Back after a one-week hiatus due to the international break, we renew our acquaintance with the Premier League fixture list and attempt to slice out the juicy fruit from the bruised flesh. In other words, here’s our weekly rundown of those with favourable fixtures and ripe for investment.

The Highs

Arsenal
An upcoming run of promising-looking showdowns could not have come at a better time. Arsene Wenger has made some significant moves in the transfer market and, with Gervinho and Alex Song returning from suspension after this weekend, there is a potential new start looming for the Gunners following their Old Trafford drubbing.

On paper, no other side can compete with the attacking potential on offer over the next six Gameweeks – a run that has Arsenal facing Swansea, Bolton, Sunderland and Stoke all at home, will surely provide handsome returns if they can find a semblance of form. Even trips to Blackburn and local rivals Spurs offer the opportunity for goals.

The Arsenal defence will enjoy a facelift over the coming weeks with the arrival of Andre Santos and, in particular, Per Mertesacker. They could be in line for immediate starts with Arsenal facing up against opposition which appear to give them the perfect platform to start building a clean sheet tally.

West Brom
The Baggies face three away trips in the next four but they are all against teams which should give Roy Hodgson’s side opportunities for goals and results. Trips to Norwich, Swansea and Sunderland should bear some fruit, while a home clash with Fulham in Gameweek six will also be approached with confidence. The fitness of both Shane Lone and Peter Odemwingie is crucial, however – both are currently going into this weekend as injury doubts.

Defensively the Baggies are never a team to tempt investment but, over the next set of Gameweeks, their opportunity for returns at the back looks very strong – easily the healthiest within the low-to-mid price bracket, making Jonas Olsson a potential transfer target.

Wolves
Mick McCarthy’s side have confidence flowing through the camp and a short-term fixture list to keep the engine running. Three Molineux matches in the next four offer the opportunity for the likes of Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher to continue their form, while Jamie O’Hara and Stephen Hunt will be looking to come out of their shell with some first returns of the season.

With encouraging defensive displays already in the back and with McCarthy demonstrating a desire to keep clean sheets with his tactical switch at Villa Park, there appears to be continued potential from the likes of Roger Johnson in the coming weeks.

Also consider…
Newcastle – rock solid in defence so far, the fixture list continues to deliver opponents that could keep the returns coming for the likes of Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson.

Chelsea – three away trips in four, including a stint at Old Trafford, is perhaps a challenging task but Andre Villas-Boas’ side are facing defences which should offer them opportunities with a strong goal return on the cards if Juan Mata can settle.

Fulham – like their West London neighbours, Fulham have fixtures which should give them plenty of scope for boosting the “goals for” column. Home clashes with Blackburn this weekend, together with Craven Cottage meetings with QPR and Everton look particularly favourable.

The Lows

Man United
Don’t get us wrong, United are flying and, in attacking terms, remaining a massive Fantasy force. The main concern is undoubtedly in defensive quarters. While Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are performing superbly, the fixture list continues to deliver them opponents with a significant goal threat. The Old Trafford clash with Norwich in Gameweek 8 may well be the only United cleanie in the coming weeks.

That will, of course, mean Alex Ferguson’s side will be forced to kill games off with their considerable firepower – Wayne Rooney and company won’t have it all their own way against Chelsea, Liverpool and City over the next six but it will be brave Fantasy manager to turn their back on the on-fire striker.

Everton
Two attractive home fixtures in the next two Gameweeks will ease Everton into the post-Arteta era but, following that, things become decidedly sticky for the Toffees. Games against City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United all lie in wait from Gameweeks 6-10, posing potential problems at both ends of the field. If Leighton Baines’ hamstring keeps him out of the next two, it’s doubtful that he’ll find his way into many Fantasy lineups until that particular storm has passed.

