The Gameweek Captain Poll is now open and sitting proudly in the middle column of your homepage.

While last week’s effort saw Chelsea’s Fernando Torres run away with the majority vote, only to fall flat yet again, this week’s poll already looks a far more intriguing affair.

We’ve just over 300 votes in already and the top rankings look keenly contested. Torres, despite failing once again to find the net against the Baggies, is once more a front runner with the Norwich defence due at the Bridge this weekend. The Spaniard is just one of four strikers currently leading the pack.

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez will surely get more than 19 minutes to inflict damage on an obliging Bolton defence at Anfield, while Wayne Rooney is another two-in-two striker with a home fixture this weekend. The ravaged Arsenal line-up looks likely to be patched once again – Rooney could be well placed to capitalise.

It’s Darren Bent who leads the way right now, though – but only just. He’ll be setting his sights on a Wolves defence at Villa Park on Saturday, although Mick McCarthy’s side will arrive with consecutive wins and just one goal against. Bent won’t find it easy then, but is currently the armband favourite off the back of a goal and an assist, in addition to Fantasy Premier League bonus, in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Blackburn.

Below this quartet we find Frank Lampard hovering, an option again boosted by the fact that Chelsea will be widely expected to notch at least a couple against Paul Lambert’s back-four. Likewise, Florent Malouda is an option currently garnering votes. David Silva is already being backed to prolong his sparkling start to the season, despite a testing trip to White Hart Lane, while a few are backing Victor Moses to recover from a knock to take the fight to QPR at the DW Stadium.

An interesting array of poll options, without a clear leader. Cast your vote at some point over the week and throw in your early opinions right here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just a comment on the Captain Poll - When people answer, do they pick 'The best candidate for Fantasy Captain' or who they will pick as captain (and therefore not considering potentially better option who aren't in their team)?

I think this would explain why Torres is above Lampard!

I mean in general... what you'd do most weeks. Obviously everyone has just had a wildcard last week so most people own Suarez, but not necessarily Lampard due to his price. That's just an example though. the question is - do people vote the person they think will get the most points or the person in their team they think will get the most points?

I always choose the one from my team....hopefully most weeks it is the best choice on paper as I try to plan a week or two ahead.

Eg this week Suarez is the standout....next game week Silva will be the standout, gw5 Bent, gwk 6 - chelsea have a great home fixture so hopefully one of their attackers will emerge as consistent.

All this talk about favourable fixtures is doing my head in. Always always always go with form not fixtures. The last man u game is a perfect example. Down as a difficult fixture and yet did that stop Rooney from running the show and coming away with a bagful of points. No. Arsenal vs Liverpool hard fixture form players still took the points. In contrast chelsea vs west brom, easy fixture should have been a goal fest which of cause it wasn't because most the Chelsea side look like they have never seen a football before. Ignor the fixtures and take notice of who is scoring the points.

It's not fail safe but better than captaining torres because of some mistaken belief that all of a sudden he will become the player of two seasons ago again.

You seem to be missing the point that almost every pundit in the country was jumping up and down last week saying that it looked like the new Torres was back.

People were not just jumping on the fixtures they were seeing a spark of form. Signs of a revival to Torres once more becoming one of the deadliest most fixture proof strikers around. The reason so many people jumped on it is because it was such a highly publicised event with every journalist to pick up a pen making positive noises about his performance.

Agree with this. Certain players I would play regardless, but they tend to be higher priced, and from the best teams. Low to mid cost players, from low to mid table teams, will always be in my squad due to their own point scoring ability, AND favourable fixtures.

Good point but often easier said than done. I'd rather pick someone with an easy fixture, someone do well against a better team and be proven wrong than miss out on a player with an easy fixture get a hat-trick/bonus haul

36 points on my bench has made me abandon playing the fixtures. I'm playing the player in form, regardless of opposition now.

I feel a bit betwixt and between on this. Owning both Rooney and Torres. Rooney in form and home to a patchwork Arsenal defense. But, it looked to me that Torres played well in both his first 2 games and now he has a very soft defense in Norwich. Leaning to Torres, but preparing for a second GW of disappointment.

I would hope people look at both...that's why I captained rooney (man utd at home to anyone is a good fixture in my books) this week. Same reason I'm captaining Suarez this week, home, weaker opposition, form player, form team.

Suarez and Rooney are both my top choices. Suarez edges it though as the opposition is weaker. Luckily I have both so not too bothered if one does well and the other doesn't.

5 Players went up in price last night. What do you reckon are the chances they will all rise again before the next GW? I also have Long who should go up in price tonight and Enrique might too. Be nice to build up the value of my team early on for the rest of the season.

It looks like the price rise mark is ~50k NTI, apart from Long and Enrique I can't see many others going up till next week now

What was the old NTI mark? I'm assuming that this new 50K threshold is much higher than last season. If so, then price rises are going to be much harder to come by, which kind of sucks.

Looks like Bosingwa could be under threat if this pereira bid is actually true! Rumour mill says Malouda could be going to Juventus now to... makes me buying Mata an easier decision if this happens! 🙂

He was wery good for The world cup fantasy :D, very underpriced(cheapest in the Uruguay defence) and OOP playing almost as a striker while placed in fantasy as a defender. Helped me win my league :), damn im gonna overvalue him in FPL 😀

My strikers currently are Darren Bent, Suarez and Fernando Torres.

I want to take Torres out but who would you replace him with? Thought about Drogba if he starts against Norwich???
