Wenger Unclear On Latest Van Persie Scare

Robin Van Persie is at the centre of another injury scare on the eve of the season after suffering an ankle knock against Benfica on Saturday.

The Dutchman was forced off the field in the first-half of the 2-1 defeat having given the Gunners the lead with a clinical finish from Kieran Gibbs’ cut-back.

Following the goal, Van Persie suffered a knock on the ankle following a clumsy challenge – the striker played on but was withdrawn at half-time with Marouane Chamakh seeing action.

The extent of Van Persie’s problem remains unclear, Wenger gave us this vague summary in his post-match comments…

“It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.”

We will presumably learn more on the “problem” over the next few days and Fantasy managers will be hoping for some clarity from the Arsenal camp prior to Saturday’s squad selection deadline.

Arsenal also suffered further setbacks on the day with both Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen suffering thigh and back injuries respectively.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      if wk1 0 you can do 1 or 2 in wk2
      if wk1 0 and wk2 1 you can do 1 or 2 in wk3 and so on
      if wk1 0 and wk2 0 you still have 2 but you wasted one

      it's dead simple but that was the most complicated way i could think of to explain it

    I think Lescott and Kompany for the first few games are must haves! I'm expecting 4 clean sheets in the first 6 games with Lescott potentially getting a few goals (maybe even against his old club Everton!)

    and they are so cheap, so they are sure to rocket in price

        I'd assume so, there is nobody that can take his spot till Toure gets back, even then it is going to be difficult for him to just get straight back into the team - especially if Man City remain strong defensively for the first few weeks.

    Any reason why Charlie Adam isn't getting in anybodies squad? As far as I know, Stevie G will be out, which leaves a gap for Adam - he has taken a pen in pre-season friendlies too. I understand that 9.0 mill is a fair chunk, but could he not even be considered a 'RISK' player?

      Very good if Rafael starts, Enrique goes to the Pool, N'Zogbia plays well, Sinclair is able to do it in the prem, Adam is the same at the Pool as he was at the old Pool, Silva doesnt get Modricitis, Nani holds down a place over Valencia, Zamora doesnt get injured and everyone else isnt rotated because your subs are awful.

        Sinclair 2 seasons ago was at Wigan on loan, he made no impact, only scored 1 goal and 0 assists, i think he will do terrible in the prem and so swansea will do terrible

    I probably won't be starting with baines but its just bizarre the stigma against picking him because he's 8.0 and listed as a defender. If you consider all the factors he offers more attacking threat than just about all the midfielders in his price range.

    I've got a team with bunch of cheapies who should rise in value over the first two gameweeks then I'll play my wildcard.

    It's an interesting experiment, but I've entered that team into a league which has a rule that you have nobody from the top 4 teams last season (Man U, Chelsea, Man City, Arse).