Blackburn
Defensively, Blackburn are in for a torrid time with the new partnership of Scott Dann and Chris Samba set for a series of challenges early on. Certainly, over the next four Gameweeks, it’s difficult to see Steve Kean’s side keeping a shut-out and that will mean that the attacking players will have to come to the fore if Rovers are to earn results. Given the performances so far, that seems doubtful.

Be wary of…
Stoke – Liverpool, United and Arsenal are all on the radar in the next six Gameweeks, handing new boys Peter Crouch and Cameron Jerome a challenging start to their new life in the Potteries. Clean sheets look hard to come by, too.

Wigan – a journey to City this weekend is just the start of three away trips in four, split by a home clash with Spurs in Gameweek six. While Franco Di Santo has form and Hugo Rodallega and Victor Moses have shown intent, the Latics may struggle to make an impression in the coming weeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Right! I have decided there is no way to fit RvP into my team without swapping Rooney. And i would lose value if i swapped so goodbye RvP! i'm sure i'll regret this decision...

    Krul - Vorm
    Enrique Woodgate Warnock Santon Ward
Walcott Nasri Cabaye Mata - Dyer
    Suarez Rooney Adebayor

You have a great team. 2 expensive players will probably do better than a very expensive player like RVP and a average priced player.

Cheers, i agree. I think you should only ever have either Rooney or RvP, not both, not none.. The money saved will get better returns in the midfielders and you still have an uber striker for captaincy 🙂

Big Oak, I have the same dilemma with Cahill, but I'm keeping him for this next week at least. With Arteta, Beckford, Yakubu gone he may play higher up.

How about Sess to Arteta? Then maybe Jones to Long/Doyle/Fletcher next week if he seems to be a non-starter.

I agree Big Oak, see how Cahill/Baines fare this week to see which one to shift first. Also gives you a chance to see how Adebayor performs as he could be a good alternative to Bent (their fixtures improve from GW8 as well)

oh yeah i forgot about this one, at 0.4 ownership now, his price will definitly rise soon. he can be the steal of the week wol LIV wig ARS new bla, all leaky defences so potential even for the big games.
u know what im thinking about going for it this week, has the ability to gain me some value if he scores a goal or two, a good "expensive" differential/punt.

I would wait with putting your faith in N'Zogbia before he shows some sign of goalthreat. Until then, Brunt or Taarabt would be wiser choices. Alternatively you could switch Smalling for Hutton/Warnock and get Arteta to get some Arsenal-cover, which will might come in handy in the upcoming fixtures. 😉

    2x4m Keepers

    Bos, Enrique + 3x 4m Defenders

    Arteta Young Silva Petrov (Ferg)

    Rooney RVP Dzeco

Looks like a great Attacking force but is it too weak at the back? Alternative is Suarez and Kompany for RVP and upgrade Petrov. What do you think?

You'll hoping your attack score big every week. The 5 £4M def/gk are likely to score 2-3pts each week, and score big once in a while.

Generallly, you need a solid GK, 2 big DF, 2-3 big MD and 2 big ST.

Yes, for me. However, Anderson's point looks like the way to go for you.

For instance, Arsenal conceded 8 and their defenders scored -2, doesn't seem right to me but that's how the points work I guess.

OK my first wc RMT - all comments welcome.

    Kenny Vorm

Mertesacker Bosingwa Enrique (De Laet Simpson)

Arteta Silva (Brunt Jarvis Taarabt - best 2 depending on fixs)

    Suarez Rooney Dzeko

    - Goalies rotate well.
    - The 2 cheap defenders rotate well too in case of needing cover in that area.
    - Midfield has three mid priced players where I can rotate and pick the best 2 depending on fixtures.
    - I will always play the three big strikers. So not concerned with rotation on Dzeko given I have options (albeit) cheap ones on the bench, and he is just too cheap to ignore.
    - Key concern is lack of Chelsea coverage up top.

As I say all comments welcome.

Could be a safer option as Mertesaker is untested. Just tempted by his goal threat at set pieces and Arsenals fixtures. It might come to the flip of a coin.

