While we pointed you towards the Fantasy Premier League Apology earlier, having had time to digest its contents, I thought I’d bring you my view on the actions laid out in today’s release.

We’ve all been immensely frustrated by the events of the weekend – before tonight, it was almost as if the Premier League players themselves had empathy for our situation – arguably, we had very little to cheer.

Personally, I just want to move on now – to look forward to Gameweek Two – I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that. Before we do however, let’s chew over that FPL statement a little.

Receive unlimited transfers
No points will be deducted for any transfers you make up to the Gameweek 2 deadline (11:30 BST on Saturday 20th August 2011). If you have already made transfers and had points deducted, these will be restored to your overall total by midnight on Tuesday 16th August 2011. If you have already opted to play your wildcard, this too will be restored at the same time.

This first point, not surprisingly, is by far the most significant. Effectively we now go again with our squad selection. There’s already plenty who feel somewhat aggrieved by this, who feel that they are being punished for their planning and foresight both in terms of getting their team organised and for spotting talent without the assistance of Gameweek One’s fixtures.

While I see the validity of this argument, my main concern as a player is that I want to be playing this game on a level playing field. If I win my mini-league, I want to win it knowing that I’ve done so with no more advantage than my rivals.

Right now, there are members of my mini-leagues who can claim that they were attempting to make changes to their team or captain on the morning of Saturday’s games. You can say they should have planned ahead but, hand on heart, I consider at least changing my captain and substitute order on Saturday morning about 90% of the time over the season. I can understand the frustration of those who were unable to do so last weekend and I don’t want to spend the season risking that being cited when they look at the teams above them.

Personally, I don’t want to play in a league where a proportion of my rivals can claim any disadvantage now, or as the Gameweeks roll on. By taking this step the FPL have at least leveled matters, even if proportion of FPL Managers feel almost punished, nobody can be seen to have a true advantage going forward.

There is the argument that, those teams who started well in Gameweek One (not too many before tonight) have lost their advantage since those with lesser team selections can now reset their squads for free. That’s true of course, but then, by playing a wildcard, everyone had this possibility regardless, the only difference is that now, everyone can keep that wildcard intact – again, everyone stays on a level.

It’s a very difficult situation to weigh up – personally, I feel slightly numb after Gameweek One – in many ways I want a new start where nobody can claim an advantage or disadvantage. I think today’s solution from the FPL gives us that, even though there will be those who feel they’ve lost out. Given the problems suffered on Friday/Saturday – it seemed inevitable that we’d be left with a group of FPL players who felt that way. At least now we have a level playing field for the remainder of the season – that seems a fair situation.

One final note here – regarding the price freeze prior to Gameweek Two – I’ve enquired on this and we’re waiting confirmation. I’ll communicate this once we have news.

Opt to start mini-league scoring at Gameweek 2
The option is available to all mini-league administrators to start the scoring from Gameweek 2. Go to ‘Leagues’ > ‘League name’ > ‘Administer’ > Select ‘Gameweek 2’ in ‘Scoring Starts’ drop-down menu and click ‘Update league details’.

Okay, so now the decision whether to scrap Gameweek One as a scoring Gameweek is down to league administrators. Passing the buck a little but a smart move. Personally, for the reason’s I’ve outlined above, I think it’s valid to start scoring from Gameweek Two to ensure that nobody feels at a disadvantage.

Having said that, perhaps we should give managers a choice. While we’re resetting our Head to Head Leagues, there’s the possibility of running a Gameweek Two Classic League for Members and Non Members and offering the option. To be honest, I need to clear my head and sleep on it before I consider that any further.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Mornin all
I know RMT’s are frowned upon so added some thoughts so I can receive extra grief!
    Given Ruddy
    Cole Kompany Senderos Simpson Delaat
Malouda N zog Sess Moses Ramsey
    Suarez Rooney Rodellega
    Bank 1.0
With this new opportunity, right or wrong, I have come up with this-

