Cesc Fabregas will play no part in this weekend’s Emirates Cup with Arsene Wenger admitting at a press conference this afternoon that the Spaniard is “unsettled”. The Gunners skipper has been out of action this pre-season with a hamstring injury but Wenger’s comments are perhaps the biggest hint yet that Fabregas’ future may lie away from Arsenal. Speaking ahead of the weekend’s Emirates Cup, Wenger said:

Fabregas will not feature in the Emirates Cup. He is not settled, with his injury and his situation. That has to be sorted out soon. Cesc is torn between two loves. I can understand that but we want to be certain about his commitment.

The comments further fuel the idea that Fabregas may finally be ready to return to Barcelona and with Nicklas Bendtner also looking likely to join Gael Clichy through the Emirates exit door, the Arsenal boss should have a considerable warchest to re-invest in his first-team squad. Wenger did, however, seem much more optimistic on the future of Samir Nasri, for the upcoming season at least, saying:

“My wish is that Nasri stays. I’m convinced he is going to stay at Arsenal.”

If this scenario pans out, Fantasy managers will be looking to Nasri as the midfielder most likely for Arsenal next season. Priced at 9.5 to Cesc’s 12.0, Nasri would see plenty cash left over in your Fantasy budget and with Wenger also confirming Abou Diaby will be out for around ten weeks, Gunners midfield options are short on the ground. Aaron Ramsey comes into the equation, perhaps, and priced at 6.5 the Welshman would be Fantasy gold if he takes over the role as chief creator next term.

That’s a situation that seems unlikely, though; if Arsenal lose their captain, Wenger will surely move to boost the ranks in light of such a blow. The Gunners boss admitted he’s in the market for players ahead of the new season’s kick-off a fortnight tomorrow:

There is only one deadline, it is on August 31.The other deadline is for us to get everybody focused, the players who are really committed to the club, my energy and my focus goes on them. That is what I focus on, I cannot help the other situation, because it does not only depend on me. It depends on the players and on the other clubs.

A move for Valencia’s Juan Mata has been mooted for some time and over the last twenty-four hours, the Spanish club, intriguingly, have secured the services of Sergio Canales on loan from Real Madrid for the upcoming season. While Canales could certainly play alongside Mata in La Liga in 2011/12, speculation is rife that the move pre-empts the player’s move to the Emirates over the next few weeks.

I like it. It's a pretty team. Not much to recommend. Maybe downgrade Rooney and upgrade Sinclair?

Good GK combo. Simpson/Bramble rotate well, As do Hughes/Alcaraz. Presumably Kompany is an ever present. The midfield is the worry. You just can't tell if the new boys will pan out or whether Sessegnon will come good - that said Sinclair/Taarabt rotate well. Silva's a good selection, although I might try to find an extra 0.5 somewhere (downgrade Zamora maybe) to bring in VdV. Rooney has been brilliant preseason and RvP will score whether Fab stays or not. I like it.

Okay, got a pretty good idea of my basic team for now.

    Given, Ruddy
    Huth, Kompany, Baines, Ward, Briggs
    VDV, Nzog, Moses, Sessegnon, Dyer
    Rooney, Dzeko, Zamora

2.0 mil in bank for upgrades

My back 3 will probably play every game unless one of the other two have an easy game.

My midfield is no where near set in stone and could change daily, but I think Sess and Dyer are there to stay

Rooney and Zamora are probably pegged on, only Dzeko is in limbo ATM

So there we go, let me have it!

I don't understand spending 8.5 for Dzeko when he is not a nailed on starter, esp when you can spend 1.0 more for, say Suarez. As to the midfield, is this the 4.5 Swansea Dyer ? If so, are you going to rotate him with Moses ? That's the only reason to have 2 cheap complete question marks I guess. I might also find someone who rotates with Huth because Stoke are typically crap away from the Brittania. Oh, I don't see Briggs getting anywhere near the starting lineup once the games count. So, I think a bit of work to do still.

    Okay, RMT (a first draft!):

    Given - El Habsi
    Baines - Kompany - Simpson - Wilkinson - Hughes
    Etherington - Hoolahan - Sinclair - Yaya Toure - O'Hara
    Rooney - Bent - Carroll.

Lack of a choice of Captains is what's bugging me, as is the Carroll punt! Thoughts please!!

Downgrade Bent or Carroll and improve the midfield, perhaps by replacing Toure with the likes of Silva/VDV/Malouda etc.

Stoke have tough opening games and Etherington may no longer be their best FPL option anyway.

Struggling to get a front 3 I'm happy with...

Bent-Carroll-Zamora ATM, have 2mil in the bank, but think I really need to upgrade my def with 1mil... Thoughts?

Rooney has looked good during pre season, carroll looks set to have good supply in the form of downing,Adam, Suarez and co so should have plenty of chances... And bents always stable... I'd like rvp but he is injury prone and what with cesc as good as gone wondering how he will fair!

I think I'm losing it, had 'the team' at least 10 times. Could do with an opinion however good or bad :0)
    3-5-2
    Given/ruddy
    Rafael/Kompany/Cole (Hughes/Simpson)
    Silva/Downing/Benayoun/N'Zog/Moses
    Aguero/Rodellaga (Graham)

3.0 In the bank to bring in VDV, Roo or RVP in GW4 or Malouda for beny if Chelsea become more predictable. Defense feels good, Mid I'm OK'ish but up front it's a punt!

    RMT ??

Ah, when in Rome. I'll be honest, I'm an awful fantasy league player, as this may well show:

    Given (Ruddy)
    A.Cole, Kompany, Riise (Assou-Ekotto, Simpson)
    Malouda, Silva, Taraabt, Jarvis (Sessegnon)
    Bent, Zamora, Rodellega

All tips for a newbie very welcome - have tried to take some of the comments on here into account! In my view it take the teams with easier starts into account. Thanks in advance!

I quite like it still not convinced with Malouda despite his recent popularity is he really a definite starter? Not sure about assuo ekktu either doesn't always start if bale plays left back which he sometimes does and perhaps try to get either Rooney or RVP in attack as they both look like the're going to have good seasons
