The speed at which a certain Mr Torres went from irreplaceable to “Fernando who?” in the eyes of Liverpool fans can mainly be attributed to the displays of Luis Suarez. Arriving at Anfield just as El Niño headed south to Chelsea on the final day of the January transfer window, Suarez wasted little time in establishing himself as an Anfield favourite with a series of scintillating performances in the second half of the season.

Coming off the subs bench for his debut at home to Stoke, Suarez grabbed a goal in a 28 minute cameo that, despite a lack of match-fitness, hinted at what was to come. After missing out on an away trip to Chelsea the following week, Suarez started the final twelve games of the season for Kenny Dalglish’s side, missing only eight minutes of action from gameweek 27 till the end of the campaign.

A virtuoso display in Liverpool’s 3-1 home win over Man United in Gameweek 29 particularly caught the eye as Suraez tormented the eventual champions on his way to picking up 2 assists and 2 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points for a 10 point haul haul that saw him resultantly leap onto many a Fantasy Watchlist.

Whether he partnered Dirk Kuyt or Andy Carroll upfront, his menace to opposition defences saw the Uruguayan finish the season with 68 FPL points from thirteen appearances, averaging over five points per game as Liverpool just missed out on a place in the Europa League.

Key Factors

  • Suarez’s game is clearly suited to scoring highly with the Bonus judges. A look at his stats in our Members Area illustrates just how influential he is for Liverpool and it reflects in the 14 Bonus points awarded over seven of his twelve starts. At home, in particular, Suarez stood out, picking up Bonus in five of his six Anfield starts.

  • Liverpool’s form under Kenny Dalglish gives definite cause for optimism. Prior to his January arrival, the club’s record under Roy Hodgson read (P20, W7, D4, L9 25pts) and, despite one point from his first two games in charge, Dalglish led the club to (P18, W10, D3, L5, 33pts) with a run of games from gameweek 24 to 36 that saw them win ten and draw two of their fourteen games. Under King Kenny, they beat Man City and Man United at home, while winning at Chelsea and drawing away to Arsenal.

  • Liverpool have a kind run of home games to start off the season (SUN, BOL, WOL, MUN, NOR, SWA) with only the Man United clash looking tricky on paper. Having won the corresponding fixture last season, Dalglish’s men will hold no fear going into the game. Currently starring in Copa America 2011, Suarez may end up playing late into July but has moved to dismiss fears of burn-out, assuring Liverpool fans he’ll be fit and ready for the new season.

  • With just half a Premier League season under his belt, it seems unlikely Suarez will be priced in the same bracket as more proven top-flight forwards such as Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and -despite the uncertainty over playing time- Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres. While the above-mentioned quartet should come in around 11.0-12.0, Suarez looks more likely to be around the 10.0 mark and will, more than likely, not even be the highest priced player from Liverpool, with Steven Gerrard still leading the way there.

  • Liverpool’s sixth place finish last season may prove to be a blessing in disguise for their league aspirations this coming campaign. With no European football to clog up the fixture calendar, Dalglish’s side can fully focus on the Premier League, meaning less possibility of rotation and more chance of his squad being fresher from one gameweek to the next, in comparison to their top-flight rivals.

Hernandez is a huge rotation risk as well, plus fixtures are not great early on. And even Hangeland, won't get the same CS's under Jol that he did with Hughes. Maybe it's a very different scoring system, but I doubt it.

the 2 players per team rule is much harder than i thought. if you think gibbs is a bargain you then can't have fabregas and walcott. plus with 30 transfers for the season it will make it even harder.

Apparently Villa have bid £9m and not £10m, which Whelan is looking for. He said they rejected the bid for 2 reasons: 1) because they want to keep him; and 2) because if they sell they want £10m.

Kinda contradicted himself a bit there

DW has admitted N'Zog will be sold but is sticking to his guns on price. There were also rumours that N'Zog wanted more cash than the £60k a week Villa were allegedly offering. Key point here - Whelan need be in no rush at all over this.

There are plenty of potential reasons why. For example you have no idea how that bid is structured. Who's to say it isn't in installments over x number of months/years? Maybe DW just wants £10m straight cash deal

Nothing slow moving about it - that's what makes the show work; taking the time to develop the characters so when something incredible happens, you feel it 10 times more than if it were on 24 or something more 'pacey'...

First episode was great, hit the ground running... I've only got 4 more weeks and then I move to New Zealand - they better have internet there!

Some of my mates have set up a metro one but I can't be bothered with more than just the FPL one.

May do the Sun this year though simply because it's free with the same prize

F**k you FPL you bunch of f**king lazy c*nts! I am sick and tired of refreshing the f*cking page day in day out only to find out its f**king down all the time!! You have let all the hardcore FPL players down with your silence on the issue and you don't even have the courtesy to put up a small column on the current site stating the new site will go live on some f**king day and listing out some of the new features for the new season FFS over 2,000,000 people play the damn game you retards you can't be this irresponsible.

Sorry just wanted to let my frustration out.

    Rant over.

Well considering it is development upgrades and they're/we're dealing with developers, just be happy you get that much. Hell I'd much rather wait than to see all kinds of bugs put the gw1+ in ill repute. If we all like our cute little mozilla patches and add-ons as well as specialized script to work not to mention just basic functionality as well as capacity I say pipe down and stop ya bitchin...

get your metrosunskymail on for now and work out your bugs, because most of us will abandon them when FPL is up and running.

