Sunderland have not had the best of starts to the league season. Despite bringing in ten new players during the summer, Steve Bruce’s side have just two points and one goal to show for their endeavours so far. The Black Cats boss therefore moved to address this yesterday by snapping up Nicklas Bendtner on a season-long loan.

Bruce is no stranger to Bendtner- he has previously taken the player on loan when in charge of Birmingham City and it was there that the big Dane had his most successful season to date. The club’s assistant boss Eric Black also worked with Bendtner at St Andrews and his statement last night certainly suggests he knows exactly how to handle a player famous for his self-belief:

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Nicklas, who is an established Barclays Premier League player now. Nicklas had a big impact on our season at Birmingham when he arrived as a youngster and I’m sure he’ll do the same again. He’s a big, physical lad with a good touch, good movement and he’ll certainly bring something to the party.

I’m sure he’ll be looking to come here and prove to the supporters how good a player he is. He probably has more chance of playing first-team football here, and if he grasps it there’s no reason why he can’t be a top, top player.

The Stats

Born and raised in Denmark but a product of the Arsenal academy from his teenage years, Bendtner had been with Arsenal for seven years until now.

His first true action came in the 2006/07 season when Arsene Wenger loaned him out to Championship side Birmingham City for the season which started to blossom the self-belief that we know all know too well by now.

He has remained at The Emirates ever since and turned out 98 times for the Gunners in the four seasons that followed, scoring 22 goals. Mainly accustomed to being back-up to the likes of Robin Van Persie, the Great Dane made well over half of those appearances from the bench.

The Prospects

Not short on self-confidence, Bendtner will undoubtedly believe that he will be an unprecedented success while with Sunderland.

Priced rather nicely at just 6.4 (cheaper than current striker Asamoah Gyan) in the Fantasy Premier League he will provide a promising option for when Fantasy Managers want to back the Sunderland offense.

Despite all the bluster, he is a talented striker who can play with the ball at his feet as much as in the air. Inconsistency has always been an issue but with the support of the Sunderland midfield he’ll likely be dished up more than a few chances. Fantasy Managers won’t want another Burnley on our hands again.

The move certainly brings Stephane Sessegnon’s role in the Sunderland XI into question. Bruce has been playing him behind Gyan in a 4-4-1-1, but with one goal in their four games in all competitions, a move back to 4-4-2 could be in the manager’s thinking. Such a scenario would certainly dim Sessegnon’s Fantasy appeal as an out-of-position player, with the Black Cats boss playing Bendtner alongside Gyan up front as he looks to boost the Black Cats firepower.

Please help - I'm second in my family league but 100 points behind the leader. I'm going to risk my wildcard but have 3 options, can I ask your options?
    All 3 have a core of :-
    Ruddy Al_habsi
    Enrique Huth Taylor S
    Arteta Silva Mata Jarvis
    Suarez Ruiz

Option 1) Brown (sun) Warnock Petrov (bol) Aguero
Option 2) Baines De Laet Meireles Sturridge
Option 3) Santos De Laet Meirles Adebayor

100 pts is not insurmountable, but definitely need to differentiate.

I would question your core to start. Taking Ruiz who might play out wide as a striker is a risk. Mata a risk as well, but one I like (and will likely take myself).

I might re-think you options. Not sure investing in Baines right now makes sense given the state of Everton. Meireles is also a big risk as you have no idea where he might slot in. Sturridge won't play every week.

Wes Brown and Warnock are good shouts, and Petrov could pay off although you need to consider the implications of N'Gog and Kakuta coming to Bolton.

      Maybe try some more combinations...

An extremely handy article would be one that lists all of the comings and goings in the premier league, and just briefly highlights each moves possible impact on the player in question, those in his new time (i.e. who might have to make way) and those in the team he left (i.e. who might now get starts).

    Who to keep...

    Bosingwa or Kompany?

Can only keep one and its a painful decision. Kompany has the higher clean sheet potential, bos has the higher assist potential.

yeah the west brom and norwich games were worries, wouldn't even put it down to hilario at all. i blame their front six struggling so much that they kept squeezing up and up, bosingwa and cole both got more desperate and squeezed up and up too to try and force something to happen and they got caught out and isolated defensively too easily on the break as a result. as soon as the rest of the side sorts itself out and luiz (pace) and cech slot back in i think they'll return to the normally solid defence.

When we get things sorted out I reckon we'll totally overwhelm sides, at least the lesser sides. With the high defensive line and pressing like mad in the midfield, teams won't be able to cope. There will be some hammerings at the Bridge this season, just not quite yet. It's a work in progress.

Can't have three players from each teams. Have to then choose expensive players based on the fixtures. Having those three United players stops you from getting other expensive players in from teams with vastly superior fixtures.

Think there might be some you've missed. Off the top of my head, Gyan instead of Drogba would be a strong attack. If you stretched the rules a bit you could include the likes of Sagna. Kolo returns for City in two weeks

Was going to do Lamps to Arteta and Graham to Dzeko last night as price for Dzeko looked like going up, but was reliable advised that Crack the Code was showing he would stay put on £8.6m.

Foolishly listened and, yup, up went Dzeko to £8.7m today!!!!

Normally don't like doing transfers this early on international break but Dzeko looks like going up again so I think it has to be done tonight now!

i don't think he'll go beyond 8.8 for the next gameweek, max.

don't know what the level is but having checked the % of ownership i think that players rise in price every 4% increase or so.

depends how confident you are at him keepig the beatly elokobi out. should ward stay in the side i like his overlapping threat and extra 0.5mil. if you want the security of knowing your pick is rotation proof then johnson is probably worth shelling out the little extra for. he's still a half decent goal threat himself from set-pieces

So, should I get rid of Baines or Lampard to make space for getting Graham out and Dzeko in?

Not convinced Everton are going anywhere now, even if Baines is on pens and Lamps is still captain material. Easier to get better players in if I get rid of Lamps later.
