Spurs, Fulham and Stoke all comfortably qualify for the Europa League Group stages, though Martin Jol’s joy was tempered by a leg injury to John Arne Riise. Harry Redknapp starts to bring in the loan stars, with Craig Bellamy and Joe Cole next up on his radar. Arsene Wenger looks to France for midfield replenishments, while David Gill declares Man United’s summer spending is now at an end. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Fulham progressed to the Europa League group stages last night with a 3-1 aggregate win over Dnipro. The triumph was overshadowed by what Martin Jol described as a serious leg injury to John Arne Riise. While we await more on the prognosis, Fantasy managers will no doubt be eyeing up Riise’s replacement Matthew Briggs as a possible cheap alternative- the left-back comes in at 4.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Spurs also eased into the group stages with a 5-0 aggregate win over Hearts. Five-up from the first leg, Harry Redknapp fielded a few youngsters for last night’s return clash, though Tom Huddlestone played the full ninety minutes and will come into contention for a starting slot for Sunday’s home clash with Man City. . Redknapp also announced that Luka Modric will play against Roberto Mancini’s side.

Redknapp has continued his summer recruitment drive. Acquisitions have been thin on the ground for Spurs but yesterday saw two new names make their way to White Hart Lane on season-long loans: Juventus attacking midfielder Yago Falque and, of course, Man City’s former Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor. Redknapp is itching for more, though, and has even mentioned Joe Cole as a possibility.

Craig Bellamy also comes into the equation for Harry- Man City are desperate to get the player off their books and may even pay off the remainder of his contract in order to ensure his exit. The Welshman has also been linked with a return to former club Liverpool.

Arsene Wenger has turned to his native France in the hunt for new midfield recruits. The likes of Marvin Martin and Yann MVila are on the Gunners bosses radar ahead of next Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

Newcastle were the final Premier League team to play in the Carling Cup this week and Ryan Taylor once again showed his eye for a killer free-kick for the second game on the trot. Sammy Ameobi spared Alan Pardew’s blushes with his first Magpies goal late in injury time to ensure his side’s progression.

Tony Pulis fielded a strong line-up as Stoke beat FC Thun 4-1 at home to book a place in the Europa League group stages. Robert Huth and Matt Etherington missed out due to suspension, while Jermaine Pennant recovered from a weekend knock sustained at Norwich to take his place in the first X. Kenwyne Jones continued his strong start to the new campaign with a brace and Matthew Upson got his Potters career off to a good start with the opener.

Man United chief executive David Gill reckons the club are done buying for the season ahead. The champions have been linked with a move for Wesley Sneijder all summer but the Dutchman’s astronomical wage demands, coupled with the recent performances of the likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson in central midfield areas, means United are now content with their current squad and Gill said yesterday:

I don’t think there will be another arrival. We’re very comfortable with that. We’ve looked at various players but we’re comfortable with the squad. We’ll progress now and I’m sure Sir Alex will get the best out of them over the next few months. We’re very happy with the squad. We’ve made some great additions and are well equipped for the months ahead.

    Hello chaps!
I am first time here (today:))
havent seen the discussion today maybe it was already mentioned:

How you think will Barton play (home vs FUL) - when on the way out of NEW...???
Wouldnt it be smarter to kick him out now for Brunt or some 7.0 mid?
Who whould you suggest? (other mids: Silva NZb OHara Moses)

Really want to play Given and Moses over Vorm and Fletcher based on fixtures but if i'm going to stick to a new ideal of playing players in form, i have to put in Fletcher and Vorm. 😕

cant argue with Wolves form but I see it as a tight game 1-0 either way (so i'm doubling on Villa - Blackburn should never have scored last week really)...Sunderland however will be all over the Swans (if they can get the ball of course)

Sorry, from bottom of previous page. Any issues with this team:

    Given (Vorm)
Kompany Baines Bosingwa (Simpson – hmmm, Brown)
Yaya Sess Brunt Jarvis Sinclair – who to bench?
    Rooney Torres Saha

If Beckford and Cahill are doubts this is surely good news for Saha? Or should I ditch for Long?

