Fantasy managers will be reeling from this morning’s news that Leighton Baines has withdrawn from the England squad with a hamstring injury picked up in training.

The FA have released a statement on the matter, saying only:

“Leighton Baines has returned to Everton, having sustained an injury in training on Sunday. Baines has been ruled out of England’s Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales on Tuesday evening, and is now with his club for further treatment. No replacement has been called into the squad.”

Last season’s top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender must be considered a major doubt for Everton’s weekend fixture at home to Aston Villa, then. With another Goodison showdown the following week against Wigan, his 236K Fantasy owners would have been anticipating some decent returns, particularly with the left-back on set-pieces and penalties in light of Mikel Arteta’s departure to Arsenal.

It’s a tricky one- Baines’ price (8.0) takes up a large chunk of our early-season budgets and there’s certainly no point in having him benched if he proves to be unavailable for those upcoming fixtures. Until the club assess the player and make any official statement, though, it’s a case of “wait and see” right now for his Fantasy owners- the potential is clearly there for Baines is Gameweeks 4 and 5 and to bail out now before any confirmation by David Moyes would be folly.

Damn you Baines. I may have to hold off on my Sessegnon to Walcott transfer now, and lose Baines instead.

Who would be good to bring in?

Probs any attacking wing back you can afford... Bosy, Enrique, Richards (He'll Play I'm Sure) etc

Wouldn't want to go too low a price, would want to make sure I could get him back in if the injury only proves to be minor - so Cashley fits the bill for me.

Hmmm Cahill > Walcott GW4 then Yaya > Mata GW5 looking more tempting than the sensible transfer of Senderos > Enrique GW4 and then who ever looks hot for GW5

surely you'd want cahill for his two home fixtures? appreciate that walcott has great fixtures so I'd try and get him in without sacrificing cahill.

Would it have been a good tactic to play your wild card at the very start of this GW to fill your team full of likely price risers and then sell on the players for profit whilst picking your best 15 before start of GW4??

There will be other windows but generally speaking thisone will work best as the majority of FF managers still like to tinker with their team at the start of a season which means lots of price changes 🙂

Unfortunately didn't realise and too late now

Surely 2 week break also gives twice the time for price risers to take effect??

Too late now, but yees its good for double risers, and good if a couple of players had storn=ming weeks, so everyone jumps on them.
Next WC window is GW 7 to 8 I think for the next International break

right, my team is far from being great anyway, and Baines' injury was the last thing I needed now...
Nzog's drop in price was inevitable though, I'm a bit surprised it happened so late... have got to live with it, it's better to lose 0.1 then get a player who'll get injured tomorrow

A on the basis that although Ruiz has a great scoring record in the dutch league he is unproven in the prem so too much of a risk taking up a valuable striker spot.

You waited a week, but then didn't wait the rest despite missing two of Dzeko's rises! That's very amaturish in my opinion.

Points > Cash remember. It seemed like you realised this, only to fall foul of your greed for 0.1M's, and you dutifully got punished for this slip! 😀

I'm considering a sixteen point hit, since I'm six clear at the top of my league.

      Bosingwa in for Kompany
      Nasri for Adam
      Jarvis for Yaya
      Suarez for Klasnic

I've already done Dzeko for Aguero before the price rise. I have a spare 0.1 available so I could have Silva instead of Nasri. Still debating that one.

Kompany is almost certain to get a cleanie, so you'll be losing out with the Bos transfer. I wouldn't bother with Jarvis/Yaya either, at least it's not a vital transfer. Just do Suarez and Nasri.

Would anyone take a sixteen point hit and keep the wildcard for later in the season, like if there's a good double gameweek for example? Bear in mind I'm six points clear at the top of my league.

8pt would be the most I'd consider

Agree. Spending points is a very bad habit to get into unless there's a very good reason, such as multiple DGW, for example.

Only if you reckon you'll need a 20 point hit later in the season...and I would hope you don't.

      This is what I'm planning:

      Bosingwa in for Kompany
      Nasri for Adam
      Jarvis for Yaya
      Suarez for Klasnic

I’ve already done Dzeko for Aguero before the price rise. I have a spare 0.1 available so I could have Silva instead of Nasri. Still debating that one.

    I'm dropping T. Cahill + N'Zogbia + Torres

and wondering which option should I take:

    A. Brunt + Silva + Rooney and 0.4 in the bank
    B. Brunt + Silva + RvP and 0.6 in the bank

I could also drop Clint Dempsey instead of T. Cahill and still could do those combinations.

what to do ? advices ?

A is the safe bet, but I personally like gambling aka. B 😛
Figure RVP will elevate in the next few gameweeks

I have just checked my team for the first time in over a wek and i have a value of 99.8 and a team which includes - cole, lampard, torres, bent, martin, bardsley to name a few. I wish i used my W/C at the start of the GW but I was unable to access the inet. is it worth it just braving it this week (got 2 free) and save the wildcard for a better opertunity?

I would. The main benefit to playing your WC this week is to make some cash. If you've missed that boat (which you have), I'd just use your 2 transfers to get rid of Torres twice!

    WC team:
    Vorm (Ruddy)
Bosingwa Enrique Simpson (De Laet Brown)
    Silva Mata Brunt Cabaye (Dyer)
    RVP (C) Rooney (VC) Suarez
ATM i have Dzeko in for RVP, and am wondering if i am better off changing Dzeko > RVP (later on, milking the price) or one of Cabaye or Brunt > Walcott, Thoughts?

Chris888, tough call. Dzeko's form says he plays, but RvP's fixtures are very tempting; SWA, Bla, BOL.

I'd probably run with Dzeko, myself, although perhaps you could switch Suarez to RvP?

Yeah it is killing me to be honest.
RVP is a season keeper, though, and that's what is leading me towards him. Whereas Dzeko will sooner or later become a rotation risk and Walcott is a short-term fix for Arsenal fixtures. I think i wanna keep Suarez though

I've probably missed something on this at some point but...

Why does the FFS H2H 2 league only have one gameweek played? I thought we were starting from GW2?

    Cheers

Are you in the same league hillbillypete or one of the other FFS H2H's? I was sure the'y reset them to start on GW2.

There is someone at the bottom of 2 that has a weekly score of more than -100!! Were you playing him?
