The expected Arsenal exodus has begun with Man City this evening officially announcing the signing of Gael Clichy for an undisclosed fee – £7 million is widely reported as the sum involved.

The left-back joins the Eastlands revolution, signing a four-year deal after spending eight years with the Gunners.

The move comes after lengthy speculation surrounding Clichy’s future at the Emirates; the player was about to enter the final year of his contract and had previously indicated that he was unwilling to discuss new terms. Liverpool were also amongst the clubs linked to his services.

Clichy becomes the first player to slip from Arsene Wenger’s grasp with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri also expected to follow him out of the club. We may well see developments with both players in the next seven days; in the immediate future however, Wenger is surely likely to be looking to strengthen at left-back following Clichy’s departure. Newcastle’s Jose Enrique is a commonly reported target for the Gunners – he resumed training with the Magpies today with his agent remaining tight lipped on his future. Watch this space on that one.

Meanwhile, a full Scout Report on Clichy, assessing his likely prospects at City and his impact on the Roberto Mancini’s options will follow.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He is a fantastic player... Next Vidic... He played for my team ( Partizan Belgrade ) and even he is young he showed last season that he can play on high level ( against Shaktar and Arsenal in Champions league ) ...

So, Uruguay enter the Copa in 20 minutes. I expect them to be the ones to spark this tournament to life.

How come there isn't more talk about Cavani going everywhere by the way? He's had a smashing season. Less of a gamble than Sanchez also imo, he looks to have it all to me.

Napoli have slapped a ridiculous price tag on him. Far too risky to spend so much on someone who hasn't really proven himself in the Champions League or at International level.

That being said, City will probably get him.

I'd love to see Cavani at Spurs. Him or Falcao. The might take a bit of settling in, but if they did either could be an extraordinary purchase.

Incidently I don't see us getting close to buying either.

Would be great for the league to get either of those. I've honestly not seen that much of Falcao so I'm still unsure on him. Think Cavani would be a better fit and settle faster.

    Zamparini, Palermo president. (On Pastore)

"The favourites are Real Madrid and Malaga. Manchester City are also interested in him, as well as Manchester United and Chelsea. I'm sorry to let him go, because he is the only world-beater that I have had (at the club) as president."

    He never shuts up.

Malaga fans can look forward to bankruptcy inside ten years if they fork out on him. How can they even be in the race?

Have a feeling he'll end up in Spain, he seems like a smart lad and I think he's taking a far bigger risk if he goes to England.

He looks so weak to me, think he risks being eaten alive in CM in the Premiership. How does number of competitive games relate to risk anyway? 🙂

Very weak indeed, but in Spain there's only really Barca or Madrid and they don't need him. Malaga would be a risk! Atletico maybe with the Aguero money?

England wouldn't be a risk for him, more for the club who want to pay £45m for him! He could succeed in a free role at Chelsea.

You've convinced me you know more about him than I do.

I won't go too far into my initial thoughts about his chances to make it big, keeping in mind how I never thought Kaka would make it either after watching him as a youngster. That was a bad call.

I think it's only fair if a team like Palermo make a shitload of money when they have a talent like him.

Oh, and agents shouldn't be allowed to own players. I'm being old fashioned here I suppose but a player should be contracted to one club at a time and nothing else.