GK’s happy to play Given every week, 4.0 gk just to fill a spot
Cole- would love to go Bosinga but happy to pay for peace of mind and long term starts. A season keeper.
    Kompany- season keeper
Senderos- a risk but need the .5 over Hughes
Simpson, De Laat- want to play 3-4-3 most weeks, these can come if ever needed.
Malouda- a risk but imo a good shout for consistent starts and don’t have Torres
Nzog- good fixtures and don’t have bent
    Sess- hopeful for this one
Moses- a cheap one who will start for me during this period of good fixtures and be sub when playing vs good teams
Ramsey- bit of a differential? and good fixtures ahead
    Suarez- underpriced and quality
Rooney- home fixtures, playing well can become rvp
Rodallega- just for 2 more weeks, have 1.0 in bank and then becomes Odem

Worries- no Man City attack, in my mind Malouda can become Silva after favouable fixtures

    Please tear apart!

Still I have Silva and Komp and am now looking how to fit the square Aguero into the round hole of my team

yeah, man utd's run over the next few weeks is terrible, bit concerned with de gea, he is pretty new and lacking confidence, dont get me wrong, he's a great keeper, but may let in a few goals before he improves, so combine that with their tough draw, im staying clear of de gea and dont have any man u defenders for now.....

    Vorm, Simpson, De Laet, Surman

Worried about Ramsey, but not sure who else?
I think Baines and Bent are must haves in the short-Mid term, Villa will score at home and Bent will be the in the goals every time they do. Worried about no City attacking cover, but was more worried about no Man U cover so young over Silva for now.

Young to VDV and maybe Bent to Henandez in a few weeks possibly.

Am i right in thinking players who have clincal shots ON target are more likely to get bonus pts: zamora and andy johnson come to mind, whereas if shots are off target you get penalized, i guess thats why andy carroll got 0 rating.

Also if your an attacking defender who can pass the ball around, your more likely to get bonus points, even if the passes do not amount to anything.

I guess if you can score a goal then, it doesnt matter too much if your passes or shot are not on target. Thats why i think the likes of andy carroll and yaya might suffer if they dont score. There shots tend to be wayward at times

Both points i guess typified by fabio getting bonus pts over ashley young.

I pretty much said the same thing earlier on.

Looks like shots off target are penalised however much they miss by, which is stupid.

I can understand that blasting a shot from 40 yards out into row Z is crappy, but it seems that a narrow miss just outside the post or over the bar is also judged in the same way.

That's EA stats for you. 🙁

I reckon we are coming to the same conclusion.

The biggest problem being that a lame shot that dribbles into a GK's hands is probably classified as a save; a brilliant through-ball where the recipient is marginally offside is probably classified as a missed pass, and tapping it around in defence to waste time at the end of a match will probably be classified as a whole shedload of completed passes.

I'm 69.84% certain that this is the case. 🙂

And Dobbie... since he got a start away to Man City, can we assume he's a fairly nailed on player for Swansea?

so after a round of football..... a fairly uninspiring one at that... anyone reckon its worth throwing a few quid on city for the title? Baring in mind they did ONLY play the relegation favourtes.

as far as fpl goes...i always feel there is a season long vibe each year. Some years its a midfielders year..some years its an attackers year and some years its a defeders year. I still remember the year i had 2 pool defeners and the keeper ....i dont think they conceded in about 8 weeks... easy pickings!

anyhow i'm feeling it being a defenders year a bit this year - a 4 at the back every week job. Fulham, Villa, City, Chelsea, Stoke to be tight - manu and pool once they settle. Shoud be plenty to pick from out of that lot to make some nice def points.

Distin is a cheap and easy way into the Everton defence.

And all he does is block shots, tackle well and make short and accurate passes.

      EA BP goldmine! 🙂

It looks like this unlimited free transfer milarky in GW2 was just a wind up - new post just up on the fpl website....

Just kidding. But seriously, can you imagine the tears on here if that happened and all these price hits stood! haha
