Robin Van Persie is at the centre of another injury scare on the eve of the season after suffering an ankle knock against Benfica on Saturday.

The Dutchman was forced off the field in the first-half of the 2-1 defeat having given the Gunners the lead with a clinical finish from Kieran Gibbs’ cut-back.

Following the goal, Van Persie suffered a knock on the ankle following a clumsy challenge – the striker played on but was withdrawn at half-time with Marouane Chamakh seeing action.

The extent of Van Persie’s problem remains unclear, Wenger gave us this vague summary in his post-match comments…

“It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.”

We will presumably learn more on the “problem” over the next few days and Fantasy managers will be hoping for some clarity from the Arsenal camp prior to Saturday’s squad selection deadline.

Arsenal also suffered further setbacks on the day with both Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen suffering thigh and back injuries respectively.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Where are you doing this bet tippman?

Paddy power don't let you combine those bets, doesn't make much sense to me as its pretty much the same as doing 4 or 5 football teams in an accum.. oh well

I was going to do Rooney, Suarez, Rodda, Davies and 2 maybes in Zamora and Gyan, would like to get it done somewhere so if you know please let me know!

wow a lot of changes has to be made then... basically my selection based on the August fixtures since i be playing mini league and they look for monthly winner.. based on pre-season match both zamora n murphy are on form.. 😀 ... Wigan defender simply because the 1st 3 matches are with the teams that got promoted... Orr, i just selected him to fill the remaining defender.. i wont use him though.. thanks mate..

I'm not convinced on Murphy, he didn't score all last season so you'd be relying on penalties for goals really, he plays like a defensive midfielder. If you want a Fulham midfielder I'd rather get Duff in the same bracket, but I never really like doubling up on teams even with Fulham's nice fixtures.

I'd rather get Hangeland than Huth as they both have goal threat but Hangeland has much nicer fixtures.

pretty much every RMT I've seen has Rooney or RVP (or both).

I don't doubt that come the end of the season they will be the highest scoring forwards but I'd rather plan for the 1st 3-5 weeks and then change according to fixtures. Are they REALLY the best 2 strikers when looking at the 1st 5 weeks fixtures? MU have TOT,ARS&CHE and I can't imagine them being goal fests. ARS fixtures are better but RVP seems to break every week and the squad seems so unsettled he might not get the service he needs?

can anyone help me with who you think the highest scoring forwards in the 1st 5 weeks will be?

I'd get Torres but rotation/form are big worries. For me, you need to start off with the big guns as their prices will tend to skyrocket...

Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli, Drogba, Torres, they all could be, problem is, we don;t know who will start! With Rooney and RVP, you know they will start and score points.

I get what you're saying but you're only looking at the top clubs. I would suggest that BLA and WIG are more likely to score in each of their 1st 3 games and that their goals are more likely to come from strikers (Hoilet and Rodellega) and I'd suggest they're even safer bets for 60 minutes plus than Rooney and RVP due to size and quality of squad. Even if MU score in each of the 1st 3 they have more players who get in goal scoring positions.

Man City has some easy fixtures, so you might want to give a nod towards Aguero.

Chelsea has easy fixtures as well, I would go Drogba over Torres.

Villa has favorable fixtures, so Bent would be good.

And with the recent scares on RVP, picking up Gervinho might be a decent idea, although he is a rotation risk.

      IMO
      - too many punts and unknowns

      - you have a lack of captaincy options

      - torres is a big rotation risk for 11.0m

      - I can't trust Wigan- had both Nzog and Rodders opening day last year at home to B'pool!

      - defence is very light, albeit with decent rotation

      - 3 villa, particularly 2 from MF and FW is too much, especially with a more 'defensive' manager

Again these are just my opinions and I'm sure others here can offer you a lot more and better ratings and insights than me. Good luck.

I'm thinking of an alternative strategy this season:

Start off with a bunch of guaranteed starters who mostly play at home in GW1 and GW2 and are as cheap as chips (Actually as cheap as a pickled onion on a tray. To take away), but likely to score decent points, and keep loads of money in the bank. Then wildcard in GW3 as the form players emerge.

    I'm sorely tempted.....

    Anyone with me?

Why keep loads of money in the bank, if you're going to wildcard a couple of weeks later?

Because if I pick the right cheap as chips (CaC) players then their value will go up in the first two weeks and that gives me more money to spend when I use my wildcard in GW3.

In the ideal world, then my CaC players would all go up by .2 so giving me an extra 3M team value to spend in GW3. 🙂

Ah, okay... although it really doesn't matter if a player is cheap as chips or not. If they score well, and have relatively low ownership, they will rise anyway.

