Jose Enrique looks like following Joey Barton through the St James’ exit door. Sir Alex Ferguson talks up Phil Jones and Ashley Young, while hinting at a possible exit for a certain enigmatic Bulgarian. Jack Wilshere’s ankle knock is fine, he tweets. Roy Hodgson enthuses over new Baggies boy Zoltan Gera and Stephen Hunt predict a less-defensive Wolves next season. This morning’s Scribbles are here, folks:

Jose Enrique’s proposed move to Liverpool is looking more likely by the day. The left-back has one year left on his contract at Newcastle and the club are now ready to cash in, following a summer of unrest on Tyneside. The move would be of significant interest to Fantasy managers- priced at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Spaniard would offer plenty attacking impetus and defensive returns if his move to Anfield transpires.

Jack Wilshere’s ankle knock should only keep the midfielder for a few more days. The 19 year old took to twitter last night to confirm the initial prognosis of the Arsenal medical staff, after he picked up the injury against New York Red Bulls last weekend. Wilshere tweeted:

“Ankle scan just showed some inflammation. Hopefully will settle down in a few days.”

Sir Alex Ferguson provides up with plenty to consider this morning. Speaking to the club magazine Inside United, Fergie suggested Phil Jones may play a bigger part in first-team matters this upcoming season than many have anticipated:

‘You might think he might not play, but the ability he’s got and the determination he’s got, he could quite easily play. He’s the future obviously, but he could certainly come in right away.’

Jones played at centre half and in a holding midfield role for Blackburn last term and has already been utilised at right-back this pre-season by the United boss. At 5.5 in FPL, he’d certainly be worth considering if plenty starts prove to be the case, but it’s more of a wait-and-see situation- there are plenty more guaranteed players in that price range and to punt on Jones this early would surely be an unnecessary gamble.

In the same interview, Fergie then turned his attention to fellow new boy Ashley Young. The United boss confirmed Young will mainly be used as a left winger in 2011/12, saying:

Ashley can play in more than one position. He can play wide right, left, even behind the striker, so we have options there. But, initially, we’ll start him as a wide left player.

With Young earmarked for a spot on the left, then, and the less-versatile Antonio Valencia only offering an option on the right, it seems that Nani will flit between appearances on both flanks next term.

Valencia, at 8.0, offers better value than Young and Nani at 10.0, but with the rumoured move for Wesley Sneijder also on the cards, United’s attacking midfield options could prove to be a Fantasy nightmare next season.

Our final Fergie-related matter concerns the future of Dimitar Berbatov. United were in Monaco last night for a charity football match against Marseille and, in a post-match interview with French tv, the United boss was asked if Berbatov could play at big-spending Paris St Germain next summer. His reply:

“Yes. Absolutely, no problem.”

Berbatov has fallen firmly behind Javier Hernandez in the Old Trafford pecking order and any funds from a possible move could be used in the club’s bid to acquire Sneijder from Inter, and help recoup some of the £50m already spent this summer.

Stephen Hunt has suggested Wolves are intent on playing 4-4-2 next season. Having survived the drop despite a final day defeat at Molineux last term, Hunt reckons the club will be adopting a slightly less-cautious approach in 2011/12, with a front pairing of Steven Fletcher and Kevin Doyle ready to take on Premier League defences together. Doyle has mainly featured as a lone striker under Mick McCarthy and Fletcher only grabbed his chance when the Irishman was sidelined with a knee injury in the latter part of 2010/11. With the pair relatively low-priced – Doyle is 6.0 and Fletcher 6.5- it’s certainly a situation worth monitoring.

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson is delighted with new signing Zoltan Gera. Having previously linked up at Fulham before, the Baggies boss is fully aware of the midfielder’s capabilities and has snapped the Hungarian up on a free transfer. Gera is currently regaining fitness following an ankle injury and is also banned for the first three games of the new campaign, but it’s clear Hodgson is a firm favourite of his talents and plenty starts seem likely. Gera may also share set-piece duties with Chris Brunt and his versatility may even offer a role just off the main striker in Hodgson’s 4-4-1-1 formation. Hodgson enthused yesterday:

I of course know him well and admired him in the two years we worked together at Fulham, where he was an integral part of the team that did well during those years. I think it is a massive coup for the club that we have been able to persuade him to come back to West Brom. I think it is an excellent signing and he is a player I hope will do as well in the coming seasons as he has done in the past seasons with West Brom and Fulham.

Carlos Tevez is due back at Carrington tomorrow. There's a real possibility that by the time Man City play Swansea, Tevez will still be at the club.

He probably is still looking for a move away, but if that doesn't come to fruition by the start of the season, will anyone take a one week punt on him if he looks like starting.

A Hat-trick against Swansea would be sweet

I don't think he'll start against Swansea. Argentina got knocked out of the Copa America three-ish weeks ago, and old Carlos has been sunning it up since. He's not had any pre-season, and is only now coming back to training. Can't see it myself.

I'll re-assess after the Community Shield, but at the moment it's either Balotelli, Silva or RVP for captain.

I'm leaving money in the bank to change him to Torres/Drogba GW2. That's the plan anyway, it'll change no doubt.

Avoid planning transfers in so early in the campaign. The first gameweek is the most random of all and you can almost guarantee that you will want to make half a dozen transfers from what you thought was a near perfect squad.

In short, I think I'm saying that if you want Suarez, pick him from day one otherwise it will cost you 4pts...

Any interest in Reo-Coker as a 4.5m midfielder? He hasn't been a good fantasy prospect in previous seasons but he's at a new club and there are very few midfielders at that price who offer a chance of more than a couple of points each week.

