Monday Dugout Discussion

The second gameweek of the Premier League season comes to a close tonight at Old Trafford, as champions Manchester United play host to a Tottenham Hotspur side belatedly starting their league campaign. The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open for business, so come in and take a seat whilst we mull over the all-important team news…

Injuries force Sir Alex to play an extremely young defence who, along with goalkeeper David De Gea, have an average age of just 22. Unforced however, is the youth in attack for the home side, who also have Javier Hernandez back in their match-day squad.

Man United XI: De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Evra, Anderson, Cleverley, Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck

As for the visitors, Luka Modric didn’t take the trip up the M1 because, according to Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, “his head isn’t right” with speculation about his future still rife. Elsewhere, Brad Friedel makes his club debut and Jake Livermore starts after scoring midweek at Tynecastle.

Spurs XI: Friedel; Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Kranjcar, Livermore, Bale; Van der Vaart; Defoe

Take a pew in the Dugout Discussion chatroom, where you can follow all the action from tonight’s game.

Norwich fan here. Drop De Laet. His goal was a fluke and we are not a defensive side.

Just as a comment; that is a lot of money up front.

aye true but can you see that happening when someone like Torres or Surez starts to put them past us? Not to be negative but I just believe in attacking defenders/those that will get clean sheets.

lot of money up front well invested. That's my front line up this week...those three got me 33 this week, if captain Rooney's 1bp prediction comes true. I picked them because they are solid and will frequently bring me those kind of returns. good team Jack Attack...wish I'd got that mid as well. 😉

Good to see two quality mids in there but I'm really not sure about Young particularly with the fixtures. VDV/Malouda might make more appeal tbh.

+1 Drop Young for Malouda somehow and that's pretty much the team I'd pick this week. Or maybe Mata will come in at 9-10 this week and you could take a punt on him?

Yeah was tossing up between Young and VDV
Went Young purely because Tottenham sucked, but it was their first game vs Man U, maybe go VDV as i have Rooney?
Also on De Laet, is there any better for 4.0?
Im playing Brown over both Taylor and De Laet as they're versing Swansea, may change that though

I suppose with the second WC, so many people jumped on the likes of Suarez Silva etc that they already have high ownerships before GW2 starts so it would take huge investment to get them to rise, that's my guess?!

I don't understand this bonus system at all. It seems like if you score a goal you get bonus.

But you already get 4points for scoring a goal...bonus points should be given to players who actually played well without getting assist/goal/clean sheet

Obviously if your team wins 2-0 and Welbeck grabs both of them he would get 3 BP but if its just 1 goal in a 3-0 win...its a bit silly to be awarded an extra 3 points.

Esp. when Rooney ran the game and Jones played fantastic in defense.

Welbeck was actually pretty shocking first half, I was fully expecting Hernandez to come on for him. Then he got his goal and a lovely backheel for Anderson's goal. He affected the game so I'm not surprised he got 3. But yes, Rooney was by far and away the best player on the pitch.

I tried to quit playing this season, but couldn't do it. Started playing from GW2.

Scored 53 with Darren Bent (C) and Vorm being the standout performers. The remaining 9 players contributing 18 points in total tells you all you need to know about the rest of my team :/

Going to give RVP a couple of weeks before doing maybe doing a change, Rooney and Saurez are season keepers now for me. Need to get Silva in but will have to trade RVP to do it. Maybe Little Pea or Bent in and RVP out leaving the cash to upgrade either NZog or Yaya. Quite like the idea of having both Silva and Yaya as they seem to be the most likely starters for City and I still think Yaya has goals in him.

    Hilario (Given)
Boswinga, Kompany, Huth (S Taylor, Cahill)
    Moses, Nzog, Sinclair, O'hara (Taarbt)
    Rooney, Carroll, Bent

I've gone for clean sheets at the back (hopefully), creative mid priced midfielders (should be on free kicks and penalties) and a strong attack (Thinking of changing Carroll for Suarez, not sure when though).

I'm on 113 points so far, so topping the leagues I'm in, but need to keep it up.

I'm thinking of moving Taylor in the lineup for Huth this week and saving the sub for next game week.

Torres to Bent is the bigger temptation for me, but the general wisdom above seems to be to hang on for one more week. If you look at NZog on ESPN's stats he was playing well forward and had a good number of touches in dangerous areas, so I'm giving him another chance.

interesting, the lads who were watching it had a different opinion to stats, if memory serves I heard a lot of people saying he was playing way deeper this year, but then stats never lie, anyone see the game(s)?

yeah i seen it, first half he wasn't too involved but 2nd half he was much further forward working his magic but i'm not sure if that was down to the fact that Agbon had been withdrawn at half time but it kinda looked that way.
