Theo Walcott will go into next season off the back of the most productive shift of his career. A total of 13 goals across 25 starts for the Gunners in all competitions at last begun to deliver on his much-vaunted potential as one of England’s brightest prospects. Those statistics could, and perhaps should, have been ever better however.

Snubbed in England’s World Cup Squad, Walcott had a point to prove from day one of last season and duly flew out of the traps, blitzing Blackpool at the Emirates in gameweek 2 with a hat-trick and following this up with another quality strike against Blackburn a week later. An ankle injury sustained in England’s Euro Qualifier against Switzerland then de-railed the Walcott express as the absence saw others take their chance – Wenger dropped Walcott to the bench on his return to fitness, bringing him back for an inauspicious return in the 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle. Further bench duty followed.

Walcott did not start another league game until gameweek 19’s 3-1 win over Chelsea – he took his chance in style, a goal and an assist offered a reminder of his early season devastation. Firmly back in favour, Wenger started him in eight consecutive league matches from gameweek 21 onwards. Further ankle problems kept him out briefly in March, before Walcott went on to start seven of the last nine.

Sadly, the early season form had deserted him in the second-half of the campaign. As Arsenal’s title charge whimpered, Walcott similarly backfired – he managed just 2 goals and 2 assists from gameweek 27 onwards, and he failed to add to his tally of 7 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points from that point. Despite a ninth league goal in the final day 2-2 draw at Fulham, Walcott’s season failed to live up to the early promise that hinted he’d be amongst the league’s leading performers and a huge Fantasy asset as a 7.0 midfielder in the FPL.

Key Factors

  • Barring injury, Walcott should enjoy more starts and further prolonged spells in the Arsenal lineup. There will always be fierce competition for places but, with Samir Nasri’s future still in flux and patience wearing thin with Andrei Arshavin, the smart money is on Walcott earning 25+ league starts next term. That should translate into another productive season – double figures in both the goal and assist columns should be a realistic target.

  • Walcott enjoyed a successful season but, while he started the season with a fanfare to bely his Fantasy price tag, like the Gunners themselves, he stuttered at the end of the season and, as a result, may not suffer a major price hike this term.

  • Classed as a midfielder last season, we’d expect a similar situation again. Although regularly employed on the flank by Wenger, Walcott can tuck inside when Robin Van Persie comes deep to dictate play and we’ve seen Walcott’s pace unlocked with great effect by searching through-balls from the Dutchman and skipper Cesc Fabregas. Walcott can play a central attacking role and has expressed an interest in doing so. Should Wenger shift to 4-4-2, we could yet see Walcott given more opportunities down the middle.

  • Arsenal’s opening half of the season looks extremely favourable; while the opening couple of fixtures look testing, things improve drastically soon after. Walcott started last season on fire and will be looking for repeat performances this term. Pre-season form will tell us more.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It would seem that Villa have made an offer for Foster...Guzan and some cash...Finally a move we were all hoping (expecting) for...C'mon...I need to know my first choice keeper is confirmed...

NOt sure I like the idea of foster joinnig Villa from a fantasy perspective. I want to take advantage of the AVL /QPR fixture pairing and I think he could be over-priced after last season.

Surely the villa keeper, even if it's Guzan, will be more expensive than what Foster started off on last season, 4.5m I think.

I'm worried he'll come in at 6.0 (a la David James for Pompey a few seasons ago), which makes him a bit pointless in comparison to Cech et al.

I won't be going for Bolton again after Jussi's season last year.

Alhabsi might be good for save points depending where he ends up. Robbo looks good if he comes in at 4.5m.

    Hi there

Now that the season has ended, your team, leagues and any forum messages will shortly be reset, as will all of the player values and positions where appropriate.

The new game will start around mid-July, although there is no fixed date as yet. You will need to select another team. However, your login details will remain the same. For league administrators there will also be an option to restart your leagues.

Look forward to seeing you again next season!

    Regards
    FPL

about the kvitova game (i also think she's the 'easiest' to call of all the women's quarter final winners)
she's 8/11 to win 2-0 and 3/1 to win 2-1. maybe bet on both, putting double the stake on 2-0.

    id numbers to go for:
number 1 - extremely hard to get and is it worth the effort of waiting like one of those freaks who camps outside the apple store for a few days just to get in first?

number 123,456 - now we're talking. more time to miss the opening of the game and still get involved. just keep checking back on the site to see how many people are registered then as soon as it hits 123455 BANG go go go. problem is if you miss it by 1 it's all ruined.

number 999,999 - this one is my favourite so far. the only downside is you could be waiting weeks for it to hit the number losing out on the chance to fiddle around with your side. if you have a second team then you're fine. as the early rush from the dedicated should have slowed down it 'should' be easier to get this number than 123456. if you miss this by 1 then you get 1,000,000 instead, not a bad compromise.

