Robin Van Persie is at the centre of another injury scare on the eve of the season after suffering an ankle knock against Benfica on Saturday.

The Dutchman was forced off the field in the first-half of the 2-1 defeat having given the Gunners the lead with a clinical finish from Kieran Gibbs’ cut-back.

Following the goal, Van Persie suffered a knock on the ankle following a clumsy challenge – the striker played on but was withdrawn at half-time with Marouane Chamakh seeing action.

The extent of Van Persie’s problem remains unclear, Wenger gave us this vague summary in his post-match comments…

“It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.”

We will presumably learn more on the “problem” over the next few days and Fantasy managers will be hoping for some clarity from the Arsenal camp prior to Saturday’s squad selection deadline.

Arsenal also suffered further setbacks on the day with both Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen suffering thigh and back injuries respectively.

  RVP my first name on the team sheet so this is bad news. On the bright side (fantasy football wise, i wouldnt wish injury on anyone especially someone i admire like RVP!) it could be for the best as a good excuse to bring in Rooney for first few weeks and then switch to RVP from GW 4.

      Yeah got a few flaws in my opinion. Defence is highly suspect, VDV is a fitness risk, some big risks in midfield, RVP looks injured, no City cover.

    Especially as Wenger has been bitten a couple of times by bringing people back too early, think it was Fabs last season, where the injury came back and Wenger held a big apologetic press conference saying he shouldn't have played him. I'm sure its been discussed to deaath, but Scholes's testimonial - what a match.

Anderson has improved an unbelievable amount, ran the show and was extremely creative. Macheda has also improved a helluva lot, and a future for him at Old Trafford isnt impossible.

Oh, and that Scholes fella isnt bad either..

Love for Kuyt seems minimal, 2nd top of BP rankings after Malouda so should benefit. Why no talk of him?

(Actually have him and Carroll at the moment, not inspiring me :D)

    Well, that was how he came out on last year's EA BP scoring so presumed it will be similar. Obviously if he played a lot of time it will help and doesn't indicate if he would come top 3 per game. Safe enough bet he will do well under it though as he gets involved all over the pitch.

      No. He came second in EA's overall Index for the season. This does not mean he would have received the second highest number of BPs.
      
      I do agree though, that if he was to put up similar goals/assists this year, he'd do okay with the BPs.

RVP my first name on the team sheet so this is bad news. On the bright side (fantasy football wise, i wouldnt wish injury on anyone especially someone i admire like RVP!) it could be for the best as a good excuse to bring in Rooney for first few weeks and then switch to RVP from GW 4

Who do you reckon is the safest bet to start for Sunderland in defence? I'd rather spend 4.5m than 5.0m but O'Shea (probably the most likely starter) is injured anyway and Bramble (who I have at the moment) hasn't played much pre season.
