Steven Gerrard edges closer to a first-team return. Capello inisists Wayne Rooney will be fine. Rafael Van der Vaart is set for six weeks on the sidelines while Mikel Arteta’s departure has Jack Rodwell eyeing up a regular starting position. Carlos Tevez is looking forward to his return to the Man City starting XI and QPR’s new owner Tony Fernandez is -allegedly- lining up a loan move for none other than David Beckham. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

Jack Rodwell is looking to the positive side of Mikel Arteta’s Everton exit. The young midfielder struggled with injury last term but feels he is now 100% fit and is hoping to step up to the task of filling the gap left by the Spaniard’s last-minute deadline day departure:

Mikel is a great player…he will be sorely missed. But we’ve got a lot of young players who can fill in. I’m ready to step up and fill his boots, definitely.

What I’ve been missing in my career is 30 games back to back and getting a good run of form and confidence, so hopefully this season I can do that. I’m ready now. I feel fit, I feel sharp and focused. I believe this is the season for me.

Fabio Capello has moved to allay fears of an injury to Wayne Rooney. The Man United forward picked up the problem in England’s 3-0 win in Bulgaria and with Fantasy managers fretting over his availability, the Italian confirmed he expects his star man to be fit for the midweek game against Wales:

Rooney has a problem with his foot but I think he should be okay for Tuesday. It’s a different part of his foot. His big toe. It’s nothing, I think but we will have to wait for a minimum of 24 hours.

Steven Gerrard is nearing a return to first-team action. The Liverpool midfielder has been out since mid-March with a groin problem and has played just six times since Kenny Dalglish returned to the Anfield club, but reckons he could be ready for a mid-September showdown with Spurs in Gameweek 5:

‘I won’t be involved against Stoke next Saturday but my plan is to hopefully be involved in the game against Tottenham. It will be Kenny’s decision when I come back in.’

New QPR owner Tony Fernandes has wasted little time in bankrolling a number of signings since arriving at the club last month. Next up on his radar is none other than David Beckham. The LA Galaxy midfielder is out of contract in October and is allegedly considering a return to the Premier League- Fernandes is looking to boost the club’s profile and in that respect, Beckham would clearly fit the bill.

According to reports, Carlos Tevez is now content with his stay at Man City. The Argentine has been itching to leave the Etihad Stadium and has made no secret of his dislike of the area but seems to have been won round and is looking forward to turning out for Roberto Mancini’s side in the imminent future:

I think I’ll be playing again soon. I don’t think I’ll have lost my place because I’m captain and the symbol of a big club like City. I feel like everything is different to last year. Now I’m with my wife and daughters in England.’

Shane Long has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland’s game against Russia on Tuesday with a calf problem. The West Brom forward has bagged two goals in his first three games and Roy Hodgson will be sweating over his fitness ahead of next weekend’s trip to Norwich, with Peter Odemwingie also sidelined with an ankle injury.

Rafael Van der Vaart’s hamstring problems continue to play up. The Dutchman limped off in Tottenham’s recent 5-1 home hammering by Man City and, according to the club’s official website, looks to be sidelined for six weeks. This could promote Emmanuel Adayor to penalties, boosting the Fantasy merits of the loan signing as Harry Redknapp’s side look to bounce back from two straight defeats.

        thanks!

This brings me to another question.
Who is better to have for this gwk only?

        Rvp or Rooney?

I'm leaning towards RVP for the 2 gwks and then getting Rooney.

Opinions on worthwhile Stoke coverage anyone?

Is Whelan worth a punt at 5.0 or is his recent assist likely to be his last?

Also what defensive coverage would be good options between Huth, Shawcross and Woodgate?

    Dont understand price rises much,

    Used WC and have my team value at 101.1, what are the chances of jarvis rising twice more before next GW? My team is;

    .1 in bank

    Krul Vorm
Bos Simpson De Laet STaylor Taylor(swa)
    Young Nasri Silva Dyer Petrov
    Rooney Suarez Dzeko

If i want to maximise my team value before next round what should i do? Thanks

Final team (I hope!). Changed a bit from yesterday. Thoughts?

    Given, Vorm

    Kompany, Enrique, Warnock, Ward, Simpson

    Nasri, Young, Brunt, Petrov, Dyer

    RvP, Dzeko, Suarez

I'm ok with 2 avl defenders for now (and it let me upgrade dyer to petrov). Have money in the bank, so going to switch young to arteta, and then brunt to mata in 2 weeks based on fixtures.

I don't think so. Coyle tends to play his loanees a lot, but if anyone loses out, I think it will be eagles. Also, petrov takes corners, so his upside is pretty high for a 5.5 player. I'm assuming that's why a lot of people have been talking about him?

That said, fixtures aren't great right now. I am WCing though, so need to get him in now.

I tend to disagree. Sunderland haven't scored since game 1 and have tough fixtures (IMO) against Chelsea and Stoke who defend well. The only easy games I see in the next few are WBA and Bolton. He also doesn't seem to be getting 90 mins and keeps getting subbed off.

Hutton to slot in immediately at Villa? Herd was pretty decent at RB in the game against Wolves, and Hutton hasn't played that much football....

Basically need a defender for 5.0, and Villa's fixtures rotate near perfectly with my defence, as do Wolves'. So have to chose between Hutton, Warnock, Johnson and Ward. Thoughts?

I'd go for Ward mate, frees up cash and your defense is good otherwise so no need to spend another £5m. Wait until after Tuesday though, Russia-Ireland.

Long term I would go with Ward; almost certain to get some midfield or striker time at some point in the season. Wolves defence will benefit from Johnson's involvement no end this year, but you can still profit from that with another (slightly cheaper) member of the back 4.

The masses won't look at it like that though, and his scores so far, the main thing that the casual player looks at, haven't been good as his performances.

I would say more 3 or 4 bad games than 1 or 2, but the casual player is not level headed enough to sit on a player that isn't returning points while others people in his price bracket are.

OK, anyone looking at Santos? At 6.5 he's expensive but aresnals fixtures are good and he can score a goal alright for a wing back..

He's had a good goalscoring record at Corinthians and Fenerbache. Likes to go forward, I've got him.

I just hope he doesn't end up being the 4th Arsenal player in 4 games to get a red card.

Alright, couple options to weigh up.

    A. Krul, Hutton, Arteta, Brunt/Jarvis (23.5)

    B. Given, Simpson, Walcott, Brunt/Jarvis (24)

    C. Krul, Hutton, Walcott, Petrov (24)

Ideally it'd be A with Walcott instead of Arteta whichll happen if a couple of price rises go my way.
Also I already have Jarvis so ignore .1difs.

Yep, 3 assists and MOM playing Man Utd in his 4th game proved that.

      Pretty much.
When he's on form he'll get goals or assists against anyone.
And I'd say he's on form now.

Depends if you have any Arsenal cover (RVP/Walcott) already. If not, then Arteta.

Warnock is more assured of a starting place.

Exactly. Hutton might not even start for a couple of games given how long he's been out for.

One option depends on attacking returns and the other on defensive returns so...

    Moses and Ward or

    Dyer and Enrique

I have Ward and Dyer. Both represent better value imo.
I think the .5 is better spent elsewhere.

Hmmm, Nasri or Mata? Nasri is more established but I already have Silva. Think Mata will get less game time too, any thoughts?
