The Premier League have confirmed to us this afternoon that their Fantasy game is in the final stages of testing for the new season but will not be going live today.

The game and site have been enhanced and, while things are almost complete, there are still some minor browser issues that need to be ironed out before the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) site can launch.

We can take this opportunity to dispel a number of rumours that have cropped up in recent days and confirm that all is well with the FPL and that the game will be free to play. There are also a number of significant improvements that we feel will be greeted with a very positive response from players and, in particular, our community; having voiced strong opinions on certain features of the game, you have helped influence some of the changes introduced.

We will endeavour to bring you details of those changes and any update on the release date. One of the benefits of our new relationship with the FPL is that visitors to Fantasy Football Scout will get information and enjoy a two-way relationship with the game organisers. This means that once the game is released and the new features announced, you can rely on us to feedback your reactions to the changes.

Hang in there folks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

😯 its all over SSN news, without sounding ungrateful for the fact we are spending the cash, it's the 3rd "meh" signing on the summer for us, not particularly excited by any and I'll be pretty annoyed if Villa buy Nzogbia for about half the price!

Will be a good signing for you I think if he keeps up last seasons form.

Not really sure where it leaves Villa though. Last seasons 2 best players gone in one summer, bet their fans are happy

If I was a Liverpool I would love the Downing signing... A severely under appreciated player. Barney Ronay had it right the other day.

Aye. If they're going to play Caroll, which at £35mil, you'd expect them to then they need to play some wide men. He was good last season, probably Villa's player of the season. In a better team he may look even better!

I've long thought that Barney only writes/says stuff to get a reaction be it from AC Jimbo, Barry, or just the general public. He's very adept at it, but I hardly ever think he actually believes what he writes.

His writing M.O. is definitely along those (and humour) lines, but I felt, perhaps wrongly, that this was a more straight 'defensive' piece with his normal flourish/tone thrown in of course.

I'm not just defending Downing because I refer to myself like him in my twitter tag either. He's a very good, assured player.

Im not doubting his quality, I thought he had a good season last season but call me crazy but I'd rather have gone for Nzogbia, Downing is a reliable player with good delivery and I'm sure Carroll will be loving it and it makes those two both more appealing but he doesn't really get you going, Nzogbia or similar has that unpredictability capable of winning games on his own, I think Suarez has a bit of that too but I felt we needed more that than another steady Eddy. I'm probably being ungrateful especially after the seasons of uninspiring Rafa signings and id probably be happy if it was our first signing of the summer but the Hendo & Adam signings weren't ones to get u going either, plus that's probably our spending done now.

I definitely don't think we're done. We're still probably looking for a centre back, possibly another wide man and definitely a left back. I agree that N'zogbia is a good player, but he's not the hug-the-touchline crosser that Downing is. N'zogbia wouldn't bring out the best in Carroll, he prefers to drift inside and have a go himself.

Yeah maybe another CB and LB another wide man tho?! Can't see it. I don't think Nzogbia does hug the line but also has good delivery but also trickery and I still think he can get better, I doubt Downing will much, but I do, as I say think he will be excellent to get the best from Carroll, with Adam on some set pieces too.

predicting the liverpool starting XI is going to be a nightmare. kuyt normally always finds himself in the side, as does a fit gerrard, as does suarez, as does a fit carroll.

I'm not sure I will. Did have him at the end of last season but that was when Caroll wasn't playing much. Will have to wait and see how they line up but with all these new players I'm not sure how appealing he will be.

Then again, he is class so could be worth a shot when Liverpool's fixtures are looking good.

Suarez may not play until September. He's not really had a break because of the Copa America, and won't have a full pre-season because Uruguay have just advanced to the knock out phase. He and Lucas will be used sparingly or not at all until a few games in. Lucas might play at the start if Brazil go out.

Might be time to go old school and think about Gerrard if he can stay fit.

If Liverpool win, he'll be in bonus at least. And he could be back to around the 11mil mark this year.

I posted this earlier but everyone was too busy bathing in self-pity at the thought of their secret society going public...