Thanks for making UK democracy look like a joke and allowing Murdoch to get some sympathy.

Consider freelancing for a while if you can afford the risk - build up a portfolio off your own back, you'll be looked favourably upon in future as it shows dedication, endeavour, and development of project management skills. You might need to do some free work up front, but it can be worth it. Succesfull freelancers are the ones that get themselves known... sort out a good site, get your social media going, and find out and attend local networking events.

I'm a java software developer and I did the 6 month unpaid route to get some experience and get into the industry... I always say it was one of the best decisions I made and I would whole heartedly say do the 6 months unpaid. It'll get you to where you want to go and not hating your job everyday... Also sits really well in an interview when you tell them that you worked for free to get experience!

I agree with the theoretical position that everyone should be paid for their work.

However in an industry in which internship IS normal practice, and where there are lots of graduates for every job - it would be more consistent for you to advise taking the internship if it's in the field he enjoys. It will further his chances of getting the job he wants more than working in a different field. In this field, in this country, at this time: it's unfortunately normal.

You say nobody should work for free or work doing something they don't enjoy - he's therefore in catch 22. His options are work temporarily for free in a job he likes, work for money in a job he doesn't, or don't work at all.

Your situation is very different to that.

do you really think not having a salary as a graduate is going to kill you over the long term? You earn so little money as a grad and you've been studying anyway so you won't miss the money... I have 7 years of experience now and I earn a shit load. Are you trying to tell me it was a waste of time doing 6 months for free to get to this point? It's not like you know that much when you've just graduated anyway!

I agree with you Bobs. I know a lot of people who've landed good jobs by doing an intern stint, and in certain fields now there's little choice given the shortage of jobs and surfeit of graduates.

Your talking as if the lad hasnt done anything thus far.

The idea you need to someone "earn" your way as some office rat in certain industries is vile.

And when your home after being used as the carpet of the day you can look forward to nothing in the bank.

If this is the world people want to live in then cut out the time wasted in school, Uni etc , enter this experience at 16 while living with your parents.

Or you could not accept to treated like some form of meat and pursue something of value in an industry where your treated with value.

Most places want 2 years experience though. I suppose i'll just need to get lucky after and build up contacts while doing the internship.

thats exactly what happened to me... also some places want 1 year experience and if you can show that you're as good as a 1 year candidate with your 6 months then you should be fine. 6 months vs nothing is a big difference....

I agree with your advice that it's worth doing an internship for free for 6 months, as you'll likely benefit from it later on, but almost any office job can provide worthwhile experience if you make the most of it, why does he suddenly have to stay there the rest of his life?

i shall be doing my M.Sc at the university i graduated from. i assume rolls royce have ties with my uni.

If you go down the intern route, then show massive keen-ness from day 1 to be involved in all areas of the business and any projects. Ask to attend interal and client meetings. Get chatty with the big bods at the business and build up friendships. Get to know how the industry works. I've seen so many interns turn up and sit there listening to their ipods all day, glued to the screen, and hardly talking to anyone. It is such a waste. GET THE MOST OUT OF IT!

The idea that someone who has spent nearly 20 years working and studying should then enter a workforce and not get paid based on a tradition of it in certain business to exploit desperate young immature people who will do anything for a foot in door is wrong on so many levels i dont know where to begin.

I agree that it's wrong but that is the way it is now. The whole EMA thing is a joke. Paying kids to stay on after GCSE's means they don't have the need for a job. After that some go to Uni. And then they graduate and BAM! No experience.

It's like Charlie Gilmour who swung on the Cenotaph flag and the morons who smashed up Charles and Camillas car on the same day as the student protests.

        Utter, utter f*cking morons.

+ lots mvt and your first point, had the Murdochs on the rack, and end up with the committee apologising to them, what a pillock.

As time went on committee lost total control to the point where Murdoch made his own statement.

They are still scared sh*tless of him and nothing will come of this.

There defence was "its wrong but i dont know who did it".

Still though will make never getting Sky again an easier choice.

They bring in millions and millions to this country in tourism and trade deals that we wouldn't have without them. The money spent on the royal family is a fraction of what they bring back to the country.

They a complete non starter and actually false position. Ive read numerous rebuttals to this.

The tourist comes to see the palaces, pictures etc. Not actually meet the royal family. More over the money needed to house them is substantial.

This argument is dated and not factual. Besides even in a world where this was a economical starter which it isnt it should not take precedent over democratic grounds.

There are far too many middle age traditions in this world. No need or basis for them cos of tradition.

Doubt that happens, he just signed a three year deal. He must not be that pricey.

I'm afraid he'll spend this season wallowing on the pine at the worst. Not sure about VladimirWeiss though, he was TRYING to boss the field, but just came off as selfish. A more interesting prospect for them looks like John Guidetti, who, upon first view came-off as a goonier version of a working wing like Milner. But he really impressed me with his skill an agressiveness.

Yes, the Vancouver pitch was horrible. The Whitecaps were actually a very good team w/ a couple new additions.

Assuming RVP is mandatory and you need one cheapish striker to balance the books.

For the 3rd spot...Bent or Suarez?
