Nani looks a nailed-on starter for next week, says Sir Alex Ferguson. Liverpool are hopeful on Glen Johnson’s fitness. Darren Bent uses twitter to explain his shoulder injury while Man City coach David Platt questions Carlos Tevez’s participation in next Monday’s home game with Swansea. With only five days to go before the big kick-off, here’s this morning’s Scribbles:

Nani’s two-goal performance in yesterday’s Community Shield has earned him a starting place in game week 1. Buoyed by the wingerâ€s contribution in the 3-2 comeback win over Man City, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed after the game that the player will be part of his first XI at West Brom next Sunday:

“You have seen Nani’s form in pre-season and again here. He will start the season.”

The United boss was also full of praise for young Tom Cleverley, whose half-time introduction at the expense of Michael Carrick gave his side an extra attacking impetus from central midfield.

Liverpool are confident Glen Johnson will make the season opener at home to Sunderland. The right-back limped out of Saturday’s game with Valencia with a thigh injury and has subsequently been ruled out of this week’s England squad but Kenny Dalglish is optimistic Johnson will make it for the weekend.

Fabio Aurelio reckons he could play a big part in Liverpool’s season. Despite the club being linked with Jose Enrique throughout the summer, the Brazilian says he’s ready to step up and nail down the left-back role:

My problem has been the injuries and I’m aware of that but I still believe I can be better than in the past and more available. This season we have our games mostly once a week so it could be a good season for me to have a run of games and fill that gap.

Man City coach David Platt has admitted it’s unlikely that Carlos Tevez will be taking part in the club’s home game with Swansea next Monday. While the striker’s future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain, Platt said of the Argentine:

“Just finished the Copa America and had three weeks off, which the players need. There’s only eight-nine days before that game [against Swansea], I think it’ll be tight. But Carlos is a strange one, in the sense he doesn’t need a lot of time to get back fit – so we’ll see. Once he’s back in the building, we’ll look at things then.”

Alex McLeish is confident James Collins will be fit for the start of the season. The centre-half injured his back in training last week and has been withdrawn from the Wales squad for the game against Australia on Wednesday. Collins has been one of Aston Villa’s stand-out players this pre-season and Big Eck said :

James has injured his back. He did it a few days ago to be fair and he thought he was okay in training on Friday. But I think the intensity of training over the last few days just flared it up and he was a bit stiff. Therefore, we didn’t want to risk him. It’s a worry – but knowing the type of character James is, I’m sure he’ll be determined to be on that pitch at Craven Cottage.

Darren Bent will miss England’s midweek match with a shoulder injury. The Villa forward used the medium of twitter to announce his injury but his withdrawal seems merely precautionary and he expects to be fit for the weekend game at Fulham. Bent tweeted :

Gutted I had to pull out of the England squad. The shoulder has been bothering me and wanna make sure I’m fully fit for the big KO next week.

Roy Hodgson is hopeful Peter Odemwingie will recover from an ankle knock to face Man United at the Hawthorns on Sunday. Last season’s top-scorer picked up the injury in a recent friendly with Bristol City and has yet to feature since for West Brom. Speaking ahead of yesterday’s game with Parma, Hodgson said of the injury:

We were hoping it would recover in time for today’s game but it didn’t. Now we’re hoping it won’t go beyond next week. Ankle injuries can take time and I wouldn’t want to put a timescale on it. All I want to say is the medical staff are very optimistic he’ll recover, so I’ve got to be optimistic. I’m sure he’ll be desperate to play against United and we’ll be happy to put him in the team if he’s fit.

Roberto Martinez may be without the talents of James McCarthy for the season opener at home to Norwich. The midfielder picked up an ankle injury in yesterday’s 1-0 win over Villarreal and Wigan are sweating on his availability. Good news for Martinez was the continued good form of Victor Moses- the winger scored the only goal, to net for the third game running.

Steve Bruce looks set to add another player to the Sunderland ranks this summer. The Black Cats boss has already snapped up nine players during the close season but intends to make that ten with the capture of winger James McClean from Derry City in a deal in the region of ÂŁ1m.

    Newest draft...
    Given Kenny
    A.Cole Kompany R.Johnson Bramble Simpson
    Nani Lampard Silva Moses Sinclair
    Bent Graham Campbell

Going to play 5 in midfield most weeks. Have 0.5 in the bank. Could do Sinclair to Sess or Campbell to Doyle or Kompany to Lescott Will downgrade Nani and/or Silva and upgrade one of my forwards in gw 2 or later.

Whay ye think? Should I press confirm? Or stick with Nzog and Rooney/Rvp and Baines?

As much as he might enjoy that Christina I dont think I will. I will probably be downgrading Silva to Sess in gw 2 or 3 which will give me funds to upgrade frontline. Could also do Graham to A.Johnson. I think theres a bit of value there. But Sasquatch you make a good point about RvP, I will want him for gw 4.

Finally - a team I think I am happy with!