Just looking at the Mail (urgh) FF site. Don’t think the explanation of substitutions in particularly transparent (well, not to my eyes anyway).

“You can bring your substitutes into your team at any time before the first scheduled kick-off each day. This means, you can get best value out of your 15 man squad to maximise your chances to score points and best of all, it doesn’t use up any of your transfers! You can swap a substitute with any player in your team, provided that it creates a valid team formation.”

To you, does that mean that you can bring someone playing on Sunday off your bench to replace someone who played on Saturday and add to the Saturday points or replace them?

Replace like the World Cup FF game I think. So if Fabregas gets you 2 points on Saturday and you sub him out for say Silva on the Sunday but you lose Fabregas's 2 points and just get whatever Silva gets

Serious advantage to getting players playing on both Saturday and Sunday too, to give yourself more options.

That could be the best way to spend your trannies in that game. Having two chances to get a score for a given position is a hell of a advantage.

This site is all about interpretation. I wouldn't of hesitated to give the site details to anybody in my leagues who was interested enough. As said by others, those being precious on here about it, just need to step their game up and stop being such sheep themselves...

I would say though, if there's gonna be increased traffic, surely it's time to look at changing the comments system to a forum or something. I can only imagine the 50 pages of "rate my team" comments we're in for 😀

      Caroll was a t(aaaaaaa)ad stupid,

Henderson, well I guess we'll see. We spent nearly the same on Jones, both young with potential.

Adam - big fan! But not really sure Liverpool needed him, or that he's good enough for a big team like that.

Hahaha no problem SD. Hoped to spark a discussion about Rafa - I love those.

I'm actually half serious, I do think he would have signed better players for that amount of money.

                  wtf?

It's too early for me to judge him on this stint - he was obviously a very good manager in the nineties. Signs are there that he's screwing up this time imo.

Rafa has accomlished more than Dalglish as a manager and that can not be disputed, so it's incredibly harsh to say that Dalglish is twice the manager Rafa could ever dream of being.

So far Kenny has signed 2 players who have played for the club properly, Carroll who's barely had a game so it's hard to judge, the other being Suarez who's been immense, so far not so bad. Pretty unfair to judge him on the 3 transfers this summer till they play for at least half a season. Kenny has to be praised for giving the likes of Kelly, Spearing and Flanagan a run (who've all played very well) whereas Rafa would have continued playing the useless foreign shite that he would have bought. He pissed off Alonso by trying to sell him to pay for Barry for god sake, that's inexcusable!

andy85wsm - That he's paying so much for players I'm unsure of on positions where they have cover.

Goose - Yes absolutely. I did try to say that it's too early to judge him. This is all what I think will happen, and that is that Liverpool will not take the top4 spot back in the upcoming years.

I like that I'm getting some reactions here but I'm not really on a wind-up. Let's compare.

Rafa has won 2 La Liga titles, 1 Champions League, 1 UEFA Cup, 1 FA cup

Dalglish has one 4 English titles and 2 FA cups

Is the latter really twice as good as the former could ever dream of being? I understand that you like Dalglish for what he did with Blackburn which was incredible.

I know it's easy to say now but i'd have been amazed if Liverpool wouldn't have won a european trophy during that time in the mid to late 80s.

Anyway i think it's safe to say i rate Dalglish considerably higher than rafa (but maybe not twice as good) and i also don't think it's fair to say that "Rafa has accomlished more than Dalglish as a manager and that can not be disputed"

Maybe when the ban first came in yeah, you're probably right. But Liverpool won the league in 1985/86, 1987/88 and 1989/90 so i think it's fair to say they were affected!!

He got a few of them wrong but also a few of them right. Dalglish will be remembered as the worst playersigner ever.

Why is it again that everybody hates Rafa so much? I'm deeply saddened that he's not in management at the moment. He's a great character and a great manager.

Rafa is an ultimate bellwipe who plays the biggest load of drudgery soul destroyingly crap football.

