Liverpool have today announced the club have reached an agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of Charlie Adam. The player will travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms and providing all is well, the deal should be completed before the weekend for a fee somewhere in the region of £7m.
Having been rebuffed in the January transfer window for the playmaker’s services, Kenny Dalglish was not to be denied and following months of Liverpool interest, a breakthrough was made in negotiations this morning. Initial reports suggest an arrangement is in place for Jonjo Shelvey and one yet unnamed Liverpool player to join up at Bloomfield Road on loan next term as part of the deal.
Adam’s capture comes hot on the heels of Jordan Henderson’s move to Anfield and offers the club plenty midfield options ahead of next season. From a Fantasy perspective, it somewhat complicates matters; while Adam offered superb Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns last season, much of his points came from set-pieces and it will be intruing to see how much -if any- he steals from Steven Gerrard.
With so many options in midfield, it may edge the likes of Raul Meireles nearer the exit door and with a move for Stewart Downing still very much on the cards, there’s likely to be further comings and goings at the club over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, a full Scout Report on Adam, discussing in detail his likely impact at Liverpool, will follow.
