Newcastle have this evening confirmed the capture of Italian international left-back Davide Santon from Inter for an undisclosed fee.

The 20 year-old arrives at St James’ Park on a five-year deal and has immediately been handed the Magpies’ number three shirt.

For Fantasy Managers, that should immediately ring alarm bells. Santon’s arrival presents a significant threat to Ryan Taylor’s position at left-back having seen the former Wigan man establish himself as an early season favourite.

Taylor scored the winning goal in the North East derby win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in Gameweek two and, with 12% ownership (280,000+ owners) in the Fantasy Premier League game, had enjoyed a 0.2 price increase from his initial 4.0 valuation.

Those who were tempted by Taylor’s early season form may have hoped that their man would be set for a sustained run in the starting lineup. Indeed, following his winner at Sunderland, Alan Pardew had suggested that it would be difficult to dislodge Taylor from his starting berth..

“We are trying to bring a left-back in and he is going to have to be a good one to take Ryan out of the teamâ€

But the reality is that Taylor is a right-footed player filling in at left-back – a real short term prospect. Santon, despite being equipped to play either side of defence, has been bought to replace Jose Enrique and Taylor now faces the prospect of dropping to the bench, unless Pardew can find a role in midfield for the set-piece specialist, or consider dropping established starter Danny Simpson on the right.

Santon could now be set to make his debut for the Magpies in what promises to be a tempestuous affair as Newcastle travel to face QPR and Joey Barton on Monday September 12. The new Italian recruit could, theoretically, be facing Barton one-on-one in that fixture – a factor that may convince Pardew to give Santon more time to settle, persevering with Taylor for one more run-out.

One possible knock-on from Taylor’s relegation to the bench, French midfielder Youha Cabaye, who has made an encouraging start to his career at St James’, could now be set for a more prominent role at set-pieces and in particular, direct free-kicks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone approve of this price farming team?

    Krul - Vorm
Bosingwa Smalling Enrique - S.Taylor Ward
Young Nasri Petrov Jarvis - Dyer
    Dzeko Rooney Klasnic

    +4m

After rises: klasnic to suarez, petrov to brunt, S.Taylor to Woodgate.

Evening chaps! What have i missed transfer wise today? Im not convinced by Mertersacker, anyone know him well? Good signing?

Also, isn't Santon better as a right back? Maybe it's Simpsons place which is under threat? Taylor has been playing pretty well hasn't he?

Agreed. Although i think r.taylor will move to right back, then santon at left. Simpson is gone.

I found a link that proved Mertesacker was a fair bit quicker than EBJT (can't remember where exactly, it was on an Arsenal forum), but it got swallowed by the spam filter when I posted it.

Much prefer him to Cahill in any case.

if Andre Santos is first choice, he'll be the one to look at. Scored an average of 1 in 5 in Turkey.

Yeah i definitely prefer him over Cahill. Was hoping for Alex though. EBJT? Where do you see Park fitting in, back up for Van Persie? He doesn't look like a player who can play on the wings...

          England's Brave John Terry.

Yeah, Park is going to be back up. I thought he looked decent enough at the world cup. Mobile, technical and hard working.

We've got the squad depth sorted today, now it's time for the quality signings.

Can't believe we waited so long to get this all done!

He was a disaster last season, but Wenger's been a fan for a while.

Before his whole "Nursery of Europe" thing, Wenger liked reviving talented players' careers (Overmars, Kanu, Henry, Vieira). Gorcuff would be an old-school Wenger signing.

My money would be on him being used as a left back, but his versatility means that Simpson owners should be worried too.

Hypothetically he could raise everyday. Once a day. By 0.1

But to do so his uptake would have to be astronomical. Probably to the point of millions more people joining the game and signing him or something.

He will rise when his ownership crosses certain thresholds, probably max 4 or 5 times before lockdown.

Google fiso crack the code. They have a section explaining how they think it works. To answer your question Rooney will not go up everyday. He may get to 12.2 by the next deadline but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

When a player rises, his chance to rise resets to 0.

Many more people need to add the player after this rise for them to rise again.

So it's impossible for a player to rise by 0.2 in one day.

And extremely unlikely he will rise regularly.

E.g. Vorm = 167% rise chance. After today, he will be 4.1m and have a 0% chance of rising.

I've flushed my WC. There is absolutely NO point me or any other Wildcarders asking for something like RMT, when the next 10 days are nothing more than a price-chase.

It makes no difference what my team is today because in WC conditions, it will change tomorrow and be unregnisable by 10 September. Updates of RMTs are useless and pointless for at least the next week.

Sorry to be a downer on a FPL site but this topic is redundant for WC players and those reading ther posts.

      Oh I love that.

