4-4-2 against Blackpool; Bolton were overrun in midfield and it was only a tactical shift at half time that allowed Bolton back into the game. Ferguson will surely go with three in the middle then, probably as a 4-5-1 with Anderson behind Berbatov or perhaps 4-3-3 with him on the wing. Either way, he will play a key role in their attacking play and looks a great option for one week only at just 5.5.

Younes Kaboul

After their surprisingly easy victory over Liverpool last week, Spurs go into this afternoon’s match against Birmingham knowing that a win will be enough to guarantee European football next year. They’ve struggled defensively this season, but the clean sheet at Anfield last weekend will give them confidence going into what should (on paper at least) be a fairly routine encounter over a side that has won just twice on their travels all season.

Dawson is probably the obvious pick from the Tottenham back line but Younes Kaboul also offers a decent alternative if funds are tight, and his current role at full-back should see him get involved in the attacking play from wide areas considering Birmingham’s usual tactics of playing a narrow midfield.

Brett Emerton

Blackburn go into their final game of the season against Wolves with the threat of relegation still a very real possibility for both sides, and whichever way the result goes, we can expect an open game with plenty of chances. Brett Emerton might well be worth a punt if you are looking to free up some funds to use elsewhere, and with a goal and an assist in his last two games, he looks a bargain at just 4.2. The Australian veteran has hit a rich streak of form recently and Blackburn manager Steve Kean was full of praise for him this week…

“Brett is playing really well, not only is he chipping in with important goals, he is also going past people and putting dangerous crosses in”.

The OPTA stats back up this observation; he is the leading Blackburn midfielder in all of the key areas over the last two weeks – attempts on goal, key passes (assist attempts) and crosses into the box so with an ownership of just 0.9%, he could be a decent differential, especially if rivals have any Wolves players in their side.

Shola Ameobi

With Newcastle and West Brom both sitting comfortably in mid-table, lazy TV pundits are bound to trot out the old ‘planning the summer holiday’ routine but the truth is, the dead rubber matches like this one can often surprise. Both teams are in a good run of form and a potential ninth place is up for grabs with a win here. When you also consider that Newcastle have scored four or more goals six times at home this season, there is the potential of a big return.

Shola Ameobi has been blighted with injuries for the majority of his career, and although he has managed to avoid any serious problems this season, he’s been a bit too unreliable to merit any serious investment from Fantasy Managers. Long-term potential is irrelevant now though, so if you’re looking for a one-week punt on a striker, Ameobi will be on penalties and could prove to be a steal at just 4.1.

Best of the Rest

Almost making it this week was Stoke winger Jermaine Pennant, who has returned 31 points in his last three games. He faces a late fitness test but could still be worth a punt if you can handle the risk. Newcastle defender Steven Taylor also looks like a good pick having scored in his last two games, and is a good cheap option at 3.9 along with namesake Ryan. Finally, Zavon Hines could earn another start for West Ham having played 90-minutes last week, and will fancy his chances of scoring against Sunderland as the Hammers look to cheer the Upton Park faithful.

Morning .. I'm in the same boat with Luiz, huth and RJ in defence and VDV in mid. I have to hope that one of Luiz or Huth plays and RJ come in for the other. If not I only play ten at moment unless take a 4 point hit. I'm waiting on news today maybe... whos your captain? I'd do one of strikers for berb (c)

To champ - not sure why nani is more likely to be rested than valencia, park or rooney???

Surely nani has had more rest recently so doesn't need it. Valencia is more likely to need rest since he came back from an injury and has played a lot since then. If fergie could name one player he doesnt want to pick up a knock i think it would be rooney (and anyway rooney and nani dont compete for a place)

Guys, I have a 35 pt mini league lead and rival has taken 4 pt hit already.

I want to do Odem to Berbs and Silva to N’Zog for a 4 pointer, giving me a front 8 of:
Adam, Lamps, N’Zog, Hitz, Kuyt, Suarez, RVP, Berbs

Problem is, I am £0.1m short.

Should I do an 8 pointer or gamble on Silva playing and do N’Zog for Kuyt instead to keep it at a 4 pt hit?

