Cesc Fabregas will play no part in this weekend’s Emirates Cup with Arsene Wenger admitting at a press conference this afternoon that the Spaniard is “unsettled”. The Gunners skipper has been out of action this pre-season with a hamstring injury but Wenger’s comments are perhaps the biggest hint yet that Fabregas’ future may lie away from Arsenal. Speaking ahead of the weekend’s Emirates Cup, Wenger said:

Fabregas will not feature in the Emirates Cup. He is not settled, with his injury and his situation. That has to be sorted out soon. Cesc is torn between two loves. I can understand that but we want to be certain about his commitment.

The comments further fuel the idea that Fabregas may finally be ready to return to Barcelona and with Nicklas Bendtner also looking likely to join Gael Clichy through the Emirates exit door, the Arsenal boss should have a considerable warchest to re-invest in his first-team squad. Wenger did, however, seem much more optimistic on the future of Samir Nasri, for the upcoming season at least, saying:

“My wish is that Nasri stays. I’m convinced he is going to stay at Arsenal.”

If this scenario pans out, Fantasy managers will be looking to Nasri as the midfielder most likely for Arsenal next season. Priced at 9.5 to Cesc’s 12.0, Nasri would see plenty cash left over in your Fantasy budget and with Wenger also confirming Abou Diaby will be out for around ten weeks, Gunners midfield options are short on the ground. Aaron Ramsey comes into the equation, perhaps, and priced at 6.5 the Welshman would be Fantasy gold if he takes over the role as chief creator next term.

That’s a situation that seems unlikely, though; if Arsenal lose their captain, Wenger will surely move to boost the ranks in light of such a blow. The Gunners boss admitted he’s in the market for players ahead of the new season’s kick-off a fortnight tomorrow:

There is only one deadline, it is on August 31.The other deadline is for us to get everybody focused, the players who are really committed to the club, my energy and my focus goes on them. That is what I focus on, I cannot help the other situation, because it does not only depend on me. It depends on the players and on the other clubs.

A move for Valencia’s Juan Mata has been mooted for some time and over the last twenty-four hours, the Spanish club, intriguingly, have secured the services of Sergio Canales on loan from Real Madrid for the upcoming season. While Canales could certainly play alongside Mata in La Liga in 2011/12, speculation is rife that the move pre-empts the player’s move to the Emirates over the next few weeks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Yeah it's a tough call between RVP and Rooney. I agree. I don't like having no United.

Interesting Camzy. I know you considerably out-performed most last year, so I'm loathe to criticise, but I don't like Luiz (rotation), Briggs (rotation) or Dyer (rubbish).

        Fair points.

This isn't a completely set team by any stretch.

Luiz and Briggs' situation needs monitoring for sure, and if it becomes doubtful either of them will start, they're out.

Ruddy is the best choice to partner Given for fixtures.

Scarily similar to my team -

      Given, Ruddy
      Baines, Kompany, Bramble, Simpson, Orr
      Lampard, N'Zogbia, Sinclair/Barton, Taarabt, Moses
      Aguero, Suarez, Zamora

      🙂

I like it, personally I'd downgrade Sessegnon by .5 and then upgrade the useless Dyer.

Not sure RVP is worth it until gameweek 4. Liverpool and Man U aren't the greatest fixtures

I'm not upgrading Dyer unless Moses is godlike gameweek 1.

Need a bench sitter not a rotation headache.

As long as he plays and picks up 2 points in case of emergency, he'll do fine.

The only problem there is you might miss the boat.
Moses will play in N'Zog's position, if hes going to score big, it will be in one of the first 3, then you can get shut of him if you wish (he should make money too with a good first week).

I won't miss it. He'd be there for price rises alone. So if he tears it up GW 1 (I wouldn't have played him anyway...) I'd just leap on board the next day with an early transfer and lap up the price rises and his next two fixtures before getting rid.

I don't like Lampard because there are no other options in his price bracket. He's also potentially playing deeper, and for 12.0, I'd rather invest in a striker with more options available like Rooney, Tevez, Aguero etc.

I currently have Bent Roo and Zamora up front. If I downgrade Lamps I can get Aguero in, but that is a bit of a risk without knowing where he'll play, as a target man or in a partnership... Was considering Dzeko if he would be in a partnership, fancy him over Crazy Mario

Looked more closely. I only need a keeper until gameweek 9 when I roughly plan to get a Sunderland keeper to rotate with Given.

The games Given would want to sit out are covered brilliantly by Ruddy until then.

Ruddy would cover Villa's away fixtures (eve, qpr, mcy) with (WBA, SUN, SWA).

If you downgraded Luiz to a 5.5 defender (Samba, Dunne, Gibbs etc.) and upgraded Dyer to Sinclair (who rotates good with Taarabt, i.e. no benching dilemma)... I'd like it even more. But I do like it.

I don't like rotating attacking players.

        The reasons are:

        - Attacking players tend to be the ones transferred in and out more frequently, so you need them to deliver when you get them, and that can't be achieved by sitting on the bench/rotation.

        - Attacking players, especially good picks, have a knack of putting up big unexpected point hauls in tough away games, especially penalty takers. You'll want to have them playing every game in case, and with the funds, that's money used to improve your starting XI.

    Some stats on Leighton Baines.

    Points per game overall: 4.7
    PPG when Arteta played 60 mins+: 3.8
    PPG when Arteta didn't play 60 mins+: 6.5

Looks like if Arteta is out then Baines is a good pick, otherwise meh.

definitely not complete coincidence since we can't deny that baines gets all the set pieces when arteta is injured.

i've got baines because the worst case scenario he is still worth at LEAST 6.5 million (Barring injury or everton conceding every game) and the best scenario (pens, freekicks, BPs, crosses and everton keep more clean sheets than last season) he could be worth 10 million easily

Not sure yet, depends on who plays with him or whether he plays alone. If it's the latter, will definitely be looking at him. If the former, I'd get his partner as he likes to play feeder, not target man

Why couldn't Aguero have been 10.5, I'm now .5 short of my perfect team. Not sure where to downgrade to fit him in.

    Which of these sounds best?

    Cole-> Ivanovic
    Bramble/S.Taylor -> 4m
Tchoyi -> Moses (I'm not fond of this move though, I'm very unconvinced by Moses and I hate having Wigan players)

Apart from a lack of captain choices apart from RVP, Hughes position potentially threatened by Senderos and Blackburn's difficult opening fixtures I reckon it's pretty good.

Although Fulham appear to have the 2nd easiest start, there's only 2 of their opening 10 games I would put money on them winning. Villa have far better fixtures and are more worthy of investment imo.

Norwich have some peachy home games and so I am surprised not to see Hoolahan in many RMTs.

OK, so Sinclair and Taraabt rotate nicely, but I remember I didn't pick Charlie Adam last year because he didn't rotate at all well with Carroll and they both smashed it early doors.

Punting on Wes and Danny Graham, FTW (whatever the f**k that means..)

no, as a guide line x20... a good 4.5 player should get about 90 points a season if he plays close to 3000 mins.

Almost anyone will get 90 points in 3000 mins so just pick someone you think will start every game
