While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For all this talk about Torres looking sharp against stoke , did he actually even come close to scoring ?

No he didnt he flitted around like a big fairy as usual , nice little touches and layoffs but never looked like scoring a goal

    FPL Squad (version 2.0)

    Al Habsi, Vorm

    Baines, Bosingwa, Senderos, Simpson, DeLaet

    Malouda, Young, Nzogbia, Moses, Dyer

    Aguero, Suarez, Odemwingie

deciding whether to bring in odemwingie now, bench him and save a transfer as i am committed to having him starting GW3 on, or take a 1 week punt on a forward 7.5 or less.

I'd save on Odem. He's coming back from injury.

LIke the rest of the team though. Strong in all areas. Don't like your goalies. Given or Begovic or Schwarzer are all preferable to Al-Habsi.

It's all about Odem this season. WBA look to be an incredibly solid unit and now he has Long to feed and to feed off you can guarentee he'll be involved in a large percentage of goals. Also reckon he'll do well in the PPI as he scores lots and makes a large contribution to the team, almost every attack goes through him.

one stat that stood out for me regarding PPI, the only player to finish top 20 for the season in PPI last year NOT from a top 6 club (i.e., relatively inexpensive) was odemwingie.

And he missed A LOT of games mid season with injury.

7.5 bargain and I could see him nicking a goal vs Chelsea like he did last year.

            All aboard the Odemwagon.

Wingie should be good to go by GW3, i know a little risky but he was battling fitness for united. Hes such value with good fixtures to come.

A few thoughts on purely fantasy matters. I've made my feelings about the site clear but time for some purely football thoughts.

Baines won't be worth the 8m with Arteta fit again from injury. Still an attractive prospect, but the penalty duty is the swinger, and without it he's not quite worth 8.

Vorm rotates perfectly with Foster from now on. Foster can be played almost every week, but for Chelsea next week Vrom has WIG. When you might want to bench him at GW7 Vorm has STK.

Richards may turn out to be the best bet in the city defence. Can't see him getting dropped and as tonight shows has good assist/goals potential.

Silva and Aguero both look essential from tonight. I'm more than willing to eat my words about Silva, looks to be vital if he plays like tonight again.

I think I'm going with a frontline of Rooney Aguero Odem. Rooney can either become RVP at any point or Hernandez when back from injury.

I think I'm going to ditch N'Zog, Villa look to be dour and defensive and looks like lots will be jumping ship and don't want to lose the value. Need to find a good option for 6.5 to fit my whole team.

Good luck with the Baines train. I'm sticking with Cole personally. Still don't trust Bosingwa to start every game and also Ashley Cole look like he'll do very well under the new BPs system. City and Chelsea defensive coverage is vital IMO.

Also I'd say sess is easily worth 1m less than N'Zog for sure. Don't much fancy Villa attacking output, particularly N'Zog in the formation used on Sat.

Don't want triple WBA with Foster in goal too!

Hmm I wasn't keen on Wolves pre season but they looked pretty decent vs B'Burn. If I needed a slightly cheaper forward I'd get Fletcher, but not convinvced by those two. O'Hara seems to do a lot of good for the team not sure he's going to score enough. Jarvis is too erratic.

        I'd have Enrique.

Liverpool are a good team, and he can be trusted to provide solid returns. Warnock is short-term, but he doesn't really offer much apart from Villa coverage which will soon run out after their short run of fixtures comes to an end.

Do you not think they will be a very tight defensive team this year? Almost a superior, more reliable version of Brum for the last two season in terms of keeping clean sheets.

Liverpool defence looks dodgy to me for a top scoring team this year.

That's very impressive. Wilkinson isn't a great choice considering he might not start. But you need the 0.5 to get Cahill I suppose.

The problem here is Cahill. Not that he isn't a good prospect, but his potential replacements. There's nowhere easy for him to go. You need 1.0 to upgrade, or you could downgrade to a 6.5, but there's really not much room to maneuver.

I was going to make the same comment RE Wilkinson.... you could upgrade Kompany to Baines by downgrading Cahill to a 6.5m midfielder and then use the remaining 0.5m to upgrade Wilkinson.

But that's just personal preference. Solid team.

Signed from F.C Utrecht, where he's been his whole career.

He has around 5 Dutch caps, and was in the 2010 squad.

Looks a class keeper, made some outstanding saves. The two from Yaya (the offside one and the FK) were world class. Looks like a good addition to the league and a brilliant spot by Rodgers.

With all these "free transfers" what happens with the 1 free transfer from gw1? Would I be correct in assuming that as this is basically a wildcard for everybody that we will only have 1 transfer going into GW3?

Everybody is bigging up Silva and he nicely put away the sitter, but I thought thruout the match YaYa looked more likely to score. Barry and Dejong took care of all the defensive mid duties
Nasri will throw a spanner on the works but YaYa could have easily had 2.
I have Silva and didnt take YaYa because I was worried about DM duties

Yaya definitely was more offensive than expected. That being said, Silva was even more offensive than Yaya.

Silva had several shots that could have been goals... not too mention his additional assist potential. Still worth the extra 1.5 imo.

Throw Aguero into the equation... and Silva's assists are going to rack up.

        +1

With aguero, silva going to be a different player this year.

He had better strikes on goal then yaya yesterday, one good save by vorm and another hitting the bar. Shots missing the target effects bonus and thats going to affect yaya bonus pts. A few of his were off target.

You won't make any profit. You'll need players to go up by 0.2 and none are going to. That, and the fact price rises are apparently frozen.

Anytime chief. I just don't see much value in two bottom shelf goalies. Get at least one guy who can put up consistent points for you.

Vorm looked incredible today. Think about him instead of Ruddy.

Can't pick between your two team. I still can't decide for myself whether or not to keep Baines...

Ok spent the past 40 minutes playing, what are peoples thought's on the following:

    Given

    Terry Kompany Bosingwa

    Sessengon Moses Cahill Walters

    Torres Rooney Suarez

(Vorm, W Brown, Simpson, Surman) 0 in bank

It's basically Torres or Malouda for Chelsea attacking cover. Malouda would go in for Walters, Torres to Holt (0.5 left if I do this).

    Cheers

i like the 2nd option better of the two. It balances the prices where you have one cheap forward instead of 3 cheap mids. plus a 10.5 mid makes it easier to switch to another 10.0 mid if needed, young or nani, adam or kuyt, vdv, etc. Plus i like holt better than walters. Plus you pocket .5

I'd go Cole over Terry, just because he got the 3 BPs for doing sod all.

Until someone works out the new BP system then it seems to me like goalscorers and defenders who play lots of passes get the nod. And goalkeepers who are on a winning team.

And also shots off target seem to be penalised.

It's all a bit mysterious, but this new BP system will be valuable in the long run.

Hoolahan plays AM for Norwich at 5.5?

I like Walters personally, but judging by the PPI index Jarvis did very well and Wolves are playing two up top for him to supply. Choices choices????

    Given Vrom
    Richards Boswinga Simpson X X
    Silva VDV Sinclair Moses Surman
    Ronney Torres Saurez

i have 8.0 in the bank and want to fill the remaining 2 defender spot...it would have been ideal if i could have 9.0

would love hvaing 4 mn defenders but apart from Simpson not keen on any one...i had Gabbidon and his -2 was a debacle for me...i am not keen on ne 4mn defender unless and until u can convinc me some apart from Simpson

Fabio could be good for a few weeks, but he's still too much of a risk and considering United's keeper problem and their tough fixtures, I'd avoid.

Evans won't start ahead of Jones or Smalling.