Hmmmm so I'm sat here pondering. I've already decided to take one big punt this weekend with my transfer in and captaining them. and having the current defensive line of:

    Dawson
    Hangeland
    Vidic (Shouldn't play)
Huth (Doubtful, and don't see why Stoke would risk him anyway.)
Luiz (Quite possible he won't see gametime or pick up 1 point as a sub.)

Anybody see the sense of a 4 point hit with a punt on Fabio? as someone had mentioned earlier counter attacking heaven, could see him starting and bombing forward providing the width.

Dawson & Hangeland are fine. Fabio seems likely to play but I would go for somebody who is guaranteed to play and possibly score (again), i.e. Steven Taylor. Good chance of a cleansheet too.

I'm already having a big punt this week with the one league I was bothered about playing for pride in pretty much summed up (over 100 point lead). I think I can afford a punt. Hence I've already gone crazy and gone for Owen (c). I think Fabio could be another one and see where it gets me should I get some big time luck.

Ok, I have locked my team. Only question now is who should be my captain. Here is the line-up (currently thinking of captaining N'Zogbia) -- any recommmendations for a captain?

    Cudicini (Howard)
    Vermaelen, Zabaleta, Skrtel (Ivanovic)
Adam, YaYa Toure, N’Zogbia (c), Lampard, Anderson (Maxi)
    Van Persie, St. Fletcher (Carroll)

Again, thanks everybody for your help this season. See you next season.

i'm lucky enough to have a 40 point lead going into today, but my rival has said since before xmas that he was going to overtake me on the last day - i'd be gutted if that happened so am after a bit of advice here's my team:

    Hart (robinson)
Luiz, huth, hangeland (r johnson, walker)
    Kuyt, adam, n'zogbia, dempsey, nani
    Rvp, suarez (odem)

I have 3.1 in the bank so cant afford to do odem for berb and have no free transfers, so would you take a points hit to change anything?

I pretty much think anything over 25 points is virtually uncatchable today.

A 40 point lead over the team in first place is hard enough to achieve in a double gameweek, let alone a single one where all the top performers are narrowed down.

I'd take a 4 pt hit, your rival is pretty much going to have to anyway, and get Berbs and one other in. Even if your opponent doesn't take a hit its still a 36 point lead.

Look back over your league history this season and see how many times your rival outscored you by 36 points when it wasn't a double gameweek.

Ill need to take an 8 point hit to get berb in for odem, so...

        Odem -berb

        And

robinson -krul (to free up funds for first transfer)

Suddenly 8 points hit for berb doesnt seem that good!

Or I could leav oden and take 4 points hit for suarez to berb/tevez

The 2nd place guy scored 81 pts and caught up 46 pts on the leader. Anything is possible in this game, especially this week when the matches are at there most unpredictable. Just my opinion. Team strength if it's sidefire I.e. Players will defo play etc is the winner

Cheers - I fancy A (backed up unanimously on this infamous board last night). I do fancy Anderson to do something though. I'll toy with VDV > Anderson possibly instead of Modric (who I got rid off last week).

Hi Evs - mini-league won, no pressure on last day (which is nice). Might see a small rise up the world table hopefully. I'll ponder it...

    rvp to score one

    Wolves to win 2-0

Villa and Pool to be the highest scoring game with bent outscoring Suarez and Kuyt

    tottenham to win to nil

need help. Who to transfer VDV for?
    I have
    VDV nzog,adam, silva, lamps

    Rival has
    Malouda, VDV, maxi, adam, siIva

I'll have 11.3 in the bank after VDV is sold. Thinking O'Hara but will he score??? I'm really tempted by Sessegnon, he's being played out of position and will west ham lie down?

Keep RVP. Perhaps Suarez, although one or two rumours (I emphasise rumours) were flying about here that Sturridge might not play today - last day of loan deal etc. Difficult one.

Posted in the other thread, need more opinions..

9 point lead on rival. He has done 1 transfer so far

    My options

    1) Rooney ---> Berbatov
    2) VDV,Rooney ---> Walcott, Berbatov ( Because rival has walcott, rest of the team is pretty much same)
    3) Sturridge, Rooney ---> Tevez, Berbatov

    Which one?
