The second instalment in our series of Members articles looking at Fantasy consistency sees defenders come under the microscope. Aiming to highlight those players who week-in, week-out offer solid returns, we’ve taken a larger sample size than the previous Goalkeepers article and analysed the top twelve in terms of points per game in 2010/11.

Although there are four Chelsea players here -in addition to two from Man City – the Blues defenders most definitely vary in average returns and consistency. Who’d have thought, after all, that Ashley Cole was the least reliable Fantasy pick of our featured quartet last season?

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Given/Ruddy
    Orr/A.cole/Kompany/Alcaraz/De Laet
    Malouda/Walters/Silva/Moses/Sessegnon
    Bent/Carrol/Holt

2million in the bank for either RVP/Rooney when their fixtures ease up.

The drug dealer who was shot had a gun on him recovered afterwards.

Yet his girlfriend is parading on her morally high ground "i cant confirm he had one on him" "he is a good family man"

I'm not even sure why we are debating the gun issue now TBH- it never really was about that and it's moved WAY beyond it now.

Just a lot of p*ssed off/bored/young/disenchanted people looking for a new 45" plasma.

Was just about to post about this. Just can't see how it can be played in the current climate. Rioters + Football hooligans isn't going to work. Not that there's necessarily hooligans going to the game but it's a good excuse for them.

God damn these international friendlies and all the farsical phantom injuries the week that the premier league starts! It's almost impossible to tell which ones are actually genuine.

So far we have Bent, RVP, Wilshere, VDV, Luiz, Nasri, Walcott, Pienaar, Ivanovich, Odemwingie, Mikel, Carrick, Skrtel, Johnson and my personal favourite - Lampard with a sore throat. May have missed a few ðŸ˜

I don't think Walcott would go to Germany to get an injury examined like 2 weeks before the International - just to avoid it. To consider some of them as phantom injuries is quite ignorant.

    *Repost from the last article.

So I’ve opted to try and put together a line-up with two cheapie strikers and a beefed up MF. I came up with:

    GK: Given

    DEF: Kompany / A. Cole / Alcaraz

    MID: Nani / Malouda / Silva / N’Zogbia / Moses

    FWD: Carrol / D.J Campbell

BENCH: Foster / De Laet / Brown / Holt

Thoughts? I’d just rotate the two cheap options depending on fixtures. If I needed to get a big name up front I could downgrade Malouda / Nani / Silva to accomodate it. Zero Arsenal coverage worries me though.

I thought about doing this today, but I know I'd want Rooney and Suarez for the season probably. I'd rather try and rotate my 3rd striker with my 5th midfielder.

Kinda ridiculous to think that (barring inury) you'd actually keep the same 2 forwards for the season. I seem to remember this time last year Rooney was completely hopeless, eventually finally scoring from open play against WBA when he tried to head it down for Berbs and Carson being the useless article that he is let it in.

Also even as late as October or November many posters here claimed that there was absolutely no way they'd be selling either Drogba or Ashley Cole and look how that turned out.

IMO the best approach with strikers is to just be merciless and sell for whoever's hitting form.

Yep, I don't disagree. I kind of wanted to give the impression that I think Rooney and Suarez will have fantasy gold seasons. Obviously if either play dips in form or picks up an injury they'll be sold, but I didn't want to go into that much detail or state the obvious!

I expect both Rooney and Suarez to be like RVP this season; when they're fit, you pick them.

You're unlikely to have any player throughout the entire season. None of the team I ended with in GW38 I had from GW1.

I've just taken teh same approach, but worries me not having Suarez or RVP.

Very nice. I was also worried about RVP/Suarez but with both of them being a doubt it made it a little easier. I can easily do Carrol -> Suarez when I want and then downgrade one of my big mids to get Rooney/RVP if they start to go off.

Cashley, Chelsea are usually quick out of the blocks and have a good fixture list. Everton do have a good fixture list but are always slow starters. Plus AVB loves some attacking football which means Cashley will get to roam forwards loads. Thinking of getting Bosingwa on it myself then switching to luiz later on for better value.

Cashley more consistently in terms of clean sheets, but i'd expect Baines to register a couple of assists and possibly a goal during that spell (thus attracting more bonus points).

So, Baines if you're a gambling man 🙂

Oh, you've got Hangeland too. Swap him for Agger... go on!

People's opinion of him dropped after the own goal but he's quality. He has set-piece, bonus point, assist and goal potential. Not a bad gamble for 6 mil...

I KNOW i am shocked at how few people have Riise! I have a feeling Hangeland will get goals early in the season though and i'm sure riise will get assists at least. I intend to sub one of them after a few gameweeks though to spread the risk. Bent and carroll are my biggest gambles, but i have faith they will consistently get goals here and there throughout the season. My midfield oozes bonus points though. Taarabt will go after a few gameweeks probs.

I though that but i have a feeling he may turnout to be a bargain. He has a killer shot, plus some bonus potential. Defenders aren't usually high point-scorers but he has potential to be...

I so want to have him and Baines in my team 🙂

I haven't really got the vibe from Fulham's pre-season and Europe results that he'll make an impact, but he's still only 30 and can have a big season.

i really want drogba or rooney. But drogs hasn't been scoring as much pre-season plus i think torres will have a good season and Rooney is just that bit too expensive considering starting fixtures.

He may be campaigning, but his campaign makes more sense than the current Boris system. Obviously he would campaign, would you expect him to go on there and not give his views? What's happening now is the best campaign he could hope for.