Looking back to find the 'RBJ Incident' (link appreciated if anyone's bored enough to find it), and I noticed some discussion of the Gold Cup/Dempsey/Hernandez ...

And since I know everyone wants an analysis 😉 >

Hernandez was Man of the Tourney, played like a man among boys.
Dempsey was the most valuable player for USA, he had a fantastic run.
Bob Bradley, USA coach, displayed a coaching acumen reminiscent of Balotelli putting on a bib.

*Must* be the doldrums of the FPL year when 'the Beyonce thing' gets typed on a footy site.

News of RBJ's departure has occurred before, erroneously. I hope the same is true now.

Yes, a misanthropic curmudgeon. Too many posters like he would be detrimental to the site ... but 1 or 2 help to say the things most are too polite to say.

Endless RMT's from people looking to get every freaking aspect of their fantasy team dictated to them by others can wear thin after a bit.

I'd love to see a permanent RMT post where people can go for that, without cluttering the regular chatter as much ...

I too would really like to know what has happened because I think RBJ is a legend.

If we ever have a Scout Reunion at a pub in London (or Portsmouth) then RBJ would have been the first one that I would invite.

Looking to emulate my top 500 finish this season (and improve if poss). Current loose thinking is something like...

    Begovic - Villa GK
Baines - Villa def - QPR def - Fulham def - Stoke def
Taraabt - Sinclair - Yaya - Sessegnon - A.N. Other (depending on budget)
    RVP - Rooney - Cheap/mid-priced forward

    Thoughts?

your defence is poor, your goalkeepers don't rotate, midfield is weak and don't have any Chelsea players, despite them having the best fixtures of the big teams to begin with.

Just looking at the first 5 gameweeks, rotation between Villa and Stoke is terrible.

          1- ful/CHE
          2- BLA/nor
          3- WOL/wba
          4- eve/LIV
          5- NEW/sun

While they alternate between home and away, their easy and hard fixtures don't.

Who want to see the lovely spreadsheet i was on about earlier? it's only taking me all day to do so i expect some good reviews!
It's pretty simple, all the tabs at the bottom for each team and who pairs with them best.

haha the first page was how it all started each team that is shown is the home team playing that week. I've simply broken the other pages down from that.

Also on the first page you will see there is 5 dfifferent colours but two of each, this is because they repeat so wanted to make them stand out.

It's all the teams who have home games. Ian has grouped the fixtures in colour-codes...so to take the GW13-20 colour, it means that if you have an Arsenal and Villa defender, they will always be at home in alternate weeks. But that won't be the case in the GW9-12 period.

It's useful for finding a match with your two cheapest defenders, for example. If you are very happy with your QPR defender for home games, you can see who is at home in alternate weeks to them and pick a defender to suit.

No but for the team tabs i put in the top 3/4 teams on that tab rotate pretty nicey for the season. For exampl if you go on Arsenals tab they rotate home and away all season, and other than 4 gameweeks they rotate with Blackburn and everton too.

sorry i know it looks complicated i've spent the entire day doing it and i'm glad to have it done.
The first tab just shows who is playing at home each week and the colour codes represent that those group of teams rotate each week.
all the other tabs are for each team and pairing them with all the other teams for home and away sequences. The parts that are filed in red means they don't roatate at that point.

so when you click on the tab for each team at the bottom it brings up an individual list. i'm guessing it's then the closer to the top the team is the better they rotate? e.g after clicking man utd man city comes out on top

Anyone like to hazzard a guess at price for De Gea if signs for Man Utd?

I'm hoping because of his age and relativley unknown status in PL he will come in 5.5 but i tihnk this could be wishful thinking considering his price tag...

Random idea of the day (for me at least):

Start with a Liverpool defender (6.0 maybe?) and transfer to an Arsenal defender (also about 6.0) before GW4.

    Gives a spledid set of fixtures with only GWs 2,7 (and later 10)needing cover, which can be done cheaply with a 4m benchwarmer from Swansea. Gives;

SUN, (WIG), BOL / SWA, bla, BOL, (STK), SUN, STK, (BOL), WBA, nor, FUL, wig and so on......