First list of that kind in ages that is believable too, previous ones always used to be filled up with centre backs making them dodgy.

Hadn't realised Albrighton was that quick, and would've thought Hernandez was faster than Rooney and Young.

    First season playing this properly and im already leading all my mini leagues thanks mainly to big points on Bent and Rooney captaining in the past couple weeks. With this in mind im thinking attacking points are easier to predict than defensive ones so am thinking of downgrading my defence a little to upgrade the attacking talent. At the moment my team is;

    Given/Vorm

    Kompany, Smalling, Enrique, Bosingwa, Simpson

    Adam, Silva, Jarvis, Cabaye, Moses

    Rooney, Bent, Long

What are thoughts on the following to ensure three top strikers

    Kompany -> Shawcross
    Bent -> Suarez
    Long -> Dzeko

Have £1.5m in the bank at the moment so could do this with £0.2 to spare?

    2 quick questions.

    1. why have newcastle signed the charlton keeper, surely not to take krul's spot?

    2. watched cotes at copa briefly - awesome. who's position is under threst from him?

I don't know. It's worrying but krul has played well, and newcastle have been solid in defence. Maybe it's just competition to keep krul playing well.

      1. Is Krul Newcastle's No.1 or is he filling in for Harper? (not sure if he I'd injured or not). This new keeper will probably be No.3.

      2. Probably Skrtel. Carragher & Agger are first choice & Krygiakos has left.

Does anyone want to try this fantasy game, only one of each player on the game and highest bidder get the player. Here are some rules http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OLifjYy5ew

Used to do this at school but a draft is definitely a lot more simple than an auction format. People don't budget properly and just end up with £5m for 5 players at the end 🙂

Looks a bit too complicated to me. Selling at market value etc etc

I'd love it if it was just a game where you were 5-10 people and took turns drafting 11 players, and nobody could be picked by more than one player.

Is there no game like that around?

lol that would be good. Ideally everyone would just create another team on the FPL website and let them run all the scoring/league etc etc.

Our basic idea was to each draft 15 players and then everyone else is a free agent. Everyone can swap their own monor players with those who are free agents but the last person to draft gets first pick of the freebies and so on (basically waivers in US sports)

hahaha it is quite cool. Used to run one every year at school but that was a lot easier to sort out as everyone was always in the same place at the same time!

If we can get about 10 people interested maybe we could give it a go after the transfer window closes? A few simple rules and it should work fine.

The transfers are quite fun as well because you can only trade big players between each other. Tests your monopoly style bargaining skills!

                    Yes, that would work.

With Soup that makes us 5, and perhaps Attila to take the number to 6.

We'd need a time when everybody could be around for 1-2 hours I suppose, and a smart way for everybody to remember which players are picked and not.

I guess either we'd just have to write it down ourselves or we could use something like Google Docs to update it live or a document that we e-mail?

                    Cool MF!

It's all very simple apart from the draft that may be a little but not overly tricky to organize. Most importantly I think we need to do it when everybody knows it might take a few hours.

Yeah just a pen and paper to start with then everyone can load their teams onto FPL (assuming they are under £100m which they should be if we have enough people).

After christmas you'd basically never have to care Soup. As soon as the draft is done you have your team set and can only trade players with others which won't happen much.

                    I think? 🙂

We'd have to agree on how transfers would work.

It would suck if two players transferred in the same 'free agent' without checking with eachother for example. Either we don't allow unpicked players to be bought at all or we come up with something smart.

It shouldn't be THAT hard to organise if we could find interested people who went on here at least every few days and worked with, as you say, a simple set of rules.

Yeah i think so. Otherwise it means someone having to sit down and work out the points. Plus people can log on when they like to change their teams, see the league etc. Otherwise they have to submit their teams to someone and it just gets a lot of work.

Shouldn't be a problem with FPL i don't think. I know it is technically a second team but they won't have any ressemblance to our proper teams and will hardly have any transfers.

We must, at all costs, keep Steven Gerrard off of corners and free kicks within scoring range. He has an aerial presence, and, more importantly, is terrible at them.

Trouble is you won't be able to have young and nasri/silva. Not worth a nasri +1.5m in my opinion

Do we get 2 wildcards? if so, should i WC?

    Given, Ruddy
    Bosingwa, Kompany, Brown, Senderos, Simpson
    Silva, Malouda, Sinclair, N’Zogbia, Moses
    Torres, Bent, Holt

Would i still be fit to make some money despite missing the risers last night? Thanks for the advise.

Haven't I seen this b4? Please just go to fpl and look at the rules before asking questions you should really know the answers too.

I seem to be moody again!

While i agree i should have checked on FPL for the answer it would have taken you less time to just say Yes/No. I take your point on board though 🙂

Wildcard is not the answer you are looking for.
