While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who else is weighing up getting bosingwa over cole? Id love the 2 million, it would make my midfield a lot nicer, but cole picked up the bonus pts this weekend where bosingwa seemed to play a lot better to my eye and also if bosingwa is left out next week ill be pissed, getting cole back in will be a hard task!

I'd like to make changes, but it (as others have also noted) it is not saying free transfers when one goes in to make alterations

    anyways..RMT

new team plan - full squad:
    Given Kenny
Kompany Bosingwa R. Johnson A. Hughes Huth
Taarabt Silva A. Young Sinclair Moses
    Aguero Holt Suarez

team prior to changes (Gameweek 1, as played with subs):
    Given (Kenny)
Kompany Bosingwa R. Johnson A. Hughes (Huth)
    Taarabt Malouda Moses (Sinclair) (O'Hara)
    Drogba Holt Suarez

    -----

How much of an improvement? How do you rate the new team (Silva, A. Young, and Aguero in for Malouda, Moses, and Drogba)

    Many thanks!

Why not get senderos over hughes? Hes more of an attacking threat off set peices and 0.5 less. Huth seems dam expensive too when you could have woodgate for 4.5.

is Woodgate guaranteed to play though? good defender, always injury prone though

what is likely to be Stoke's regular defence? they just added Upson, too; Huth should be guaranteed to start at RB, and last year scored a bunch of offensive points too

Any thoughts on this team please? I've tried to pick a semi-long term team. Essentially the cash flowed from Baines towards Aguero (Baines -> Bosingwa was a big cash move) Wise?

No cash left, prefer other options, particularly with Sinclair and Sessegnon?

    Given Vorm
    Kompany, Enrique, Bosingwa, Brown, Simpson
    Young, Sinclair, Brunt, Sessegnon, Moses
    Suarez, RVP, Aguero

      I've gone with:
      Bosingwa Baines Kompany

Now considering Huth in for Baines to free up 2 million...

    Current team is:

    Begovic (Ruddy)
    Bosingwa Baines Kompany (Simpson, Gabbidon)
    Chaill Nani Silva Sinclair (Tiote)
    Suarez Dzeko K.Jones

Got 60 points so far, + Silva's bonus x2, very satisfied, even with Kenny conceded 4 and had Given on the bench (along with Simpson). Thank god for saturdays crash, almost got Drogba in... I liked my team, couldnt even think of 2 changes next week, but if this free wildcard came it would be a waste not to overhaul the whole thing...

What do you people think of this?

    Given, Ruddy
    Enrique, Senderos, Cashley, Simpson, Brown
    Malouda, Hoolahan, Moses, Formica, Taarabt
    Rooney, Suarez, Aguero

Not sure about Ruddy, would love to have Kenny back if I had 0.5 spare (QPR only conceded 32 over 46 games last season, the second best defense was Swansea with 42, impressive, and Bolton scored at least 2 really lucky goal... Cheap for 4.5 and rotates with Given perfectly over the first 12-15 games). Aguero, Formica don't have the best fixtures either...

    Who would you change?

    Thanks in advance!

What types of gains do people get, seems like a lot of hassle just to get a 0.2/0.3 million more to play with. A lot of the top players teams aren't that expensive, which begs the question, is there a correlation between team value and team success, someone posted something on this before and the answer if I remember was no.

Vorm rotates poorly with Given, much better with Schwarzer for same price.

I like back 5 except I think Bosingwa will share RB with Ivanovic, so, good for time being but you will have games where Ivan will play.

Risky midfield, would prefer VDV or Young instead of Malouda, despite fixtures, Malouda was poor the other day, and I think Torres is better as Chelsea attacking coverage.

            Good team.

The point of Vorm is to be a permanent backup. It's not for rotation. If you take it at face value in a straight Ruddy VS Vorm and Given VS Schwarzer faceoff, Vorm and Given should come out on top.

Play Given every week and forget rotating. If he's injured, Vorm comes in. If it's a longer term injury, get Given out for Begovic, Schwarzer, Jussi or Robinson. Done.

Had some time to digest a bit and now am back to the drawing board to start planning the team for GW 2.

