Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for” column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

IF he's on pens and IF Blackburn find a bit of form from somewhere, then quite possibly. But right now, it's a serious punt.

      And I love Yakubu.

I think if you need a cheap as striker (and have patience) Yakubu will very much prove to be worth that cost. He still has goals in him.

The Fleet Street mob love Lampard.

Truth is, his penalties and injuries have masked the fact that he is in major decline. His passing has always been below-par, and now he no longer has the engine to be effective enough.

People are rejoicing Lamaprd being dropped because there is a strong feeling that many of the "Golden Generation" should be relinquished. That goes for Lampard, Gerrard, Ferdinand and Terry in particular.

Lampard also comes across as a bit of a smug prick.

In real life terms, Lampard is the most overrated footballer of modern times. Reputation over ability is coming home to roost England wise several years too late. People on here still haven't cottoned on yet, though Fantasy wise he's a viable, overpriced option.

Walcott. He plays attacking in Arsenal and they have very good fixtures.

Young has tough fixtures ahead and I am sure Nani will share fantasy points in Man U.

Mata is new to Premier League and they will play an in-form Man U in GW5.

So stick to Walcott first and decide after GW5!

I'm thinking about the same problem.

Mata is very uncertain at this stage, so I'd pick Walcott.

Then again Arteta could be the black horse, looks like he will go up 0.1 this week and if he does anything against Swansea he could do a mini-Dzeko.

Just got in and I find my main man Baines is injured. However, if those on WC rejig their teams to take him out then he may just become a bit of a differential dare I say. He's a bit like Bent: a reasonably viable captaincy option, but most importantly you need to have him for the entire season to reap the full benefit. Financially, he's not a player who you can chop and change.

I would say the complete opposite regarding having him for the entire season. Everton seem to always start slow for some reason, and looking at fixtures you would be hard pushed to get a return on your investment from him in the opening 10 fixtures.

I agree with you as I'm sure most on here do, but from a financial perspective it's not easy to use those free transfers on getting him in, out, in, out, shake it all about. In short, he's a long term option and with Arteta gone, his Fantasy potential is very good.

    WC Team:
    Given (Vorm)
Bosingwa, Kompany, Hughes or Simpson (De Laet)
    Nasri, Young, Brunt, Cabaye, (Dyer)
    Rooney, Suarez, Dzeko (C)

0.3 in bank - Do i get in Jarvis or keep Brunt and Cabaye who have juicy fixtures like Jarvis (but not Jarvis form I admit)?

getting rid of Brunt would be silly imo... nor, swa, FUL, sun, WOL is way to good of a fixture run for someone so important to the team, he should be getting BP's flowing out his arse...

personally, if i wanted into wolves' team, im taking a defender, they're solid at the back...

and with Hughes, im guessing you mean A Hughes? Home against BLA? You seriously want a friendlier fixture than that?

Going on current form, the only game I would be confident of something from Brunt would be the next one. After that, WBA are up against some pretty mean defences and I don't see many goals. Jarvis/O'Hara/Hunt from Wolves are better shouts imo.

thats how i roll, although so far this season its bitten me firmly in the arse, home defence doesnt seem to be what it used 2!

And @Rasping, WBA have seemed positive going forward in the first 2 GW's (didnt see last weeks), you not think Brunt, out of all the WBA team, is the most likely to shine? The only one out of his run i see limited results is WOL, just due to Mick planting a wall in front of his goal...

Right, I am going to have to mull over that last defensive spot, Simpson v Hughes. On Hughes atm.

Also thinking of a late change to bring Walcott in for Young and get Young back for Norwich in GW7? Will at least wait till after england game.

He could be the one to shine, Aces. But as I said, I don't see many goals in any of the upcoming West Brom games and therefore I don't think he's a very good choice.

You could do with some Aston Villa defensive coverage especially with McLeish as manager.

Right then, boys and girls, a quick opinion on my team if you would... ive played my WC as, amazingly/retardedly i had no city/utd players and was generaly disgusted with my team, so any changes you can think of, throw them down and they could be done. would be much appreciated!

    Vorm, Krul
R Johnson, De Laet, Kompany, Mertesacker, Hutton
    Brunt, Nani, Arteta, Taarbat, Nasri
    Hernandez, Aguero, Lita

Obv Lita is weak sauce and could be upgraded but is there anyway i can do that without spazing out? GW4 is gunna be Vorm, DL, Hutton & Lita on bench...

so yeah, would love opinions as im changing my mind every few fecking seconds at the moment... (Nani, Aguero, Taarbat all tempted to move)

    thanks!

        Suggest away mate.

Mertesacker/Enrique - im thinking in the next few games, ARS are more likely to be keeping cleans than Liverpool? GW6 is the only CS i can foresee LIV keeping, home to WOL, whereas Arsenal have SWA at home, BLA away, home to Bolton, then 2 weeks later home to SUN.

Taarbat/Hunt - NEW, wol, AVL, ful, BLA seems too good to me to pass on someone who is the monopoly on QPR set pieces? I like Hunt but cant see a way to get him in unless i trade down from Nani and upgrade Lita, which brings me on to...

Lita/Sturridge - if you can find me 2m in equity from my team, id love to trade up, otherwise its a no-go. Ideally, i'd like to trade up to Best, but cant really see where i can steal 0.5m from...

you can downgrade r johnson to berra/stearman for the 0.5 (I would have said ward but he's now 0.6). I'm guessing you'll be playing only 3 defenders most of the time with that team. You already have kompany, mertersacker and hutton who'll be good for most gws so don't need 5million spent on johnson.

I wouldn't have any West Brom players in my team, never mind two, is long even fit? Worth remembering that Hodgson doesn't know how to win away matches. I'd be tempted to trade them for Cleveley and Sturridge if poss.

Also you have no Liverpool coverage, is that because you're an Everon fan?

Surely week 5 is the time to be captaining Mr Hibbert? Get him now!

It's a brave man that goes without Rooney now with the form he's in, though I do think that Hernandez and Adebayor will prove to be excellent value this season. Suarez has been underpriced if you ask me and Enrique is also a bargain as he was priced whilst at Newcastle, both essential and season keepers if you ask me.

Liverpools next few aren't the best but they look a solid outfit to me this season and are more than capable of picking up good results at Stoke and Spurs. Thinking long term you will defo need Liverpool players and they will only get more expensive the longer you leave it.

    Hennessy (or Given)
    Enrique Kompany Mertesacker(Brown, Simpson)
    Taarabt Nasri Walcott Young (Dyer)
    Long Suarez Dzeko

also with 0.6m in the bank. I seem to be thinking i may have to much money in the mids compared to else where. Any suggestions in general?