I'm fiddling around with my Wildcard at the moment, and keep looking at some of the newest signings. How well do you guys think players like Santon, Adebayor, Arteta or Ruiz will fare in the next couple of days. Will they start this weekend already? Will there be goals? Especially interested if Santon will be a more fruitful player then S. Taylor and R. Taylor for Newcastle. I read that he didn't score much in Inter, but is there some sort of attacking threat in him?

Id say krul tbh... Wouldnt be a fan of paddy kenny. He must be the most out of shape player in the league, looks more at home propping up the bar with a pint of guiness in one hand and a kebab in the other! Krul had started well & seems to have a solid defence in front of him tnis yr too...

Anyone going for a front 7 of...

    Young/theo/silva/mata
    Suarez/dzeko/ade

Affordable and still allows a passable defence... Dontthink i have the nads to go in without RVP & Rooney though. Still, there looks to be a hell of a lot of attacking in them thar players!

I've tried the Suarez/Ade/Dzeko combo before and i could only afford 3 big midfielders with 2 cheap ones to go with 3 good defenders and 2 4.0's.

I have seen your RMT's though, and your defence is always to the stronger end. Nothing wrong with that but there are other approaches.

to be fair I am just playing devils advocate, I would never pick that team either.

        Here you go. Passable, no?

        Vorm
        Bosingwa/staylor/briggs
        Mata/young/theo/silva
        Suarez/ade/dzeko

          berra to de laet,
          Olsson to a 5.0m defender.

Dyer to ferguson, its the only way this will work, (which is also the reason why it wont)

And rudd to Krul or Kenny.

You only need 3 defenders, so the other two have to be dirt cheap to play the odd game.

*alternatively walcott to arteta, and then get yourself something decent at the back

Norwichs fixs rotate perfectly with swansea though... Hence rudd instead of a better keeper. Granted they may not keep cs but should be good for save pts at a minimum. So basically would have swa/nor home fixs as far as gw12 - check the ticker, they are quite allriht

In that case, Ruddy is only suspended for two gameweeks. If possibly play vorm against Arsenal and avoid switching your keepers in a couple of weeks

An improvement may be olsson>delaet, berra>enrique... Which leaves below.... Getting closer!

              Bos/enrique/taylor
              Mata/silva/theo/young
              Ade/dzeko/suarez

Yeah... Am very tempted by mata>ohara to upgrade defensively & bench. Have a feeling ohara is close to clocking up a cricket score judging by the amount of goal attempts he is getting the more withdrawn role isnt affecting him too much. No better match tondo it in than vs his old club tjis weekend too...

Hmm. Tried it out but finished it off with Dyer, Bos, Enrique, 3x4 defenders, Krul and Vorm. Bit too weak for my liking. Plus unlike RVP and Rooney it's hard to captain any of that lot.

but you would never have to play more than 3 defenders, and if you get ferguson. (I dont advocate that but look at the team) then you can have a 4.5 defender too, or 3*5m defenders.

That lets you play 3-4-3 week in week out

I think you have good captain choices. Ones who could become big differentials. All three strikers will finish the season with a good goal total. Young, Theo and Silva are also good options.

I would downgrade Mata for 2 Gw's and upgrade the defence. Then you can get Mata in 2 GW's for Theo or Silva.

Pretty pleased with this team but open to ideas. Most i've had since week two wildcard.

    Given Vorm

    Shawcross Smalling Bosingwa Enrique Simpson

    Jarvis Moses Cabaye Adam Silva

    Suarez Rooney Dzeko

Only major concern is over doing the Liverpool coverage but can only afford to change Adam but not sure who to?

Yeah that's the only option I could see too but injuries and inconsistency are a concern. With Adam you get set pieces at least until Gerrard is back. Really very little in the way of
value in midfielders between £6.5m and about £9.0m
