The second gameweek of the Premier League season comes to a close tonight at Old Trafford, as champions Manchester United play host to a Tottenham Hotspur side belatedly starting their league campaign. The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open for business, so come in and take a seat whilst we mull over the all-important team news…

Injuries force Sir Alex to play an extremely young defence who, along with goalkeeper David De Gea, have an average age of just 22. Unforced however, is the youth in attack for the home side, who also have Javier Hernandez back in their match-day squad.

Man United XI: De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Evra, Anderson, Cleverley, Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck

As for the visitors, Luka Modric didn’t take the trip up the M1 because, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, “his head isn’t right” with speculation about his future still rife. Elsewhere, Brad Friedel makes his club debut and Jake Livermore starts after scoring midweek at Tynecastle.

Spurs XI: Friedel; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Kranjcar, Livermore, Bale; Van der Vaart; Defoe

Take a pew in the Dugout Discussion chatroom, where you can follow all the action from tonight’s game.

isit worth taking a 12 point hit to take out

    arteta walcott agbonlahor and saha

    for

    welbeck suarez cleverley adam

or just take out walcott and agbonlahor
and bring in adam and shane long

but i think i must have man u cover against arsenal especialy when arsenal lost 2 nil at home to liverpool or maybe it might be quite a tight game what do you reckon lads?

12 point hit? sounds like a wildcard would be a better use but virtually 3 wildcards in a row doesnt make a whole lotta sense...

All strikers hit those shots from hard passes over the bar some times. That's absolutely nothing to worry about.

12pt hit is massive imo. unless your bench is shite, maybe just set Agbonlahor on the bench and rotate. Not sure how much time Welbeck will get once Chicharito is back in the mix...Adam and Suarez look pretty solid though. Man U cover against arsenal not essential imo, but they did look pretty poor against liverpool

I'm pondering benching Warnock for Simpson actually... Wolves look to be creating a fair bit going forwards, and it's a derby game so should be fairly lively.

      I'd probably go with Brown.

would really like to hear peoples thoughts on long vs odemwingie. i want to get one of them in this week for the very attractive looking set of fixtures wba have ahead of them but have no idea which to go for. will long be starting every game once odem is back to full fitness? is odem going to be a guaranteed starter once fit? if so how long will that be?! will odem be pushed out to the wing to accomodate long? any wba fans in the know...?

if odem keeps penalties then i think you have to choose him. a certain starting place, more proven and penalties for 1.5mil more is worth it imo

odem being pushed out to the wing could be a worry. with respect to tchoyi and long i'm not certain they will be that highly regarded to cause that. odemwingie was huge for hodgson last season and he still has enough problem squezzing thomas back into the side when he's fit. personally i see tchoyi or long losing out (not a west brom fan mind)

thanks for the replies. i guess i'll wait til later on in the week (especially as prices don't seem to be changing at the moment) to make my decision. i do prefer odem over long, my only problem really is that is he going to start this gw? i can't really see hodgson rushing him back considering wba have actually been playing pretty well without him and long has 2 in 2. i guess i'll hold out for some team news and if not maybe just hold back for a week!

      If you're completely bonkers...

Keep one out of Saha and Arteta. Everton have good games coming and one if not both could score well. Maybe swap Walcott for Silva or Young. Agbonlahor needs to go as he is injured, unless you play 5 man midfield.

might've finished higher if you'd kept a few of those points and not squandered them in the greedy pursuit of shekels. :p make well-considered transfers and your team value should take care of itself. money-game is overrated 🙂

Early in the season, it's the way to play. That extra bit of cash can help you all season long. With each progressive week, that extra cash becomes less and less important, so the time to make as much money as possible -- even if it costs a hit or two -- is early.

don't fully agree. last season i made very few early transfers just to save .1 on someone. left em to friday mosta the time. also i took no hits til gw 28 or so. had a good team value too. buying the right players will lead to your value rising as long as things go broadly to plan. gettin your targets in a week in advance of when u need em is another (albeit risky) way of ensuring u don't miss out on someone due to a price rise. you work for every point. treat em well. 😀

on ps3. can't figure the linkage process out:/ will do it by the weekend anywhoo. finished 120th anyway if yer still interested. i agree that a few 4 pointers here and there, even if uncalled for, can work well. i'm just overcautious and tend to run scared at the prospect of throwing away hard-fought-for points unless i otherwise can't field a team. last season there were so many budget options raking in the points that i just think that the importance attatched to statospheric team value is somewhat overstated. this season however, with high prices all across the board it might be a good idea to follow your advice. just sayin that sacrificing points for moolah is a big risk that won't neccessarily serve you as well as u might anticipate

u are chasing points like a madman. why do you have walcott if not for gw4 and on? u got him thinkin of the long term and now u've had your head turned by man u and pool results. take a step back. consider how your team will look with those players. u will be relying on man u and pool to keep it up. adam, welbeck and cleverly won't be gettin those numbers too often imo and what'll u do then? ship em all out for whoever's flavour of the week for another 12 point hit. if u are desperate pull out the wc and start over, otherwise just dispense with your injury doubts for a maximum 4pointer. think long term, play the fixtures and don't overinvest in 1 or 2 teams unless their fixtures are DENCH

Gervinho i reckon or possibly Mata , but too early for him

              Nzogbia i would avoid

gervinho is a prik for getting sent of i had him
my reason for nzogbia is because agbonlahor is injured so he might get a more attacking role

young is class but i think the game v man u will be very tight like 1 nil 2-1 either way

but van der vart looks out of it he was poor last night and i would stay away from tottenham for a while

charlie adam aint done much either
