Carlos Tevez takes a break. Cesc Fabregas is fit and may feature in Arsenal’s weekend friendly. Steve Kean finally signs a striker, though may see his skipper depart for North London. Alan Pardew is determined to freeze out Joey Barton and Joe Cole’s name blinks on the QPR radar. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona saga drags on this morning. The midfielder has now recovered from his hamstring injury and for the past two days has trained with the Arsenal first-team ahead of Saturday evening’s friendly against Sporting Lisbon. The Gunners are reportedly preparing two first-team photographs ahead of next season- one with their skipper and one without. Fabregas is even willing to take a pay cut to ensure the move goes through but the stumbling block remains a £5m difference in each club’s valuation of the player.

Carlos Tevez is the other big name in the news this morning. City have reportedly extended their skipper’s vacation, allowing him to miss Sunday’s Community Shield clash with United. Tevez’s future remains in the balance, then, and, despite his obvious appeal in Fantasy terms, the City striker will have been crossed off many a pre-season watchlist. He now seems unlikely to begin the season in the City starting line-up when Swansea turn up at Eastlands next weekend

Chris Samba’s Blackburn future is again in doubt as the latest reports suggest Spurs have moved to the front of the queue for his services. A £6 million fee is reportedly on the table as Harry Redknapp looks to bolster his backline. Presumably the Spurs boss has Samba lined up to partner skipper Michael Dawson, with Ledley King’s knee still preventing him from making regular Premier League appearances. Should Samba arrive at White Hart Lane, it’s safe to say that Fantasy managers may look more favourably both on Samba and the Spurs back four.

Blackburn fans can at least take some consolation that their club made their first move in the transfer market yesterday, completing a deal for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie . He is set to make his debut at Kilmarnock this weekend – a full Scout Report on the Scottish starlet will follow later today.

Norwich’s Ritchie De Laet has wasted little in settling into his new surroundings, following his loan move from Man United. The defender grabbed a goal and picked up the Man of the Match award in the Canaries 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza. At just 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) he’s one to definitely consider, for those Fantasy managers undecided over low-price defenders.

While Joey Barton has hinted at seeing out the final year of his contract on Tyneside, Alan Pardew has other ideas. The Newcastle boss is reportedly determined to ensure the midfielder offers no further disruption to first-team matters by forcing him to train alone until his departure. Jose Enrique has closed his twitter account amid reports the club are on the verge of banning all players from using the social media site.

Liverpool’s forgotten man Joe Cole has been offered the chance of a season-long loan deal by QPR. Cole is clearly out of the picture at Anfield and, providing Neil Warnock’s side can afford his wages, would certainly get plenty chances at Loftus Road. With a 6.0 price tag, he’s a budget-friendly FPL option, though many Fantasy managers will steer clear until the situation becomes a little clearer.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

In the states we have a fantasy American football service called leaguesafe.com that handles all the money for money leagues. They pull in enough to make it free of charge. Some bright bulb should do the same in England.

Probably, but I'm sure that some of the boys from Fulham sat him down and had a chat with him, because the dutchman's tune changed apparently.

      http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-sport/fulham-fc/2011/08/03/jol-not-interested-in-dutch-duo-82029-29173239/

They are decent players. Probably would have cut into a lot of player's time and not really what they needed.

Thanks. Yeah I think with Valencia injured, Nani will start strong. He's scored a few in pre-season, and looks sharp. Tough games on wk 2 & 3 but they are at home, and Nani has good form at OT.

Keep thinking the midfield is weak, but wondering if that's just because they are cheap as Taarabt and Sinclair and both set-piece takers and the main players in their team. Moses has been in good form and it's clear that wigan are pinning their hopes on him stepping up... Martinez is pro attacking football too so he should shine in anything wigan can do during their easy(ier) run of games. And then, FORMICA... well he's a punt, but he's looking a class act in pre-season, it was either him or petrov, but i prefer blackburns games!

In honor of the real Clay Davis:

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, Formica is less of a punt than having Taylor and Bosingwa, Downgrade Bosingwa to have some cheap Wigan or Fulham defensive coverage (other than Briggs not for certain nailed on). This will allow you to play 4 or even 5 at the back in case Sinclair and/or Taarabt have a rough start (this buys you about 3 GW's). Cross your fingers that Nani plays. You should have two quality defenders instead of Taylor and Bosingwa, who may not see the field.

Are you crazy ... Mikel - a defensive midfielder - instead of Formica, an attacking midfielder / second striker 😉

It's not about the teams you pick, it's about the player and how involved they are in their team's attacking play.

I think it's a waste of time trying to get coverage for all the big teams as you can't afford the main players of those teams

TBH with the uncertainty over Fabregas, rotation in the Man Utd midfield, no Gerrard and Lampard's role in the Chelsea team with AVB it's pretty hard to pick a big hitting mid...which is why I have gone for Rooney and RVP in attack.

Bent is in the same boat too if you ask me. Taarabt too as well. Derby, really? I saw Villa stink it up against Chelsea, Bent didn't look up to it, Ireland definitely didn't look up to it...and there is no way I'd roll with that imp Bannan.

Normally not a fan of pre arranged tranfers but.. would it be a good idea to start with Silva (currently have Malouda) and tranfer in Malouda game week 2?

    Given (Al-Habsi)

    Hughes Lescott Kompany (Jagielka,Distin)

    N'Zogbia Silva Benayoun Taarabt (Moses)

    Hoilett Drogba Rodallega

What do you think? Too strong def- sub?
What will happen with 4-3-3 if a forward is not starting? auto-changing to 4-4-2?
Not sure with chelsea players is going to start.. and i have none from arsenal, utd and lpool.... hmm

No Utd but they are the best team and had best def and mid last season

You have 2 man city defence - bad idea

benayoun - wont play every time

      nzogbia - fitness issue

      weak forwards

Why is two man city defenders a bad idea? They are underpriced imo. They got the most clean sheets last season and their defenders cost less than Man U or Chelsea or Arsenal.

You answered your own question there - too much spent on defence for someone whose only planning on play 3 at the back.

Hoilett - a pick I made early on, but I'm not sure any more.
Benayoun is a risk, and so is Drogba

I wouldn't worry about lack of big team coverage, that along with the 'must have 3/4 captain choices' is one of the big myths portrayed in these forums.

Get your balance right, and limit your risk picks (Hoilett, Benayoun, Drogba) for more stable options (Bent, O'Hara, Zamora or something)

Fancy taking a punt on lescott myself, but thought Kompany was sthe better long term prospect as potential city captain and toure is returning from ban in sept, so could challenge for lescott's place.

Not so sure about doubling up on everton defenders, I'd only pick one of jag/dist and change the other.

Hoilett is injured at the moment so might not make start of season.

Benayoun seems to be AVB's bum boy, but I think he'll be back on the bench come the season kick off.

Other than that. not too bad

Of the following, do you think any are risky bets (i.e. potential to be this seasons Boselli):

    Moses, Taarabt, Albrighton, Brunt

Also views on Wilkinson/Givet as cheap entry points to Stoke/Blackburn defences.

Agree about Moses - he's in my team though.

I've heard Givet mentioned a few times but i'm steering clear of Blackburn's defence. If Wilkinson's nailed on he looks a safe bet.

None of them will be as bad as Boselli, but I'd be looking at Moses and Taarabt to be the most risky of the four.