He's at Bolton now. He's said he wants to get back into the England squad and Owen Coyle has said he thinks he can do it. Whether that's the case or not, that suggests to me he's in Coyle's plans as a regular starter at least.

I have tried not to have the generic team I have seen on here.

    Given Ruddy
Kompany Luiz OShea (or Enrique if transferred) Simpson Briggs
VDV Ramsey Moses M Davies Hoolahan
    VP Rooney Suarez

Obviously the midfield is a little weak, but thats the price to pay for the strikers.

Just for the record, whether players appear in most RMTs or not shouldn't enter your thinking when selecting your own squad. At the start of the season, don't worry about differentials, or try to be different for different's sake. Just pick the team you think will score most points, irrespective of how popular they are!

Anybody else thinking of going "all in" with City players for GW1?

I may go for Kompany, Silva and Aguero (assuming he looks a likely starter). I will then look to do either Aguero to Drogba/Torres or Silva to Malouda.

Good plan or not good plan.

I've gone 3 city players (Komp, Clichy & Silva) but its likely Clichy will change to Bosingwa/Luiz dep. on who starts the season in their DF.

I think Aguero is a risk with so much attacking talent at City and no sign of Tevez leaving.

Mancini has already said Aguero will be on the bench for the CS so I'm not sure how much that game can tell you either (unless Aguero comes on for the last 20mins and scores a hat-trick)

3 strikes me as overkill given the fixtures GW2, GW3, and the uncertainty about how they will line up in attack. Both of the transfers you've suggested would involve keeping cash in the bank, and if your boy Aguero doesn't start GW1 and one of Drogba/Torres/Malouda does well GW1 you could easily be 0.1 short of the move even if you've saved for it.

I had Kolarov last season and he was doing great until towards the end when Mancini kept dropping him and playing Zabaleta out of position there. Not sure what he did wrong but obviously Mancini lost faith in him played a RB there and then signed a new LB once transfer window opened.
So I'd say bar a few games (prob around CL time) Clichy will be 1st choice regular

Nor does it take into account the other player that you get in the position, cheaper keeper more saves.

Cech may have been 11th, but as long as there are 3 Cheleas players scoring more points than him every week it means diddly squat!

Look at it this way; Cech + Collins or Given + Cole. ASsuming that Given isthis year's Foster, he'll get almost as many points as Cech, and Cole will far far outscore Collins.

Assuming you also have Kompany, having 2 big defenders is also advantagous as you only have to play 1/3 cheap defenders each week, as opposed to 2/4 if you have only Kompany.

No point comparing between 2 positions. Compare Cech + cheap defender from team x with Cole and cheap keeper from team x.

Cole and cheap keeper will probably win, cheap keepers get more saves than expensive ones, but cheap defenders don't get more attacking points than Cole

            Cech
            Cole/Kompany/Baines

with a very risky midfield and Carroll/Rooney leading the attack with english passion

Hypothetically, what would you do with the extra 0.5m? And who would you replace Cole with...? A cheapy defender I'm assuming, to offset the 7 paid on Cech?

If so, the question could be "will a cheap GK and Cole outscore Cech and a cheap DEF?"

no the question is "will 2 cheap keepers rotating + cole outscore Cech and cheap DEF"...you get the same chelsea clean sheet points and the 2 cheap keepers will get more save points and the 2 cheap keepers have better fixtures on average than the single cheap defender

nah I agree that Given + Cole would be better, just the discussion from yesterday got me thinking

but now I have both Cole + Cech with a cheap midfield because atm I can't see any expensive midfielders that I want

Meh, semantics - I said "could be".

I didn't want to assume what the rest of his defense looks like, or that he would choose to rotate two cheap GKs when quite a few seem intent on playing Given 90% of the time.

Lost on last post (thanks aidty for your comment)
    Morning all,
I spent to the early hours of the morning finalising what i feel will be my final team! (I need to get a life)
    Anyway what do you think?
GK- Given, Ruddy – Rotate nearly all season
Def- Ivanovic, Kompany, Hughes, Orr and Taylor (swa)
Ivanoivic/Hughes rotate and Orr/Taylor rotate all eeason and i have 2 strong points scorers in Kompany and Ivanovic too.
Mid- Malouda, Silva, Moses, Taarabt, Sessegnon
    Str- Suarez, RVP, Holt

On a different note Enriquye could be a brilliant gamble if he goes to us.

    Hi,

Which one is best do you think?

    Al Habsi (Kenny)
Baines, Kompany, Jose Enrique, Johnson (Simpson)
    Nasri, Taarabt, Silva, Downing (Sinclair)
    Rodallega, Van Persie (Beattie)

    or

    Al Habsi (Kenny)
Kompany, A Cole, Ivanovic, Baines (Simpson)
    YaYa, Silva, Taarabt, Watson (Sinclair)
    Rodallega, Van Persie (Beattie

Am thinking the first one is more evenly spaced out, but both benches are fairly weak and will be hoping Jose goes to Anfield and Nasri stays put

    Thanks

OK this is it, and i have liked it for more than ten mins which is a good sign. Bit different to the genere

    Cech (Ruddy)

    Baines Kompany Enrique (Simpson Briggs)

    Silva Nzog Sessegnon Moses (Vukcic)

    Zamora Rooney Suarez

Obviously suarex depends (have 0.5 to upgrade to bent or caroll), and enrique is pending.

I know im relatively heavy at the back but hate fucking about with rotation, this gives me Liv, Chelsea, Citeh and Baines week in week out.

Option of benayoun if evidence of starts emerges and RVP in GW4.

Thoughts? (and dont tell me Vukcic is a "punt" because it goes without saying!i've picked pretty nailed on starters elsewhere).