Agree that Dalglish is a similarly shit playersigner, well he was for us anyway and has made some questionable moves so far in his new regime.

Rafa was a bit too pragmatic for his own good at times, Liverpool actually did play some great football in certain games under his regime - when he thought it was the right way to do things.

He was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too negative, here's a nice Daily Mail (sorry) article on his signings.
                  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1221975/Rafa-Benitezs-229m-spending-spree-The-76-players-signed-Liverpool-managers-reign.html

In the Pro column I would have
                  Skrtel (£6m)
                  Torres (£20m)
                  Mascherano (£18m)
                  Lucas (£6m)
                  Kuyt (£9m)
                  Agger (£5.8m)
                  Renia (£6m)
                  Xabi Alonso (£10m)

                  The rest are pretty poor.

Yeah. Garcia did a good job as well imo. And Sissoko. And definitely Arbeloa.

Some of them were absolutely shocking too - Kromkamp, Nunez, Morientes, Gonzalez, Josemi, Fowler, Leto, Voronin for example. Not bad - shocking.

So if the Mail is accurate with its £229m estimate it can be said that Rafa spent 35% of his transfer kitty wisely.

It was a spectacular performance. They tore them apart.

Rafa had probably been better off playing some more attacking football rather than being defensive and trying to grind out results

yeah he was a bit of a grinder. a bit on the fence with him. the fact is he's won la liga with a team not called barcelona or real madrid and he won the champions league and got to another final too.
for anyone thinking he won the champions league with a draw really think about that statement, if it's anything more than united/everton banter then you can have a facepalm from me.
i think half the problem was he wasn't that likeable personality wise, football wise he had a crap season, not much else

Yes. Liverpool had to sack him unfortunately - their fans demanded it and that season was a bit too bad.

People will also say that both Barcelona and Real Madrid were not at their best when Benitez won his TWO La Liga titles it's still an incredible achievement. It's not impossible that that feat won't be eclipsed in the next 20 years. Oh and he won promotion twice from the Segunda division with lesser teams too.

I guess I just don't understand why he's so badly liked personality wise. I think he's funny.

Then again, I'm a bit boring as I basically like every footballer and manager ever, except a dozen or so.

Which reminds me of the funniest thing my girlfriend has ever said...

Whilst a few friends and I were watching MOTD a few years back. I have Toores as capt and Liv win a penalty. I didn't know the scores. I start lauding up the fact that Fernando was about to bag me 8 more points. But then Dirk Kuyt steps up...
Me: Why the bloody hell is Kuyt taking the penalty? Why isn't it Torres?
Girlfriend (peering from behind Heat magazine): Maybe Torres has got Kuyt in his fantasy football team.

Downing for £20m. I like it.

Liverpool overloaded in MF and Villa now seriously weakened. Need as many weakened teams as we can get this season. Feel sorry for Bent right now.

To open old wounds, let me see if I understand ...

Some are unhappy as to these FFS events because -

a.) They will lose some 'advantage' gained by being a reader here.
... Huh. Some game to play, one where you need/demand an advantage.

b.) The site will become 'too commercial' (spoken, no doubt, with a beret on, goatee, and cigarette clutched backwards between thumb and index finger).
... Seeing as how many/most of the features are still free > meh. "But I want to seem Indie and avant garde" bleurgh.

c.) The increased traffic will lead to too many copycat teams.
... And the 'form' filter on FPL doesn't do this? Lessee, 1.2 million people Captaining Kolarov on Jamsie's wum? Ha!

I've played FPL for 4 or 5 years, a reader here for that time, as well. This year my first as a member, as much to support the site/Mark & team/the lively footy banter. My 12.50 amounts to 3 pints down at the bar (about an hour's worth) ... for 12 months of footy footy, footy (and some cricket. >sigh<).

    Rock on, Mark.

Still think Meireles might go ( 🙁 ) so I look at it as Gerrard Lucas Suarez Carroll will all play with Kuyt Downing Adam & Hendo mainly fighting for 2 spots, 4 into 2?!