The real problem with your strategy is that it's based on "hope". In fact, I'd be very surprised if you could get your team value to rise by 0.5m in two weeks, unless you're taking huge point hits to get the risers in.

Like I said, Sasquatch: It's an alternative strategy....

CaC usually equates to low ownership. But not always.

But if you pick the right ones for the first two GWs then it could be very fruitful.

Okay, cool. I don't want to come across as a pr1ck, but it is a strategy I'd strongly advise against myself.

But you ARE taking a chance, and doing something different, so for that reason, I really hope it works out for you 🙂

I didn't say I was going to do it, but it COULD be a good strategy. Like some people joining in GW2 when they have a better indication of the form players and such (A bit), but with some more time to gain team value.

I'll try and pick a team and report back.

                (And I don't think you're a prick) 🙂

                    Hughes 5.0 Olsson 4.5 Wheater 4.5 Gorkss 4.5 Woodgate 4.5

                    Lucas 5.0 Dobbie 5.0 Dyer 4.5 Pratley 5.5 Moses 5.0

                    Hoilett 6.0 Doyle 6.0 Holt 5.5

                    25.5M in the bank.

Best defender for 7 mill? I got rid of G. Johnson for Vermaelen..

    My team
    Schwarzer (Al Habsi)
Vermaelen Samba Lescott (G. Cahill, J. Olsson)
    M. Petrov Taarabt Kalou Downing (Sinclair)
    Holt Balotelli Doyle

I've basically gone for goalscoring defenders regardless of form. I think Kalou will start with Sturridge banned and that Petrov will play well as Bolton's primary attacking threat.

With Tevez short of match fitness and Aguero still new, I think Balotelli will be on penalties and should definitely start. He's a genius player and I expect him to have a big season.

    Just not sure about Vermaelen...

i often toy with a mid range team and have turned out many a beaut... but keep waking up thinking cant do without VDV, big money strikers etc. Sticking to common sense you can build a really good rotational mid range team capable I'm sure of holding their own.

+1, if you pay that money for a keeper I dont see how you can bench him unless its away to a top side who is bang in form at the time and your sub has a soft home game.

    Hi all,

    Please could you RMT?

    Given
    Jose Enrique, Luiz, Kompany
Sessegnon, Taarabt, Silva, Van der Vaart
    Holt, Aguero, Drogba

    Ruddy, Sinclair, Orr, Simpson

    Too many question marks?

I suppose people want City coverage for their easy start and there's too many question marks hanging over the rest of the attackers. He wont get many goals but he should get plenty of assists and bonus this year.

VDV Is a doubt due to injury

I wouldn't touch ruddy, Norwich have a habit of winning games by coming from behind late on, they consistently concede goals and that was in the championship and league one, splash the 0.5 extra and get kenny, he rotates better too.

Enrique is an unjustified band wagon, for the same price Hughes has much better fixtures, Bardsley/ oshea also have better fixtures and Sunderland kept a lot of cleanies last year, the addition of oshea to their squad can only help that. Yes it's a cheap way to a decent teams defence but one to try a but later on.

And yes I think too many unknowns, almost half your squad in fact, Sinclair and taarabt is more an either or choice IMHO not both

Ok cheers mate. It seems (from Europa games) that Senderos is pushing hard for a starting berth alongside Hangeland. So my question is where does that leave Hughes and Baird, who will get the nod from Jol?

TBH I dont really see the Hughes - Hangeland parteship being broken up. I could be wrong but they were excellent last season and Jol wont want to make too many changes straight away. Its possible he was just toying with differnet players eg Briggs.

But I'd epect it to be :

            Baird Hughes Hangeland Riise

    Taarabt Dempsey Yaya Sess

    Rooney RVP Holt

Ivanovic I Think will start for chelsea , especially with the first game being against stoke. Nelsen iv put in because of his goal threat and decent first few fixtures. Will probably swap him with enrique if his transfer goes through.

Has anyone gone with 3 cheap options for 3rd defender and rotated all year?

In my latest version of my team I have Bramble, Simpson, and Orr as my last 3 defenders. If I choose the best matchup for the first 10 weeks, here is the best matchup for each week . . .

    Bolton (H), Newcastle (H), Fulham (H), Newcastle (H), Stoke City (H), Blackburn (H), West Brom (H), Blackburn (H), Wigan (H), Aston Villa (H)

I am sure you can find a great matchup every week if you choose any 3 teams, but this combo only costs 12.5M.

Bardsley scored a few times last season. Worth the extra .5 IMO