The arrival of Mata and the potential move of Cahill has me pondering:

    S Taylor -> Cahill

However I need to drop a 10mill midfielder to make it.

    Do I go with:
    A) Walcott + Dyer
    B) Mata + Ferguson

Or do I downgrade Bent to Dzeko?

Not sure if I should keep my transfer this week or use it?

    Foster (Given)
Smalling Simpson Alex (Kompany De Laet)
    N'Zog Ramsay Young Silva Moses
    Suarez(c) Torres (A Johnson)

If I was going to transfer would either bring in Bosingwa > Alex or O'Hara > Ramsay, try and raise money to then do A Johnson > Long.

Or should I just leave it as is for this weekend?

Watson is a great choice..esp as on penalties.

Tchoyi is a good punt...rotation question marks, but plays attacking football and can easily score within west brom's favourable fixture run.

Dyer is great for this week...but will be on your bench for some tough swansea fixtures to come.

Out of that lot Watson is the safest. Tchoyi for the gambler.

        @doosra
-whelan is a solid on but doesnt really have a goal threat.
-eagles is away to liverpool so i would have concerns about whether bolton can do well.

        @jonty
-tchoyi is someone ive always rated as he is a handful but against stoke they may be able to cope with him
-dyer would only be for one week as i already have ferguson so have 1 weekly benchwarmer!
-watson on pen duty is why i would consider him.

so i guess its between watson & tchoyi.

Anyone got an opinion on Downing vs Malouda this week. Have Malouda in at the moment because I think Chelsea will hammer Norwich but unsure if he will start/ play over 60 mins.

Downing has looked dangerous in both games so far, cracked the bar vs Sunderland and has been pinging in crosses which Carroll is bound to start converting soon.

    Thoughts?

Secondly Suarez is going to have double figure score most likely , rooney will score at least one for sure or get an assist, I dont know how bent will do, but wolves tend to play attacking football away as well (or theyre just poor?), so maybe bent could score a few also. Anyone else captaining Torres and then dropping him next week even if he scores big? Gonna have two transfers trying to get Adebayor and Mata in sacrificing Man City cover (got Yaya Toure and think that with the Nasri signing, points will be shared between their attackers too much to warrant buying one).

Suarez, but not worth a transfer if you have Carroll.

Forgetting injuries who would you bench from these:

    Cahill, Moses, Barton, Nzogbia, Lucas.........??

Lucas, because if Barton or Moses play they will more likely pick up points! if they dont play then Lucas can come in from your bench!

Jarvis is more attacking and Man City are away to Spurs.

weird saying this but perhaps yaya. seems like he might not have much of an attacking threat this week given last weeks game and the fact they are playing tottenham

That means more money for them so...The last time an Irish club had a great run was Shels (and missed out on group stages CL). Think they bet Hijuk Split along the way. Was great crowds in Landsdowne road for them. Ran Deportivo la Coruna close too..
Hopefully its the start of big things and in years to come there will be Airtricity league fantasy football games with English people playing them 🙂

Squad amazing apart from two glaring exceptions: Dobbie and Surman.

Suggestions for replacing one or both of these players without changing other people in my team? (Moses a good option I know, but injury doubt and I have Watson anyway...)

      Dyer maybe? Hunches appreciated.

Grant Holt now 62-63% to drop on TotalFPL.

Original plan: Save a transfer, then for GW4 downgrade Lamps, use the money to upgrade Holt.

Hadn't considered shipping him but do you think the Price Fall should encourage me to lose patience with the fattie?

Holt > Long is an option.

i'd hold on IT. Think Long will loose appeal once Odem starts starting. Holt is fat though.
Im hoping that the rush of transfers abaits tonight...as i could do with Torres staying at 11m....
im hoping to save a transfer

Yeah with Odem back his stock certainly falls.

I highly doubt the rush of transfers will abait tonight though, if anything it will worsen.

          Thanks for the advice.