    I can actually see a 5-3-2 / 3-5-2 on the horizon:

    —--------------------Reina---------------------------
    -----------------Kelly Skrtel Carra------------------
    Johnson Hendo/Adam Lucas Gerrard Downing
    ------------------Carroll Suarez----------------------

Just can't see Kuyt being dropped tho, confused.com

        ------------Reina-------------
        Kelly Carra Skrtel Johnson
        --Gerrard Lucas Meireles--
        ---Kuyt Suarez Downing---

Carroll Hendo Adam etc on the bench.

Meireles is a difficult one to place given his relative fragility. However, he's got a great eye for goal and lends good squad depth. I like this formation, with Johnson pushed forward. Perhaps that's why we made an approach for Bastos? Have both of them as wing-back types?

With us playing that a couple of times last season and as u say the Bastos approach that's what I was starting to wonder. We have big squad but let's face it, Gerrard will get injured, Adam i don't think will be starting week in week out so if Hendo is taking Gerrards spot then Downing has just been added as another option.

I can't decide who's going to in The Apprentice. It's between Helen and Susan for sure.

There's always contestants like them in every series. Helen, the one who wins all the time, but then Sugar will say something like she's too robotic or blah blah blah.

Then Susan, gets through because she's achieved so much at a young age but then doesn't win because she's so young.

Either way, I reckon he looks to the right when he says "you're hired" which is Jim or Susan. So maybe he'll go with the young'un.

I think the difficulty in the Championship is that there are rarely many standout teams. Most years, it's more truncated than the prem. So unless you're QPR or Newc, then you're gonne be beaten more times than you might think and by teams who aren't ever challenging the top half.

No, I'm not saying they were weak teams then. Just pointing out how differently things can go for teams. I'm a Burnley fan and remember thst season well. We missed out on the play-offs by a couple of points and I thought that would be as good as it ever got for us.

Grrrrr this gets my goat... Why do people put QPR in this bracket? Of the last 10 Championship winners they're 9th on the list (I think) of total points scored.

This is not a grudge, well done and well deserved promotion (Warnock did a great job), but they weren't THAT good.

I wonder if Liverpool would be interested in Gibson. Good player, crucially plays in central midfield. Hell of a shot. £10m? Bargain.

If he hadn't been a Manchester United player chances are they would. And we're not talking 10M here, make it 15.

Unfortunately, he's not British. Otherwise I would have been reasonably happy to drop £25m on him.

I know it's the mirror but still.

United chief executive David Gill is understood to have agreed terms with representatives of Wesley Sneijder, who will earn £190,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

Nope. Berba hasn't started a big game since fergie realised we never win when he does. (Liverpool doesn't count, they were in freefall under Woy). Young hasn't even played yet! and Tony V is just a bloody hero, so you can't have Nani i'm afraid.

madness to directly blame it on the berb imo, just one of those things and he's an easy scapegoat. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7808369.stm
a fan of valencia but slightly bigger fan of nani. his criticism that he can't run backwards (not literally, you know what i mean 😉 ) doesn't wash with me. chelsea have anelka or kalou there for example, barcelona have messi and alves on their right. fabio and nani could surprise people imo, on paper it looks vulnerable but that's largely a myth now imo. as long as nani can keep possession and score and assist is what matters for me and he's at least as good as valencia in that department. valencia's more likeable and more 'solid' so he'll always win out i imagine

I'll start tonight and will wait until at least gameweek 10 before I write him off for this season too. That's fair. I've actually been far too nice on Anderson for the last six months.

cheers king eric, I think his signings are pretty much geared up for that. He's pretty much brought in young home based players so far possibly looking at the bigger picture, downing, carroll, henderson and charlie adam all are good prospects for that however I would question the transfer fees he's had to pay to get them.

Downing has always been one of my favourite players since he was at Middlesbrough. I celebrated when I saw the fee was agreed on the BBC website - I think I need to get out more.

Hoping he will prove a lot of people wrong. The Opta stats being floated around make for great reading.
