Arsenal have announced the completion of a reported £6 million deal to bring Brazilian left-back to the Emirates from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The 28 year-old has signed a long-term year deal for the Gunners and will rival Kieran Gibbs for the role on the left of the Arsene Wenger’s back four; Gibbs is currently crocked – a familiar situation and one which has no doubt driven the Arsenal boss into the transfer market having seen both Gael Clichy and Armand Traore leave the club.

The Statisitics

Santos arrives at the Emirates having made 52 appearances over two seasons for the Turks, notching an impressive 10 goals on the way. He arrived at Fenerbache in 2009, plucked from Corinthians where he made 59 appearances, finding the net on 9 occasions.

Those statistics provide a good insight into a player who possesses a superb left-foot which can often provide a potent attacking weapon. His swashbuckling style is Inevitably compared Roberto Carlos; Santos ironically replaced the Brazilian legend when he arrived at Fenerbache. Like Carlos, Arsenal’s new signing can be devastating going forward but has been accused of losing concentration at the back and his general defensive play has been called into question. So much so, Dunga omitted Santos from his 2010 World Cup squad, preferring Michel Bastos and the Tottenham flop that was Gilberto.

The Prospects

Santos has strong attacking potential which, if he settles in quickly, should see him usurp Kieran Gibbs for the left-back role. Wenger will be looking to use Santos’ strong running down the left to partner with Gervinho, perhaps relying on two holding midfielders and Thomas Vermalen’s awareness to help cover any gaps and defensive lapses. The Fantasy potential is there then, if Wenger looks set to favour Santos over the fragile Gibbs but we’ve seen many times before that Brazilian signings can be hit and miss in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger said upon completion of the deal:

“Santos is a quality player, with the ability to both defend well and get forward and help with attacks. He has experience in the Champions League and for Brazil and has proven he can deliver at the highest level. We welcome Santos to the Club and look forward to him having a big impact for us.”

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Hello!

Arsenal still needs a midfielder. And Mata will be a fantastic prospect for FPL!

Can i make you some questions?

1 – I have already made 3 substitutions for Gw4. But, the exibitions of Rooney and Nasri motivates me to thinking about to use my wildcard, now.
If i play the WC i’ll loose the points (8) for the transfers i have already made? Or the wildcard will cancel these points loss?

2 – Why the Bonus sistem is different (and how can interpretate the EA Sports PPI game by game) ?

3 – Why the ‘Gameweek Price Rise’ item have dissapeared?

Fair play to Blackburn, spending a little money, not sure if Yakubu is the answer but if Di Santo and Hoillet play well and the defense improves as it should with Dann and Samba then they might have enough to stay up.

I'd say Dzeko and Walcott, there both noth only the cheaper option but Dzeko is on form and Walcott is good Arsenal coverage for there upcoming fixtures.

If Spurs think they can manage to sell Modric and buy Rossi within today, so they really should. Modric would do a Fabregas this season to Spurs and be gone next transfer window or summer anyway.

      Hello!

      Young Dzeko and Rooney!

1 - wildcard at any time during the GW and - points deducted. Next GW you get 1 free transfer.

2 - Unless someone is keeping a spreadsheet week by week you won't have any way to tell.

3 - It got in the way of the pretty 3D kits.

1 - Yeah, the wildcard will cancel out the 8 points - which haven't actually been deducted yet, they get deducted when the game re-opens after the deadline on Saturday morning.

2 - I guess they changed it because they were getting so many complaints about the subjective system they had in place previously.

        3. No idea. Just one of many ridiculous changes they made, for the worse.

I'm guessing you're trying to make up some grounds by having both Walcott and RVP in hoping that Arsenal will bounce back well in the next few easy fixtures?

I really think having both of them is overkill atm. In fact, i doubt Arsenal will recover that quickly. They will struggle for a while at least.

I was thinking Vorm and Kenny too. Was wondering whether its worth an extra .5 to go for this or just sack it off and go Vorm Ruddy and spend elsewhere. Vorm and Ruddy don't rotate too badly, though you would obviously have to play Vorm away at Arsenal this week - Which isn't terrible as if RVP takes penalties like he did last week you'll be fine.

I really think that calls to transfer Mata in at this stage are very premature.

It also seems wrong to go without RVP for such an excellent run of fixtures. I'd never ever feel confident captaining Walcott, or even Dzeko because of the risk of rotation. I'd imagine that I'll captain RVP at least 5 times in the next 8 weeks.

I'm prepared to lose Walcott, but it doesn't really help in my efforts to get Rooney!

Could easily have gone very differently had the pen gone in, but you can say that about the United game too I suppose.

I have Walcott at present, I'm just not confident are good enough to warrant 12mil on any of their players. I won't captain him, but there's plenty of other options.

Can definitely see the reasoning behind getting RVP but the problem with great fixtures is that sometimes you suddenly realise they've happened without anything good happening xD

I feel like there's an upside to just having Theo whereas Silva's ownership means captaining him can give the edge over other people. Plus I just trust him a little bit more. Defensive move perhaps, but I got hurt this week with Lamps vs. Rooney xD

What's wrong with Taarabt, Long and Jarvis? Have you looked at the fixtures at all?

yes just think are better options available when money is spread around.

Jarvis (yes remember from last year) is alright but Hunt, Doyle Fletcher will all share points.
Id prob rather Brunt over him.

Long is a waste of a striker position and Tarrbart is not going to score a huge amount for his price.

Buzaky at 4.5mil is a cheap bench option who played behind the striker in 2 recent games for QPR and did as well fantasy wise as tarrbart.

Lampard has had one shot on target all season - a penalty.

Royston Drenthe to Everton on a free is quite a good transfer in my opinion. May consider getting him in if he's around the 6mil mark.

Roma sign Gago on loan. Ugh, wish they'd qualified for the EL backed them to win it at 16/1 a few weeks ago. 😡

Roma are close to crisis by people in Italy.

Enrique is already under pressure, has falling out with Totti and the press and some in the club are starting to move towards supporting Totti over him

      Money saved 🙂

Hi Donal. Seems to me Roma are having a good transfer window at least.

Kjaer (loan), Stekelenburg, Gago, Bojan, Pjanic, Osvaldo

yep very nice players there. Just seems Totti and politics are problem

Him getting old and not wanting to accept a lesser role will be a problem

      Its good deal if so.

Arteta could thrive in Arsenal set up.

Im unconvinced. He's 29 and very injury prone. If it was the Arteta from a few years back i'd be happy but considering we've lost Cesc and Nasri Arteta is nowhere near enough. Underwhelming signing if it goes through. We are also going to lose Song, Gervinho and possibly Frimpong to the ACON in January.

+1 Arteta is one the good options for you right now. He's a technical player with PL experience. He'll definitely settle in faster than some foreign players like Hazard. 10m is not much compared to recent inflated deals.

Would be a great signing. Experience, has some class, versatile, not too expensive.

Can't tell if you're an Arsenal or Everton fan, but that would be a good deal for Arsenal.

Dzeko Young and Rooney....doing this, i'll be taking a 4 point hit
    OR
Bent Walcott and Rooney...doing this, I''ll be losing Mata but no hit
