Yes folks, it’s the day (night) we’ve all been waiting for. It’s here. Finally.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has opened its doors for season 2011/12.

After a few false starts last week, with the new look needing one or two final tweaks, everything is now in order and we can begin to pick our squads ahead of the big kick-off on the 13th of next month.

So waste no more time and head on over to the Premier League official site to begin picking your fifteen.

We’ll have a further round-up of some of the prices in a little while but in the meantime, put off your bedtime for just a while. FPL is back.

Oh, and in case you are all wondering: Aleksander Kolarov is priced at 6.5. Don’t all rush at once, now.

    am I the only one thinking prices are fine. It seems people had a list of players in mind that were 'first name on the teamsheet' material and are shocked that they have been priced accordingly.

        It's the same every year.

        Defences are pretty cheap again. Not many big defenders over 6.5.

        I think the prices are too much, but every start of a season I am thinking the same, how we can put together team with that prices, but after some tinkering we'll work it out. But Lamps in his age and last injury season is too expensive. He should be like 2008 11.0m

        But so be it.

    Thinking about initial strategies for next season already.

    Here’s probably what I’m going to do. Using examples from this season.

    2 cheap rotating goalies (Robinson, Harper, Mignolet, Begovic)

    1 expensive defender (Baines, Kompany, Vidic, Alex)
    1 mid-price goal threat defender (Huth, Hangeland, Samba)
    2 playing defenders for mid table teams with nice alternating fixtures, probably a cut price Liverpool full back and/or OoP prospects (Flanagan, Kelly, Coleman, Bardsley, Enrique, Walker)
    1 playing cheap as chips 3rd sub defender (Evatt, Jara, Simpson)

    2 midfield lynchpins (Gerrard, VDV, Lampard, Fabregas, Nani, Silva)
    1 mid price “differential,” probably will choose according to fixtures (Dempsey, Nasri, Bale, Walcott, Downing)
    2 value mids, one probably very cheap (N’Zogbia, Adam, Barton, Albrighton)

    2 big strikers (RVP, Tevez, Suarez, Rooney, Drogba)
    1 punty mid priced striker (Jones, Carroll, Hernandez if less than 9.0)

    That will definitely be possible budget wise, and it’s strong for rotation. Hopefully, I’ll have enough funds to get a massive attack. It’s going to be hard to choose between RVP, Tevez, Rooney, Suarez and Drogba/Torres. Will have to see pre-season form, fixtures etc.

      Weeeeeeeeeell yes and no. He doesn't score many goals or owt. Decent cleanie potential though and a reasonable chance of BP, especially he is now correctly classed as a defender.

    The new FPL design seems black and white except for the pitch and shirts. :S

    I actually prefer the old one, couldn't they at least make it look decent like the Champions League/World Cup/Under 21 game they are perfect. Can't believe they delayed so long for this under par design.

    If the EA Index is anything to go by, Van Persie isn't going to be the bonus point magnet he once was.

    We're going to see defenders and hard working mids get their fair share of baps this season. Great stuff.
