Chelsea find their feet and rack up the goals, with Frank Lampard -significantly playing on the right of the central midfield three- opening the scoring in a 4-0 romp.

New boy Darren Pratley stakes his claim for a mid-price starting berth in the Bolton midfield with his second goal in three games for Owen Coyle’s side. Victor Moses warms to the N’Zogbia wing role. Mario Balotelli enrages Roberto Mancini with an impudent back-heel when clean through on goal and is substituted straight away.

With just three weeks to go, we’re beginning to get some handy pointers with would-be first choice players now starting to earn more pitch time and formations perhaps resembling those on show on August 13.

Our pre-season guide has been fleshed out with all the latest results, with our team news notes now filling up with insight on form and lineup trends.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think I'm set with my midfield

    Lampard, Taarabt, Sinclair, Moses, Albrighton

Just heard that Nzog is off to Villa so Moses is a must.

That's awful. Apart from Lampard, that's pretty much closing your eyes and crossing your fingers.

Taraabt, a worthy risk on his own perhaps
Sinclair - as above, but having them both is pushing it.
Moses - Best out of a very bad bunch. I can see Wigan getting steamrollered this season.
Albrighton - Good enough, but I don't think he's gonna get consistent enough results with the other guys.

Your strikers are probably amazing, but if you change nothing else, I'd at least downgrade Lamps to a ~10m player, and upgrade one of the other mids to a ~8m

I just dont see any value in midfield this season. Lampard will score points as always. The rest are just in it for the rotation.

The big hitters like Malouda, Walcott etc are too expensive this season imo. I got Moses in because Wigan's first three games are just taking the piss.

Albrighton was fantastic last year and I was amazed that he couldnt get more starts last season(because of Young and Downing)

Sinclair and Taarabt are by far the best players at their teams and could easily become the new Adam. They also scored goals for fun last season. Sinclair plays as a striker I think. Yes, they could turn out to be the new Dorrans also.

Does anybody know how man free-kicks Albrighton gets? Considering the new rule with assist for free kicks and N'Zogbias left foot, this could make the difference.

Ironically enough of a difference to not buy N'Zogbia 😛

    Morning chaps!

This is my hundredth iteration, but first time I've asked for a comment on it.

    Given / Kenny
    Clichy / Kompany / A Cole (Brown / Simpson)
    Taarabt / Malouda / Y Toure / Moses (Sessengon)
    Suarez / Bent / Rodallega

I've doubled up on Man City defenders as they kept the most clean sheets last year. A Cole is in as Villas-Boas likes attacking wing-backs. The plan would be to play those 3 defenders almost every week.

Suarez will be changed to either Carroll, or Van Persie (by downgrading A Cole) if it looks like he won't play the first game or two.

I may change Simpson if it looks like he's not going to get in the first team. Likely to Orr and switch Kenny to Al-Habsi.

    What do you think?

So quick question based on Nzogbia's planned move to villa.

If he goes which is better
    Nzog
    Bent

I'm figuring that if Bent scores, an Nzog assist is likely. Having Nzog instead of bent frees up cash to enable me to upgrade VDv to Lamps with no hit week 2.

Having Bent - guarantees me goals.

    hmmm..any thoughts?

VDv and Lamps is not possible. VDV at home against Everton is a far better prospect than Lamps away at Stoke I think.

then a quikc change. But I do think you may have a point. Experience shows that its tricky to play transfers at the start...all sorts of horrors could happen to the rest of my team.

there's probably about a 1 in 3 chance that n'zog will assist a bent goal whereas there's a 1 in 1 chance bent will score a bent goal. it would be unfair on albrighton and ireland to think otherwise

    Given (ruddy)
    Kompany, Jags, Rafael (Orr, Simpson)
    Lampard, Downing, Wilshere, Sinclair (Tiote)

    Bradley Orr:

having watched him every week for 6 or so years at bristol city i think im in a good position to judge him. i would be absolutely shocked if he made it in the prem as although hes a '100%' type of player he just isnt good enough and will get found out when playing in a struggling team. also he wont offer much as an attacking force as his shooting and crossing is awful.

i would advise people not to include him as i cant see him holding down the RB spot all season and u dont want to have to waste a transfer on a cheap defender so id advise picking someone gauranteed to play longer term

I know I'm in the minority who feels like this, but N'Zogbia's move to Villa forces him out my team. At Wigan he was everything, the player who all the play was focused.

He'll now share the responsibilities for assists with Albrighton, goals with Bent. I see a decrease in his fantasy haul.

Rodagella was more than able to put away what N'Zog put in.

N'Zog's points came from 9 goals and 7 assists (would like to know how many of those goals were free-kicks, penalties?). That's the same number of assists as Albrighton, who played a lot less football.

Anyway, its just my view on it, and it frees up a spot for me. But I'm now reassessing Rodagella with out his favourite wing...

Rodellega has a pretty piss poor scoring record the last year or so in England.

More often than not N Zogbia was the only outlet in the Wigan team.

          Watson took penalties for Wigan

Albrighton is young, will prob take no set pieces and hasnt proved himself in the league yet. He is also not a great winger yet not does he get many goals or assists.

N zogbia is a French International on set pieces, with goals and assists over a number of years in the league, i reckon he wont be long at Villa before a bigger club comes knocking.

          Albrighton - 1800 mins, 5 goals, 7 assists.
          N'Zogbia - 2785 mins, 9 goals, 7 assists.

How many pen did N'Zog score last season, Bent will be on pens for Vila.

N zogbia 0 pens, he was also injured for a portion and suspended. Not to mention him being in a poor team struggling to survive who didnt score goals.

Dont see the appeal in Albrighton when N Zogbia is only 1mil more.

You're missing the point, even if N'zog was injured for part of the season, he still played just under a 1000 more minutes and tallied the same amount of assists. Villa were also a struggling team last season...

Villa struggled defensively last year. They still kept scoring and scored well.

Wigan were poor all year. A player in a poor team will struggle if the likes of Di Santo are relied on.

N zogbia had to do things on his own more often than not -he also got a bucket load of bps which nobody seems to be mentioning and will probably be on all the set pieces (bar pens) like he was at wigan

Albrighton on the other hand played in an attacking team which scored alot more goals and created alot more than Wigan.

The minutes are not as relevant. Take a look at Messi's record for Argentina v Barcelona.

And there's 2 sides to saying N'Zog was playing with crap players - yes he'll have more support and better assist conversion, but he also won't be a big fish in a small pond hogging all the play any more.

Loving Dbronaldo saying Zog missed minutes through suspension when the numbers are right there

His suspension came at the time of a nice run of fixtures as I recall. Thus he missed out on more chances to do well. This was my point re the suspension.

too many other punts this season. RVP has to be the best arsenal choice.
