The thrills and spills of the greatest league in the world is back this weekend, and in time-honoured fashion so is the “Fantasy Flutter”.

To those of you new to this “Flutter” business, the concept is simple enough – we take a £10 stake each week and spread it across specialty bets that derive from the Scout Picks.

Last year we did better than break even and this time aroudn we want to give our friends over at Paddy Power a real run for their money. For Gameweek one you’ll get a chance to take a punt on Nani back flips and assist hat-tricks, as Paddy have provided an assortment of betting treats in their Fantasy Football Scout Specials page.

Read on to find out where our money goes and get the skinny on the big odds…

First up is Liverpool’s £35million hero-in-the-making Andy Carroll. Some tempting numbers offered from Paddy here, but none more so than Carroll to net two headers or more at 16/1. Now as awkward and cumbersome as his 6’3″ frame looks chasing down a defender, he has all the majesty of a rising salmon when his feet leave terra firma. I’ll take £2 at that price, and would have a few more if there wasn’t loads of value to come (I’d even take a couple of quid on a hat-trick of headers at some point this season if Paddy’d oblige).

With Charles N’Zogbia settling in to his new digs at Aston Villa, Victor Moses looks the man to give manager Roberto Martinez the goal threat from the flank this time around. Knee deep in goals in his pre-season friendlies, Moses will be parting the yellow sea and making his mark against Norwich on Saturday. After only netting a single goal in 24 shots last Premiership season, I’m edging toward quality over quanity with Moses to score from outside the box at 9/1 for a £2 stake.

Community Shield hero and part-time Michael Jackson look-a-like Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha, or Nani for short, lines up against West Brom for Man United’s opener. After netting a brace against sterner opposition last weekend, Nani will be hungry for more and at 12/1 in the two or more goals market, it’s worth a £1 of anyone’s money. I’d even take a punt on him doing a homage to his doppleganger and Moonwalk in celebration, but alas that market is not available so I’ll settle for a cheeky quid on Nani to score a goal and do a backflip at 6/1.

Last but not least, David Silva has been on fire in Man City’s pre-season. His nimble footwork has lent elegance to Mario Balotteli’s immature showboating, with perfectly timed passes that put him as favourite for the seasons top assist machine. In that vein, Silva to have three or more assists at 20/1 doesn’t seem as longer shot as the odds might suggest. With a hammering expected, and long list of scoring talent on the pitch and the bench, i’ll take a punt and whack £2 on Silva’s silky skills. No guts, no glory.

Acca-not believe it!

In addition to the flutter this week, Paddy have put on an enhanced treble market for us to welcome the newly promoted clubs to the world of Fantasy Football. Although QPR might be a deal breaker here, with a draw well fancied, Norwich, Swansea and QPR all to lose at 13/2 makes the final £2 of the £10 stake. Sorry lads, what goes up, must come down.

Good luck in your gambles, and look in next week to find out how we did.

Bet £10 Get £20

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Also, sessegnon has been tearing it up in pre-season. Personally, it's between him and taarabt for me.

I've gone with Holt (obviously ha!), but the fact he's on penalties has done it for me.

Watched him briefly in the Championship, hoping he can be this year's Carroll!

I rate Campbell as well, but I believe QPR already have multiple striker options in Bothroyd (among others).

      Great team.

You've got to hope your defense holds up, but the additional midfield big hitter could make it all worth your while.

Consider getting Ephraim or Dyer instead of Surman to avoid doubling on Norwich.

I'd track Ramsey intently over the first few weeks, but wouldn't add to Week 4, when Arsenal's schedule becomes more favorable

he hasn't ever really had a long string of games with either Cardiff (where he began his career) or Arsenal, so it'll be interesting to see how things develop--and he could become a good choice if he can help fill that major midfield void that Arsenal now face

that is so difficult! Do you have Arsenal coverage? If so, then not Ramsey.

QPR have easier fixtures to begin and Taraabt has a lot of potential. Those other two are capable of some major points, too. Particularly Zog as he's proven over the last couple of seasons.

Thanks for the tip. Who do you think would be a good replacement?

The Gameweek One picks cite Alex of Chelsea. I've always like him, but there's a lot of competition for places and he doesn't look to figure prominently in the Blues defence this season. He might even be transferred before the month is done.

Tough break with Rafael. Thoughts on other options?

      You can't.

You need to reformat your midfield. I wouldn't bother. Your team is very solid.

    Leagues are still buggered

We've lost 7 out of ours and I've no idea who they were!

Do you think it will sort itself out or do you think that's up to us ??

      I hope it'll sort out.

Both my brother and I were 'dropped out' of our league (It was listed on my 'my team' page, but I wasn't listed as part of the mini and couldn't view the forum), and we were re-added later on.

As of now we're still there and a new member has been added. I'm optimistic you'll be sorted by morning.

I think I've got the perfect mix with 2 strong and reliable players in every position. (except keepers)

    Given (Ruddy)
A Cole, Kompany, Hughes (Gabbidon, Simpson)
    Malouda, Silva, Moses, O'Hara (Sinclair)
    Rooney, Carroll, DJ Campbell

    Thoughts?

toss a coin my friend. newcastle don't look strong tbh, but neither do arsenal, if anybody is getting arsenal pts. it's rvp. united can have pts. spread out between 3 or 4 guys easy.

    Nani Silva Moses Taarabt (Sess)
    RVP Carroll AJ

Am I set or should I downgrade Cole to strengthen the defence & maybe leave a little money in the bank for Malouda/Drogba? Just want to settle on a team so would really appreciate any quick advice. Best of luck for the season fellas!

i'm having a dilemma about Cole, too. This is what I'm doing:

      Cole out/Bardsley in
      Sessegnon out/Surman in
      Zamora out/RVP in

      What do you think?

briggs is a risk but a v good player and could potentially leave your bench for a first team spot, Gabbidon will get you 2 pts each week from the bench.

    Given (Ruddy)
Hughes Kompany S.Taylor (De Laet, Brown)
    Malouda Moses Nani Kuyt (Ferguson)
    Rooney Bent DJ.Campell

    Pleas RMT 🙂
I know my defense is light but i think i might take the risk, especially this week where S.Taylor is facing Arsenal,
    and Hughes v Bent

The long run is more important than the first week, how does it look? 🙂 thanks

defence is ok actually. Kuyt is a gamble i suspect, Carroll kinda steals his thunder in a positional sense. I'd swap DJ for Holt, but thats just me.

      Defence is good
Midfield is Great although I would switch Ramsey with someone cheaper and use the funds to upgrade the forward line.