    Given (Ruddy)

Baines Kompany De Laet (Simpson) (Orr)

    Nani NZog Downing Moses (Hunt)

    RVP Drogba Andy Johnson

I think a strong forward and midfield line will be the way to go this year considering the new bonus point system... although I am slightly worried about the lack of cleansheet potential back there with the exception of Kompany - anyone got any views on this approach?

A bit different so I like it! Maybe Dempsey to Duff might be a good move to free up 2.0 to upgrade one of your forwards or other mids? Maybe Luiz to A.Cole because Im not sure about Luiz starting place in the team at all.

Dempsey costs too much - all fulhams strikers are starting the season fit (with the exception of Dembele) so his time up front will likely be a lot less than last year.... great player though and could come up trumps, but somewhat of a risk in my opinion due to his price

I think that Baines worth the money, Lots of assists plus on pens until Arteta is back. I don't know about Dempsey as this year he won't play OOP (Zamora AJ and dembele are all fit).

I would say downgrade Luiz that is a rotation risk and upgrade Dempsey.

    Kenny
    Cole Kompany Hughes Gabbidon
    Nzogbia Nani Silva Moses
    Carroll(C) Bent

    subs Given Bramble Graham Ferguson

goalkeepers and defence rotate perfectly well from GWs 1-10
2.5 in the bank for Silva to Lampard GW2, no transfers GW3, Silva back in for Wigan GW4 along with Van Persie for Bent. Will try to get Lamps back in for GW6. I have Bent and Carroll up front because they are proven goalscorers. subs are p1ss poor but I'll deal with that when I use my wildcard.
Usually don't plan transfers ahead but I think its important to have your captain for each gameweek in your team in advance.

I thought my team was done but i have messed around with it a little and could do

Nani, drogba, silva instead of malouda, rooney, n'zog.

    Which do you prefer??

Im tempted to go for option 2 but i guess option 1 is safer.

I'd say option 2 is safer. In option 1 Nani and Drog both rotation risks. Malouda is the only even slight risk in 2, and I think it's a very low risk.

    Howdy fellas my 1st RMT

How does this bunch of ball bags look:

    Given / Schwarzer

    Baines / Kompany / S Taylor / De Laet / Enrique(LFC bound?)

    Nani / Moses / Taarabt / Sinclair / Formica

    Rooney / Bent / A Johnson

    2m in the bank

I’m worried midfield looks a bit limp.

Personally though I do think your midfield is too limp. 2 promoted players and 4 relegation candidates in there. Also I'm not sure Schwarzer is necessary when you have Shay.

I have that same back line but I'm tempted to do hughes -> senderos as he is 0.5m cheaper, apparently in pre-season senderos played cb with hangeland, and hughes was at rb, not sure how they will line up for GW but would be interested to hear your thoughts.

ivanovic is a injury concern as it suarez i believe he will miss the season opener.

its a good starting 11 in that everyone is pretty much nailed on to start if fit.

needless to say subs worry me.

don't understand why rooney is popular.

Is it just because people want a 12 million striker?

The game v man city showed me (confirmed) that currently rooney can play well and united can score without rooney getting many fantasy points.

Not ideal if you ask me, especially at his price! Have you *ever* watched an arsenal game in which van persie played throughout and thought the same about him?

But then again, Rooney's freekicks are terribly close to hitting the back of the net. He's on pens too and will get goals and assists too.

Compared to RVP, yes hee isn't all that essential in FF terms.

Looks like your mind is made up on Rooney. Doesn't mean he isn't a good option. It's West brom ffs. He's on pens and at the end of the day is still a goalscorer.

I'd rather him than the likes of Aguero or Torres

It's west brom with a view to change to a chelsea/man city striker when i know more and then to RVP in gw 4.

Or i might just choose him for weeks 2 and 3 too.

He's virtually guaranteed to start GW1, which you can't say about RVP, Tevez, Aguero, Drogba, Torres, Suarez. Also means you can easily transfer to one of the above players if they do nail down a place.

Yeah he's a place holder until it becomes clear which is the premium striker to go for - Torres, Drogba, RVP, Tevez, Aguero are all too risky atm.

Rooney isn't the best option and def overpriced, but at least he's guaranteed starts and on pens/some free kicks.

      Starting team at the moment.

      Given (Kenny)
      Agger Baines Kompany (Bramble, S.Taylor)
      Tchoyi Moses N'Zogbia Hoolahan Nani
      Holt RVP Dzeko

I have a very heavy defence but the way I see it is that I have two sets of perfect home and away "rotators" and then Kompany, so he'll play every week, and nearly every week I am guaranteed to home starters, and when Baines is away from home, he is still a good option anyways, so some weeks will play him over Bramb/S.Taylor.

Midfield Is quite lightweight, I'll admit, but I also think its quite good, except Tchoyi maybe... Moses is on form, I know its pre-season, but still, his fixtures are nice. N'Zogbia's fixtures are also tasty, same with Hoolahan, and Nani, well he's Nani. Up top I have Holt, He's a must have for me, and RVP likewise. Dzeko is a GW1 punt and I have left 2m in the bank to upgrade him to Drogba for GW2.

      What do you think?
