The first major team news going into the weekend comes from the Arsenal camp with Arsene Wenger confirming that Robin Van Persie should be amongst a string of players available for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.

The Dutchman was a slight doubt going into the weekend having suffered a knock in the first half of the friendly with Benfica. Wenger has however offered us reassurance that the striker should figure at St James’ Park…

“From the players who played in the last game, everyone should be available.”

There’s more positive news on both Thomas Vermaelen, who was nursing a back complaint and Theo Walcott who has returned to training ahead of schedule following an ankle problem. Kieran Gibbs is also thought to be available and will likely claim the left-back berth.

With Aaron Ramsey and Andrei Arshavin both also given a clean bill of health, Arsenal’s resources look plentiful enough even without both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri who remain unlikely to figure. The Gunners will also be without both Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby in midfield.

Van Persie’s availability could now cause a shuffle within our Fantasy squads. Despite a testing opening three Gameweeks, Arsenal appear to have a run of fixtures during the first-half of the season which should hand the Dutchtman opportunity to flourish. The recent squad upheaval and the continuing doubts over Van Persie’s durability will be a concern but, even so, the Dutchman is currently owned by over 140,000 Fantasy Premier League managers – a figure which could be set to rise as the day progresses.

This early team news from the Emirates has been collated in our Team News section – keep popping back there for all the updates as today unfolds.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Cheers ... dont think my question was clear though...

            either RVP and Downing

            OR

            Carroll and Ramsey

Haha may have reworked my team anyway!

Provided you have a 12 mill fwd, then Carroll/Rams. Downing was not that prolific in FPL last year plus new team etc. In Metro, he was a different beast altogether.

dont like hangeland for value. Better off with Riise

      CLichy isnt nailed on
Yaya will play deeper so I question his value aswell at 8
      Like sess and moses

      Cant go wrong with bent
Dzeko is a risk but its not a bad risk, if it pays off will be amazing
Roda hasnt played much pre season - i had him in then took him out. DJ Campbell or Holt for 1 cheaper is better

That defense is poor. Doubling on the expensive Fulham defenders WILL backfire, 100%.

You're looking good with your front 8, although I'm not too keen on Rooney, and you need another good midfielder. Not too many changes needed, but crucial ones. Downgrade your Fulham boys asap.

Plenty. Downgrade to Brown from Sunderland or upgrade to Cole.

I'd ditch both. They're not worth it. Fulham aren't going to be as defensively strong this year.

Mate, Kelly and Smalling will be bench starters for sure and don't really offer anything from set pieces. De Jong is far too deep and just won't get on the score sheet. As a United fan I'd like to be with you on Berba but I have a feeling this might not be his season. You must have some extra dollar left over with that selection as well. Take a look around and spend wisely. Look at Drogba, Silva, Enrique, Huth, Kompany, Rooney, A Cole etc. Players that have seen it and done it time and time again. Thinking cap on I reckon.

            Ok...

Why pick Alcaraz if your not playing him gw 1 vs Norwich?(BTW I beleive he has not played at all pre season due to Copa)

Huth, 6mill is a lot for a def vs Chelsea first up. Stoke games look tough. Why not BK? Enrigue prob won't play due to his trsfr not happening soon enough.

            Graham? Rather get Holt.

this is my final RMT since I am going away today and will not be able to watch or follow the games this weekend.

    Given (Ruddy)

Kompany, Enrique, Orr, Simpson, De Laet
    Nani, Malouda, Moses, Silva, Ramsey
    Suarez, RVP, Graham

I am aware that it is unlikely that Enrique will play and that my defence is weak. I believe this is a pill I have to swallow to afford my midfield.

My questionmarks are Ramsey and Suarez. Ramsey is easy to switch to sess/Taraabt/Sinclair for example. would it be better to have some depth instead of doubling up on arsenal attackers?

Suarez is a major doubt. I would guess he will play ~20 minutes. It is okay with me for the first gameweek. The problem is if his price drops. What is your prediction on this?

          "Pick players that play."

CHS are at STK so you wouldn't miss out much anyway. Better to wait a week and see how CHS look like lining up.

As a cover for Arsenal i would go with RVP and Downing. Downing/Carroll will be the top assist/goal pair of the season. Therefore i believe that with downing you get coverage for carrolls goalthreat. The same cannot be said about Ramsey/RVP. RVP scores for fun and however he likes. He also gets assists which Carroll doesnt.

Trouble is with your defense is that it's very weak and almost entirely reliant on Man City. After their CS showing (for what it's worth) I'd be a bit worried about that. They now have the Clichy factor.

Cant you spread the cash a bit? Upgrade Brown/Gabbidon, Downgrade Lescott perhaps?

I would go for 1 out of those. Although I like 2 if you had Suarez instead of Carroll

I hope we get some press conferences today where some managers indicate who they might start. Perhaps too much to ask tho

No, comparatively lower-risk. You have "captainable" non-rotating key players; good starting point. You also have a spread of values which is useful for evolving your squad (depending on what changes, if any, you may have in mind).

Cheers mate, that's the way i see it.

If disaster strikes, i can almost make any change i want in any position. Plus it is easy for me to bring in Suarez at any time.

Personally, I'm not sure I can ever select DJ after finding out what those initials stand for... takes the edge of it.
