From MI6 to the CIA, never has there been such rigid protection of confidential information than that surrounding Mark’s initial Fantasy squad. So, when super-secret agent himself joined me in the studio for our first podcast of the season, I was resigned to getting thrown the odd teasing titbit but little else.

However, it was to my very great surprise that he’d gone and left the proverbial back door open, there, “live” on air, he handed me a laptop giving me open access to his team on screen right in front of me. Since I was already in the house, he reluctantly decided to show me around.

An unexpected twist to our first podcast of the season and, dare I say it, a rare privilege for the listener.

Listen in and feel free to disagree.

    Ooooh, new podcast, fantastic.

Today I've decided on an 'ah, f*ck it' strategy. I always WC early, so no point lying to myself and pretend I'm not going to do it this year too. Plan a team for the first 3GW's (with more cheap defenders than you can shake a stick at) and WC. It cannot possibly fail.

I keep doing a team based on the best 11 picks i could choose in a given week for first few.

Its making me considering making alot of changes to my team.

Basically gamble on 3 with Chelsea, no United etc.

      How yours looking?

          Hey Fray

No just thinking it could be better to focus soley on a couple of teams rather than try to cover all bases of the big teams early on.

For example the gamble to cover 3 Chelsea players week 2 3 could be far more points than a more common

Chelsea player, United player City player for week 2

Mr Tackle, can I ask if you're going 2 big, 1 cheapie up top? I'm really toying with squeezing in a 3rd big striker but it will probably mean losing Silva in midfield. Would appreciate your opinion.

It may not be much help but I'm either going:

        2 big + 1 cheapie

        OR

        1 big, 1 mid + 1 cheapie

PS I feel City attacking coverage is necessary and there's no better option than Silva in midfield, part of the reason why I ditched my original front trio of RVP, Bent and Zamora.

Nice one, cheers for taking the time.

I think at any other time of the season I'd be all over Rodallega against the 3 promoted teams, so I should stop being perverse and just get on it.

            Good luck.

I just think from a budget perspective it is optimal to have 1 budget striker and 1 budget mid (and not 2 of each in either position).

Rodallega would get a lot more love were it not for the emergence of Moses. I am going with Victor myself as my budget mid.

DB, went to get something out of the oven so I'll put it here or it'll be lost forever.

I'm still going to be having Rooney or Nani from the start. At the moment it's:

Given - Ruddy (Boring, but Given has three decent fixtures)
Figueroa - Elokobi - Simpson - Gabbidon - Swansea Defender (not sure who as of yet)
    Malouda - Silva - Taarabt - Sess - Moses
    Rooney - Carroll - Bent

Although I'm looking to maybe take Bent & Taarabt out for Drogba & A.N. Other.

Silva can be swapped with Timmy Cahill come GW2, and haven't had a proper look at GW3 as of yet.

    How's your team coming along?

Ive been looking at that strike force to but i just cant get it to work for me plus i cant decide on Rooney or RVP, wish RVP would just be properly injured, makes it a lot easier!

The Chelsea stikers are a bit of a dodgy area though. Looks like Torres is out GW1, but if he's back for GW's 2-3 it muddies the water quite a bit.

Yeah, the crossover between 1 and 2-3 is a bit annoying. I'll have another play around later no doubt and see what can be done.

After loads of messing about, my latest thinking is this. The best player value seems to be around the 6 to 6.5 range (fair few options, good rotations), so having one big-hitter in midfield with a couple of 6/6.5's and cheapies could do OK. Secondly, I want Rooney, Bent and Carroll in there from the start. There are flaws to this, but what do people reckon?

    Given Ruddy
    ACole Komps Bramble Orr Simpson
    Silva O'Hara Taarabt Moses Routledge
    Rooney Bent Carroll

1m in the bank for Silva to Malouda GW2.

It's risky, but you can move money around fairly easily in transfers. If O'Hara or Taarabt aren't any good, there's the likes of Sess, Sinclair et al to bring in. I don't like Routledge at all, but there you go. Cole can come out as soon as we know more.

A lot of people on here seem to be saving money to do the Silva to Malouda transfer in GW2. Makes sense given fixtures. The problem is if Silva does not perform in GW1 then it would have been a wasted transfer, particularly if you have to patch things up elsewhere. And if Silva does perform then will you really want to bite the bullet when he is showing some form and his fixtures thereafter remain quite benign? Perhaps better to get Malouda in from the beginning and Yaya for the ManC coverage.

Sorry for repost, but need to decide in less than an hour..

Playing a different game, you score points in all competitions, you cant rotate and only get to make transfers twice a season.

Huth and Cabaye OR Enrique and N'Zogbia/Downing?

      😆

Weirdly the tank that is Tiote looks like a little person too.

My overwhelming feeling when looking down that list is that that is a very patchy squad.

Drog and Hoolahan or Malouda and Holt? Seems like a toss up in the short term at least.

It would be great to get opinions on my 3,4,3 team

    Al-Habsi (Ruddy)

    Enrique, Kompany, Cahill (Simpson) (Hall)

    Malouda, Adam, Jarvis, Nani (Dyer)

    Drogba, Carroll, Rodallega

    Cheers

Adam is over priced and may not even start. Al-Habsi is a poor keeper if you plan on sticking with him. Bolton have the worst fixtures in the world if Cahill remains there.
I do like the 7 players who are the same as mine though

Yes I may tinker with Al-habsi and Cahill hoping the latter will end up somewhere else, I'm confident Adam will start GW1. Cheers for the advise.

50:50 against Sunderland, will probably start most of the season though, 80% of games or so