          Given, Vorm
          Kompany, Bosingwa, Enrique, Brown, Simpson
          Silva, N'Zogbia, Sinclair, Moses, Surman
          Rooney, Torres, Suarez

          1.0 in bank

The short term punt on Bosingwa looks good at least for the next two weeks. Brown kept in reserve to rotate with Simpson in case Bosingwa gets dropped for no reason.

Silva's form is too good to ignore and he's Man City's most nailed on attacker. N'Zogbia has two games to prove his worth in what is one of the easiest dual run of fixtures so far. Moses still has a bit more time to deliver, and Sinclair also has a nice little run here to show what he can do. Surman fills out the last spot.

Up top, Rooney, Torres, Suarez covers all the big teams nicely. Rooney has two home games and with the new bonus rewarding goal scorers, he should score really well. Suarez is Liverpool's best attacker and his bonus hauling ability looks unmatched.

Torres is the one punt, but I saw enough in the Stoke game to be convinced. He has two home games now to do the business, and if things go south, he's one quick transfer to Aguero away. Agreeing now on the fact Aguero might not be ready to produce week in week out, and he has price protection for at least a week so the mad rush to get him in should subside by the time his protection wears off.

1.0 in the bank could be crucial. Allows Torres to become any striker trending if he fails, and gives me flexibility in midfield to upgrade if players start hitting form.

          Thoughts?

N'Zogbia is certainly a bit of a punt, but I think considering his next two fixtures, definitely one worth taking. You haven't seen how bad our (Blackburn) defense is. Thinking of captaining N'Zog!

I can only have one of Young, VdV, Nani, Malouda and Silva for the team balance to work. For me, it has to be Silva. He looked so good, and there's no reason to think he can't deliver again.

            Defence looks good imo

Attack looks good too , but midfield shocking

Im not that keen on silva , especially at somewhere like bolton . Sinclair was anonymous today. It looks like your midfield cobbled together merely because the players are cheap .
Also regarding silva , Nasris arrival will shake things up.

If it was me i would replace silva with ashley young and lose rooney

You make a fair point, but the big problem I have with that is the lack of options for a mid price striker. You can't get any decent strikers for less than 9.5 (Suarez) without going all the way down to bargain basement. Getting Young would hurt the balance. I'm keen on Silva, and I guess that's where our opinions divide.

I have looked at the three big striker option , but midfield really suffers. Instead of looking for a mid priced striker i think you should consider a cheap striker 5-6m That gives you an extra 5-6 mill for midfield , then you can have silva and another top midfielder plus upgrade the fourth midfielder too

I'm with you to an extent on this one Camzy, but I'd go even further and downgrade N'Zogbia. There are plenty of good 6m options: Jarvis, Brunt, Hoolahan (even cheaper) to name but 3.

I think what you say about strikers is true about midfielders too: you've either got to splash out the big bucks, or go into the bargain basement. I reckon you can go 3 big strikers, 1 big midfielder, or 2 of each, and then fill out the rest with decent budget players. Then you can play around in defence, where there are good options at all price ranges.

As an example, I can get Torres, Aguero, Suarez, Silva, Baines, Alex, Warnock and Schwarzer into the same team, and still be happy with the rest of my players. With almost the same players I can even get Rooney instead of Aguero.

The downside of this strategy is it's hard to scale up on of your budget mids without using 2 transfers, but given the fact we've got a free wilcard this week it should be easy to save a transfer next week anyway.

                    an excellent point

the prices are quite expensive this season; a number of the better options are 0.5 to 1.0 higher than one might have expected, making it difficult to craft a team with a lot of the major players

Looks ok to me, not tempted by any EVE players given the run of nice fixtures over the next 5GW? Cahill scored for Australia last week v Wales and he usually thrives playing behind a striker and Saha is fit.

I think RVP and Arsenal have just shown that they will take a few games to "gel" but you need the ability to plug RP back in when that does happen. Torres at the xpense of Malouda I see? Interstingly I was thinking the same thing.

Everton's only valuable assets are Baines and Cahill.

Both ruin team balance, and I doubt they'll be particularly good choices either. Baines might not be on PKs with Arteta returning, and Cahill is expensive and is at a very awkward 9.0 price point.
