Sunderland have not had the best of starts to the league season. Despite bringing in ten new players during the summer, Steve Bruce’s side have just two points and one goal to show for their endeavours so far. The Black Cats boss therefore moved to address this yesterday by snapping up Nicklas Bendtner on a season-long loan.

Bruce is no stranger to Bendtner- he has previously taken the player on loan when in charge of Birmingham City and it was there that the big Dane had his most successful season to date. The club’s assistant boss Eric Black also worked with Bendtner at St Andrews and his statement last night certainly suggests he knows exactly how to handle a player famous for his self-belief:

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Nicklas, who is an established Barclays Premier League player now. Nicklas had a big impact on our season at Birmingham when he arrived as a youngster and I’m sure he’ll do the same again. He’s a big, physical lad with a good touch, good movement and he’ll certainly bring something to the party.

I’m sure he’ll be looking to come here and prove to the supporters how good a player he is. He probably has more chance of playing first-team football here, and if he grasps it there’s no reason why he can’t be a top, top player.

The Stats

Born and raised in Denmark but a product of the Arsenal academy from his teenage years, Bendtner had been with Arsenal for seven years until now.

His first true action came in the 2006/07 season when Arsene Wenger loaned him out to Championship side Birmingham City for the season which started to blossom the self-belief that we know all know too well by now.

He has remained at The Emirates ever since and turned out 98 times for the Gunners in the four seasons that followed, scoring 22 goals. Mainly accustomed to being back-up to the likes of Robin Van Persie, the Great Dane made well over half of those appearances from the bench.

The Prospects

Not short on self-confidence, Bendtner will undoubtedly believe that he will be an unprecedented success while with Sunderland.

Priced rather nicely at just 6.4 (cheaper than current striker Asamoah Gyan) in the Fantasy Premier League he will provide a promising option for when Fantasy Managers want to back the Sunderland offense.

Despite all the bluster, he is a talented striker who can play with the ball at his feet as much as in the air. Inconsistency has always been an issue but with the support of the Sunderland midfield he’ll likely be dished up more than a few chances. Fantasy Managers won’t want another Burnley on our hands again.

The move certainly brings Stephane Sessegnon’s role in the Sunderland XI into question. Bruce has been playing him behind Gyan in a 4-4-1-1, but with one goal in their four games in all competitions, a move back to 4-4-2 could be in the manager’s thinking. Such a scenario would certainly dim Sessegnon’s Fantasy appeal as an out-of-position player, with the Black Cats boss playing Bendtner alongside Gyan up front as he looks to boost the Black Cats firepower.

Early thoughts guys, im not playing my WC, I've currently got Cahill and Id like to keep him for the next 2, considering I have Dzeko and no Arsenal players which would u have:

    A) Walcott
    B) Nasri / Silva
    C) Both, sell Cahill for a 4 pointer

Very difficult. I can't see the point in a hit (pun intended!) but I guess you have to go with Citeh on form.

Yeah I'm reluctant to get rid of Cahill, I said if give him 4 games so I will, could even end up playing up front with Evertons striking situations if the new lad isn't ready yet and Saha breaks.

Im really tempted by Walcott tho, think he could tear Swansea a new one but City against Wigan could be a massacre and to only have Dzeko who could even be benched, seems mad.

I have the same kind of problems with my wc team. Roll the dice time 🙁

I don't think a points hit is worth it and I would keep Cahill (just as I kept Torres!).

Looks strong enough. You defence is struggling because of Baines. You could have S.Taylor & Baines or Kompany & 6.5 (Santon?) Tough call, becasue Baines does have a lot of potential.

But Senderos was benched for Baird to play on the right. So I presume Jol wasn't happy for that right back spot and that is why he signed Grygera. Hmmmmm.... There I see some logic than. And I agree with my mate who is Gooners fan that Senderos was/is useless.

        Isn't like this

Right back is minefield: Kelly, Hughes, Grygera, Baird could all play there. Hughes started in right back than Baird was given some chances so maybe the new signing Grygera will be right back or Hughes when Senderos is played in the center. With Grygera priced 5.0m it seem that the FPL towers believe that he is starter. So I am not sure will he play left or right back. Apparently he could play anywhere in the back. (from WIki: "He is usually a right back or centre back but can play anywhere in defence".)

Center back: Hangelland, Hughes, Senderos, Grygera even. So before the Europa games also possible rotation

Left back: Risse nailed on but injured than Briggs and maybe. but I hope not Grygera too.

I believe that Fulham defense is worth an investment that is why I am referring to this debate. Opinion?

None of them for now IMO. Ade is big hit and miss. One of the form guys. I will think getting him for the Arsenal game, not before. And regarding Ruiz, that goal scoring record in Holland its not always never replicated in England IMO.

Both of them are wait and see IMO.

    Krul, Vorm
Bosingwa, Warnock, De Laet, Ward, Woodgate
    Walcott, Silva, Young, Moses, Dyer
    Rooney, Dzeko, Suarez

Too much with both Moses(performed badly, bad fixtures) AND Dyer in midfield, just so I can fit inn so many high prized offencive players? If I I din't follow United then I would propably have no problem with downgrading Young, but I hate to watch United games and telling myself: "please not let Young be the one to score, half the players in my minleague got him". Form is temporary, class is permanent... RVP will always be in the goals, and him and Walcott both scored at Old Trafford with hardly any support, just imagine RVP now being fed through by Arteta and Santos!

As much as it pains me to say it, Adebayor is a goalscorer. He's always started off on fire for a new club. Tottenahm are an attacking side and will create a lot of chances. His fixtures are decent aswell. Im getting him.

He's alright, but the snowball effect on here is mental, it's as if Messi joined the league.

He has been in FPL before you know in 2 better teams and he was a shite prospect then , not sure what has changed.

          Harry Redknapp happened.

Seriously though, because city didn't play him people forgot how awesome he was, and for 8m in a creative spurs team; bargain. I can see a lot of bale and VDV passes reaching him!

N'Zogbia -> Arteta or Walcott, price isn't an issue.

Arteta 50% to a rise, and not protected so will have to be done before saturday night I think, possibly even tomorrow.

You'd be raving mad to get rid of Rooney - hard to say whether there'll be a 4-0 backlash by Arsenal v the Swans or whether it will be a nervy 1-0 or 2-0 (or even 2-1).

      Walcott is enough coverage imho.

Anyone else tempted by Hargreaves? I thinking I might be going crazy, but at 5.0 he is cheap and with the internationals there will most likely be players rested against Wigan.

When does Yaya go to the African thingy majiggy?

He's £5.0m for a reason - last played November 2010; fitness of an 80 year old and competing with De Jong, Barry and Yaya for a holding midfield role...and I used to like him at United 🙂

Baines is a right pain in the butt for my team - generously got 9 points last time and now will hog the set-pieces, penalties etc. Do worry about the assists though...have Everton got a decent striker to put the ball in the back of the net?

I'm tempted to agree with you, but my midfield is a little on the light side as a consequence. Nasri will come in for Yaya and Dzeko for Torres; but I won't have Arsenal coverage...which, for a change, worries me...
